INFORMATION ON 64 BIT AND 32 BIT IPM AND IFM SOFTWARE

For IPM v. 8.0 and IFM v.4.0 there will be two separate products suites the client can choose to purchase

• IPM v. 8.0 and IFM v.4.0 - 32 Bit Applications • IPM v. 8.0 and IFM v.4.0 - 64 Bit Applications

The 32 and 64 bit products versions have separate licences.

BENEFITS OF 64 BIT APPLICATIONS: • A Windows 64 Bit operating system can run both 32 Bit or 64 Bit applications. • A single 32 Bit application can use up to a maximum of 2 GBytes of RAM memory. • A single 64 Bit application can use up to a maximum of 8 TBytes of RAM memory. • Further Windows 7 64 Bit manages more efficiently the use of the processors

SUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEMS - IPM AND IFM - 64 BIT APPLICATIONS The IPM suite v.8.0 and IFM v.4.0, 64 Bit applications are supported to run on the following operating systems:‐

• Windows 7 (64 bit) • Windows Vista (64 bit) • Windows 2008 Server (64 bit)

LICENSING The IPM and IFM 32 Bit software licence will only allow the 32 Bit applications to be used, even when the Windows operating system is 64 Bit.

Clients with 64 Bit IPM and IFM licences will be able to use the 64 Bit or 32 bit software. The number of concurrent licenses is limited by the number of 64 bit licenses under the agreement.

UPGRADE FROM 32 BIT TO 64 BIT Clients with existing maintained IPM and IFM licenses will receive IPM 8.0 - 32Bit as the upgrade and this will continue to be supported by Petex as 32 Bit applications with a long term engineering developments as per all Petex products.

There is a economical upgrade from existing IPM and IFM clients with the 32 bit products that wish to upgrade their licenses to 64 Bit products. Please contact Petex for a quotation

PURCHASING NEW OR ADDITIONAL LICENCES Clients can purchase new licences or additional licences. There is the option to purchase 32 Bit or 64 Bit products. The price list of the 32 Bit and 64 Bit is the standard Petex volume structure meaning that the unit price of each additional licence added to the same agreement for a product is on a descending unit price scale.

SHOULD A CLIENT UPGRADE TO 64 BIT IPM AND IFM APPLICATIONS? This is a technical decision which has to be addressed on the user needs and the type of work and models they are running. Petex can give some guidance, however the benefits do need to assessed by the users directly. Points to consider are:

• PC and Server type and hardware specification • The Windows Operating System being supported on the user PC or Server • The size of model and current resources that model take - particularly look at the

memory • If running a reservoir simulation model with more than 350,000 active grid blocks and the

user wishes to bring this model into REVEAL they will need a 64 Bit application.
