ABOUT THE BYWAY
The Green Mountain Byway is part of the National Scenic By-ways Program, whose mission is to recognize, preserve and enhance selected scenic roads throughout the United States. While Route 100 is the official route, the entire region is a part of a scenic corridor. We encour-age you to explore the area’s back roads on foot, bicycle, car or other means of transport.
THE GREEN MOUNTAIN STATE
Vermont not only takes its nickname, “The Green Mountain State”, from the surrounding mountains, it is named af-ter them. The French words Vert and Mont are literally translated as Green Mountain.
