Epson UltraChrome® K3 inks provide an extremely wide gamut, making accurate color rendition possible with their unique, high-density pigments. Now, with the addition of newly formulated vivid magenta and vivid light magenta inks, they offer an even broader color gamut with enhanced expression ranges to meet the highest professional expectations.

Precise Color Control

The same images at different resolutions can be printed almost identically thanks to precise color control. Color gradation at high saturation is also improved. This enhanced level of control allows precise reproduction even of challenging skin tones with the beauty and fidelity that artists demand.

Excellent Lightfastness and Water Resistance

The excellent lightfastness of Epson UltraChrome K3 inks prevents fading and discoloration for 85 years* for color and over 200 years* for black-and-white prints (when mounted behind glass). In addition, the specially formulated, water-insoluble, resin-encapsulated pigments used in the inks are extremely moisture resistant.

Consistent Appearance under Any Light

Epson resolved the longstanding major challenge of inkjet printer use: variations in color appearance under different lighting conditions. Epson UltraCh-rome K3 inks with a balanced formulation of three shades of black provide exceptionally consistent color aappearance under any light source.

In color printing, color information (RGB or CMYK) is converted into information on which inks to blend in which amounts. This conversion determines image quality. The extremely complex conversion calculations require a massive reference table of color data called a Look-Up Table (LUT). Epson

In addition to maximizing use of the broad color gamut and providing the greatest fidelity to the original image, Epson LUT technology offers three other major benefits that improve print quality: smoother gradation, finer grain, and superior color consistency.

Smooth Color GradationPrinting photographs requires smooth transition from color to color, with subtle expression of shades. The smoothness of these gradations is a major factor determining image quality. Epson LUT technology optimizes the gamut and provides smooth, natural color gradations from the deepest shadows to the lightest highlights.

Virtually No GraininessGraininess was especially noticeable in skin tones in portraits or commercial photographs. But that is no longer a problem, since Epson LUT technology reduces graininess by optimizing the amounts of inks to blend. Virtually no graininess is perceived even up close.

Superior Color ConsistencyEpson LUT technology solves the problem of light effects on color consistency. The prints appear identical under any light source.

Deeper Shadows, Lighter Highlights

The lightest black ink in the Epson UltraChrome® K3 Ink color palette is the key to extremely smooth black-and-white tonal gradations, from the deepest shadows to the lightest highlights, resulting in excellent volume perception.

Intelligent Head Alignment and Maintenance Sensors

A built-in multisensor system ensures precise head alignment for accurate ink droplet delivery. The system uses a white LED and two sensors to scan printer utility calibration test patterns so that the print head is always properly aligned with the media. When the sensors detect nozzle-clogging anomalies in the test pattern, the cleaning function is automati-cally activated to maintain head nozzles in optimum condition.

Epson ColorBase is color calibration software for true color accuracy. The software receives informa-tion from the color gauge and forwards it to the printer driver or Raster Image Processor (RIP) software, which uses the information to give abso-lutely accurate color within the range set for the printer.
