The separate technologies which provide the telephone, the computer and the television are now CONVERGING in ways which increase the educational applications of each.

CONVERGENCE becomes possible when the different technologies share systems for encoding data.

DIGITILISATION entails the conversion of information to manipulable and transferable bits.

Hogan and Norton presented a paper at the 5th IOC Congress on Sport Science in Sydney, November 1999. They indicated that:

"In the period 1980-96 Australia won 25 gold and 115 total Olympic medals. This equates to $37 million per gold medal or $8 million per any medal. There was also a linear relationship between money spent and total medals won (r=0.96).

[On the basis of] the cost per medal and the expenditure towards Sydney, we estimate the gold medal count will be 14 +/-1 and the total medal count will be 61 +/-4."

1. Your development is too important to leave to chance.

2. ICT for phyiscal education teachers is an essential aspect of continuous professional development.

3. A range of support is needed within and outside school.

4. We need a quality assured network of support for busy people!
