INTRODUCTION:PH.D.PROGRAMME

Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), hereafter the

University,awardsthedegreeofDoctorofPhilosophy(Ph.D.)toacandidatewho

has successfully completed the prescribed Programme of Research. The

ProgrammeofResearchwiththegoverningrulesandregulationsareformulated

bytheAcademicCounciloftheUniversity.TheAcademicCounciloftheUniversity

canmodifyorchangethestructure,thegoverningrulesandregulationsfromtime

totime.Theregulationsformulatedandpresentedinthisdocumentarecompliant

with the regulatory guidelines issuedbyUGC, 2016.A candidate to be awarded

thePh.D.degreehas to followall theprocessesandproceduresas laiddown in

the guidelines to submit a thesis embodying the findings of his/ her research

carried out under this programme. The thesis should, in the opinion of the

examiners appointed by the University, make an original contribution of high

qualitytotheadvancementofknowledgeasjudgedbytheexpertsintherelevant

area.AcandidatebecomeseligiblefortheawardofthePh.D.degreeafterfulfilling

all the academic requirements prescribed by the Academic Council of the

University.TheawardshallbemadeupontherecommendationoftheAcademic

Council of the University and its approval by the Board ofManagement of the

University.ThePh.D.degreeshallbeawarded in the theme/subjectareaof the

research in which registration is made by the candidate and subsequently

recordedandapprovedbytheUniversity.

DEGREEOFDOCTOROFPHILOSOPHY(PH.D.)

1. SHORTTITLEANDCOMMENCEMENT

TheseRegulationsmaybecalledtheRegulationsfortheDegreeofDoctorofPhilosophy(Ph.D.) fromthe

ChinmayaVishwavidyapeeth(CVV),Ernakulam.Theseregulationsshallcomeintoforcewitheffectfromthe

academic year 2019.The degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) is an academic degree awarded to a

candidatewhohas successfully completed theprescribedprogrammeof researchwithall its constituent

conditions.

2. VISIONFORRESEARCHINCVV

CVVbringsavisionofhighqualityresearchthatintegratesIndictraditionsofknowledgeandpracticewith

thecuttingedgemodernandemergingsystemsofthoughtandapplication.

3. RESEARCHANDPUBLICATIONSCOUNCIL(RPC)

TheResearchandPublicationsCommittee(RPC)ofCVV,dulyconstitutedbytheVice-Chancellorwillsteer

andadministerthePhDprogramatCVV.Itshallbecompetenttoreviewandrecommendchangestothe

regulationstotheAcademicCouncil.

4. ELIGIBILITYCRITERIAFORADMISSIONTOPH.D.PROGRAM

AcandidateseekingadmissiontothePh.D.programmeshallsatisfyanyoneofthefollowingeligibility

requirements

1. Master's degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the

corresponding statutory regulatorybody,with at least 60%marks in aggregateor its equivalent

grade'B'intheUGC7-pointscale(oranequivalentgradeinapointscalewherevergradingsystem

is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an

Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognised or authorised by an

authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory

authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and

standardsofeducationalinstitutions.

Arelaxationof5%ofmarks,oranequivalentrelaxationofgrade,maybeallowedforthosebelongingto

SC/ST/OBC(non-creamylayer)/DifferentlyabledandothercategoriesofcandidatesasadvisedbytheUGC

andacceptedbyAcademicCouncilofCVVfromtimetotime,orforthosewhohadobtainedtheirMaster's

degreeprior to19thSeptember,1991.Theeligibilityminimumof55%(oranequivalentgrade inapoint

scalewherevergradingsystemisfollowed)andtherelaxationof5%tothecategoriesmentionedaboveare

permissiblebasedonlyonthequalifyingmarkswithoutincludinganygracemarksawarded.

2. CandidateswhohavesuccessfullycompletedtheM.Phil.Degreewith55%marksoritsequivalent

grade'B'intheUGC7-pointscale(oranequivalentgradeinapointscalewherevergradingsystem

isfollowed),shallbeeligibletotakeadmissiontothePh.D.Degree.Arelaxationof5%ofmarks,

oranequivalent relaxationofgrade,maybeallowed for thosebelonging toSC/ST/differently-

abled categories. Necessary course/s exemptions which are part of the coursework shall be

permittedwithdueconsideration.

CandidatespossessingaDegreeconsideredequivalenttoM.Phil.DegreeofanIndianInstitution,orfroma

ForeignEducationalInstitutionaccreditedbyanAssessmentandAccreditationAgencywhichisapproved,

recognizedorauthorizedbyanauthority,establishedor incorporatedundera lawin itshomecountryor

anyotherstatutoryauthority in thatcountry for thepurposeofassessing,accreditingorassuringquality

andstandardsofeducationalinstitutions,shallbeeligibleforadmissiontoPh.D.programme.

3. Master'sdegreeorequivalentinanysubjectwith60%marksplusminimumofthreeyearsofwork

experience in the area of interdisciplinary research in which admission is being sought.

Interdisciplinaryresearchinvolvestwoormoreacademic,literary,scientific,orartisticdisciplines.

Thecandidatemustdemonstrateevidenceofhis/herrelevantexperienceininterdisciplinaryarea

ofresearch.

4. International candidates (NRIs, Foreign Nationals and PIOs who have obtainedMaster's degree

fromforeignuniversities),whosepost-secondaryeducationisnotinEnglisharerequiredtoqualify

IELTSorequivalentEnglishlanguageexamwith6.5scoreoranequivalenttestforEnglishlanguage

proficiency.Similarly,candidatesseekingadmission inother Indian languages,proficiency inthat

languagewillbeassessedbysuitableinternaltestconductedbyCVV.

5. Any other candidate, who by virtue of publications or work experience prove to the Academic

CouncilofCVV,thathe/shepossessesequivalentacademicqualificationstothecriteriamentioned

above.

5. CATEGORIESOFPH.D.STUDENTS

TheUniversityadmitsPh.D.studentsunderthefollowingcategories:

1. FULLTIME

Full-timeResearchScholarsarethosewhowillbeabletobenormallyresidentfulltimefortheir

researchintheUniversitycampus/reporttothecampusonadailybasis.

2. PART-TIME

Astudentinthiscategoryisaprofessionallyemployedperson,whopursuesthePh.D.Programme

whilecontinuingthedutiesofhis/herservice.

Inallcasesofdisputesregardingfellowshipsandfinancialconditions,thematterwillbereferredtoRPC

andtheViceChancellor,withtheadviceoftheRPC,willbethefinaldecidingauthorityforanychangesin

processandoutcomeoncasetocasebasis.

3. CHANGEINSTUDENTCATEGORIESFROMPARTTIMEPHDTOFULLTIMEPHD

ANDVICEVERSA

TheViceChancellor,upontherecommendationoftheResearchsupervisorofthecandidate,iscompetent

toapprovechangeofastudentfromonecategorytoanother.Suchchangeshallbereportedtothe

AcademicCouncil.

6. ADMISSIONPROCEDURE

1. ADMISSIONTOTHEPH.D.

Admissionsshallbeonapplicationmadeonyear-roundbasis. Forallcategoryofstudents,admissionwill

begrantedonthebasisofPh.D.AdmissiontestofCVV(calledasCVV-PAT)followedbyapanelinterview,

held normally twice in a year, during the months of October and March every year, duly notified in

advance.

2. TWO-STAGEADMISSIONPROCESS

a. Stage One: AWritten admission Test (CVV-PAT)will be conductedwith a qualifying cut-off

marks as prescribed. The admission test shall be conducted at CVV and relevant details

notifiedinadvance.

b. StageTwo:ApanelinterviewshallbeorganisedbytheUniversity,inwhichthecandidateswillberequiredtodiscusstheirresearchinterest/areaandwillbeassessedfortheirsuitabilityby

a panel duly constituted by the RPC.

3. EXEMPTIONSINTHETWOSTAGEPROCESS

Students who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF/ UGC-CSIR NET /SLET/ GATE/ teacher fellowship

holder or have passed M.Phil. or PhD programs of a recognised University shall be exempted from

appearingforCVV-PAT.

4. OVERSEESAPPLICANTS

Fortheapplicantsfromoverseas,atime-boundonlineproctoredentrancetestorapersonalinterviewshall

bearranged.

5. NOTIFICATIONS

Admission notification of Ph.D. program, shall be displayed in the institutional website and through

advertisementsinatleasttwo(2)nationalnewspapers,includingallrelevantinformationforthebenefitof

thecandidates.

6. RESERVATIONPOLICY

AdmissiontoPhDprograms,shalladheretotheapplicablenationalregulationsincludingtheannualfees,

asapplicableforthereservedcategories.

7. ADMISSIONREGISTRATION

1. AcandidateshallberecommendedbytheResearchandPublicationCommitteeforadmissiononthe

basisofthefollowing:

a. IndividualPerformanceinthewrittentestandinterview

b. Availabilityofanapprovedresearchsupervisor,suitableforthetopicinquestion.

2. Aftersubmissionandverificationofalleligibilitydocumentsandpaymentoftheprescribedfeebythe

duedate,theprovisionaladmissionwouldbeofficiallyconveyedtothecandidate.Thecandidate

wouldberequiredtosubmitaletterofconsentsignedbytheResearchSupervisortotheRPC.The

admissionwillbeconfirmedthereafter.

3. Everyresearchscholarsshallre-registeratthebeginningofeverysemesterforcontinuedstatus.

8. JOINTSUPERVISOR-SHIP

Ifnecessary,basedonawrittenrequestfromtheResearchSupervisor,aJointsupervisormayalsobeappointedbytheProfessorincharge,Ph.D.Program.TheJointsupervisormaybefromwithinthesameFaculty/ School or from a different Faculty/School of the University or from outside the Universityprovidedhe/sheisrecognisedbytheUniversityasaPhDguideafterfollowingthedueprocess.

9. DURATIONOFPROGRAMME

1. Ph.D.programmeshallbeforaminimumdurationofthreeyears, inclusiveofcourseworkanda

maximum of six years including permissible extensions. After the completion of six years, theadmissionwillgetcancelledunlessotherwisedecidedbytheRPC.

2. Women candidates and persons with disability (more than 40% disability) may be allowed arelaxation of two years for Ph.D. in the maximum duration stated above. In addition, womencandidatesmaybeprovidedMaternityLeave/ChildCareLeaveonceintheentiredurationofPh.D.upto240days.ExtensionofmaximumdurationforothercandidatesshallbeatthediscretionoftheRPCandreportedtotheAcademicCouncil.

10. ALLOCATIONOFRESEARCHSUPERVISOR

Onlyfulltimeteachingfacultywillsupervisetheacademicresearchofthecandidate.

ALLOCATIONOFRESEARCHSUPERVISOR

1. Any regular Professor of the University with at least three research publications inrefereedaswellasenlistedjournalsandanyregularAssociate/AssistantProfessoroftheUniversity with a Ph.D. degree and at least two research publications in refereed andenlisted journals (UGC or entrusted/ similar forums) shall be recognised as ResearchSupervisorbytheAcademicCounciloftheUniversity.

2. Exemption:Providedthatinareas/disciplineswherethereisnooronlyalimitednumberofrefereedjournals,theViceChancellormayrelaxtheaboveconditionforrecognitionofapersonasResearchSupervisorwithreasonsrecordedinwriting.SuchexemptionsneedtobecommunicatedtotheAcademiccouncil.

3. TheallocationofResearchSupervisorforaselectedresearchscholarshallbedecidedbytheViceChancellor,uponrecommendationoftheRPC.

4. The following is themaximumnumberofResearchScholars thatcanberegisteredwithoneResearchSupervisorforPh.Datatime.

Professor:8AssociateProfessor:6AssistantProfessor:4

5. In cases,where the facultymemberwho is a recognised supervisorhas less than threeyears to retire as per the Service Rules of CVV, or is serving a contract less than threeyearsasondateofregistration,he/sheshallonlyactasJointsupervisor.

6. Academiciansother than theeligibleRegular full-time facultymemberof theUniversityare not permitted to serve as Ph.D. Supervisors. However, a joint supervisor can beallowed in inter-disciplinary areas from other Departments/ Schools/ Centres of theUniversitywiththeapprovaloftheViceChancellor.

7. In case of research topics which are of inter-disciplinary/ trans disciplinary in nature,where the RPC recommends that the expertise in the Faculty has to be supplementedfromoutside,he/shemayappoint,withtheapprovaloftheViceChancellor,aResearchSupervisor fromtheFaculty itself,whoshallbeknownastheJointResearchSupervisor,

and/or a Joint Supervisor from outside the Faculty/ University on such terms andconditions as may be specified and agreed upon by the consentingInstitutions/Universities.

8. Theprocedureforinclusionofajointsupervisorandtheapplicationisgivenassimilartothatoftheresearchsupervisor.

9. ThequalificationofaJointsupervisorwillbethesameasthatoftheResearchSupervisorexcept that the person may be from within CVV or outside CVV, who is a recognisedResearch Joint Supervisor of CVV. Joint supervisor may be included for supervising ascholar’s researchonlyafterconsideringthenumberofscholarsworkingunderher/himand the limitsdefinedaccording to thedesignation. Inaddition to thedefined limitsonthe number of Ph.D. scholars that can be supervised by them, a Professor can jointlysupervise3,anAssociateProfessorcanjointlysupervise2andanAssistantProfessorcanjointlysupervise2Ph.D.scholars.Onanygiventime,externalrecognisedResearchJointsupervisorcansuperviseonly2Ph.D.Scholars.

COLLABORATIONWITHOTHERINSTITUTION

CVV may collaborate with reputed educational Institutions and Research Organisations in India orabroad,whicharereferredtoastheCollaborativeResearchCentres(CRC).Thecandidatesworkinginsuch Institutions can take admission to CVV Ph.D. Programme after the due admission process.Researchers, who are working in such institutions/ centres and fulfil the eligibility norms of theUniversity,mayberecognisedasResearchJointSupervisorsofCVV.

11. PH.D.COURSEWORK

1. A course work of maximum 16 credits is a prerequisite for Ph.D. preparation. All Ph.D.

ResearchScholarsshallundertakeandcompletethePh.D.CourseWorkof240hoursofbothcontact and self-studywhichmaybe conductedoverone semester or in amodular fashionspread over two semesters. Exemptions, wherever applicable are specified in the sectionelsewhere.

2. Thecandidateswilltake4papersintheircoursework.a. A four creditpaperon theoretical andapplication frameworks in IndianKnowledge

Traditions(IKT),Thiswillbemandatoryforallscholars,includingpart-timescholarsb. A four credit paper assigned to one course on ResearchMethodology which shall

coverareassuchasquantitativemethods,qualitativeandtextualresearchmethods,computerapplicationsandresearchethics.

c. A four credit advanced seminar course in the candidate’s areas of research andspecialisationwillbethethirdmandatoryresearchcoursework.

d. ThecandidatewillneedtotakeanadditionalcourseorasetofcoursesforatotalofthreetofourcreditsfromanyofthecoreorminorcoursestaughtinCVV.

3. The Course Work shall be conducted in one of the constituent School of the University.However,specialpermissionmaybegrantedbytheRPContherecommendationoftheDeanof the Faculty, to conduct only a part of theCourseWorkon any specialised topic in otherschools,orahostinguniversity,whereacourseorcoursescanbehosted.

4. RPC may decide exemptions and/or additional course requirements and communicate thesameonacasetocasebasistothecandidates,supervisorsandtheDean.

5. ThePh.D.scholarhastoobtainaminimumof55%ofmarksinthecourseworkinordertobeeligibletocontinueintheprogramme.

6. Inexceptionalcases,whereaResearchScholarfailstofulfilattendancerequirementof75%orfails in thepre-Ph.D.coursework,he/sheshallapply foranextension forcompletionof theCourseWorkinaprescribedformat.TheDeanofthatFacultyconcernedmayaccordapprovalontherecommendationoftheResearchSupervisorforanotherexaminationtobeheldafterappropriatedurationofnotmoreoneyear.SuchcandidateswillberequiredtopayadditionalexaminationfeesaspertherulesoftheUniversity.

7. Providedthattheparttimestudentsmaybepermittedtoattendcourseworkclassesinaday/twoinaweekorholidaysbyarrangementtosuittheirworksphere.SpecialarrangementstofacilitatetheircourseworkshallbenotifiedbytheProfessorinChargeofPhDprograms,whoisthememberofRPC.

8. The admission of a Research Scholar, who fails to complete the CourseWork despite oneadditionalattemptintheextendedperiod,shallbecancelled.

EXEMPTIONFROMPH.D.COURSEWORK

1. ThefollowingcategoriesofstudentsareexemptedfromCourseWork:a. ThosewhohavepassedthecourseworkofM.Phil.programmewithatleastB+grade

or equivalent percentage of marks and have also studied and passed a paper onResearchMethodologyshallbeexemptedfromresearchmethodologypaper.

b. ThosewhohavecompletedPhDorThosewhohavepassedPh.D.CourseWorkfromarecognisedUniversitysubjecttothesubmissionofthefollowingdocumentstoCVV:

1. CompletioncertificateoftheCourseWorkattended2. Transcripts3. NoobjectioncertificatefromtheUniversity,fromwhichthescholar

isseekingatransfertoCVV.2. These scholars, however, will have to mandatorily take the 4 credit course on Indian

KnowledgeTraditions3. A Research Scholar shall be required to attend a minimum of 75% of the total lectures,

tutorials,othersessionsetc.andsuccessfullycompleteallevaluationofcourse.

12. DOCTORALRESEARCHADVISORYCOMMITTEE(RAC)ANDITSFUNCTIONS

13. DEFENCEOFTHEPROPOSALBEFOREDOCTORALRESEARCHADVISORYCOMMITTEE(RAC)

1. Research Scholars after successful completion of their coursework, shall defend a ResearchProposal,dulyrecommendedbytheResearchSupervisor(s)withintheperiodspecifiedtothedoctoralcommittees.

2. Incaseofnon-submissionoftheResearchProposalwithintheprescribedperiod,theResearchScholarmay apply for extension up to one year, in the prescribed proforma to RPC. If thecandidate fails to submit the Research Proposal even during the extension period, theadmissionshallbecancelled.

3. The Research Scholar shall defend the research proposal to the Doctoral Committee (RAC).ThepresentationsoftheResearchProposalsshallbeorganisedintheUniversityoratoneofitsconstituentschools.ScholarsfromCRCshallalsohavetopresentanddefendtheirresearchproposalstotherelevantdoctoralcommitteeatCVVforapproval.

4. ThecommitteeshallgiveoneofthefollowingrecommendationsafterthepresentationoftheResearchProposal:

a. Approvedb. Approvedwithminormodificationsc. Toberesubmittedandpresentedaftermajormodificationsd. Notapproved

5. In case of (a), the candidatemay start working further on his proposal; In case of (b), thecandidatewillpresentarevisedproposalandconsentobtainedthroughthesupervisor.Incaseofresult(c)amaximumperiodofsixmonthsmaybegrantedbythedoctoralcommitteefortheresubmissionoftheproposal.Incaseof(d)admissionshallbecancelled.

6. ThetitleandtheResearchProposalwillbefinalisedbythedoctoralcommittee.7. The recommendationsof thedoctoral committee shall be forwarded to theHead,Research

14. RESEARCHOVERSIGHTBYTHEDOCTORALCOMMITTEE

1. AresearchscholarshallappearbeforetheDoctoralResearchAdvisoryCommitteeonceinsixmonths tomake a presentation of the progress of his/her work for evaluation and furtherguidance. The six-monthly progress review reports shall be submitted by the doctoralcommitteetoResearchandPublicationCommittee(RPC).ResearchScholarshallberequiredtosubmitahalf-yearlyprogressreportinaspecifiedformatinJanuaryandJulyofeachyear,tillthesubmissionofthefinalthesis.

2. Incases,wheretheprogressoftheresearchscholar isunsatisfactory, theDoctoralResearchAdvisoryCommitteeshallrecordthereasonsforthesameandsuggestcorrectivemeasures.Ifthe research scholar fails to implement these corrective measures, the Doctoral ResearchAdvisoryCommitteemayrecommendtotheUniversitywithspecificreasonsforcancellationoftheregistrationoftheresearchscholar.

3. For thepresentationof six-monthlyprogress, thepresenceof theexternalmembersofRACwill be optional with a consideration given to their availability. In this case, two seniormembers of the Faculty of same or other schools may be invited in place of the externalmembers.

4. Inallcasesofgrievances, theResearchScholarmayappeal totheDean.Thedecisionof theDeaninthisregardshallbefinal.

PRE-SUBMISSIONPRESENTATIONOncompletionoftheresearchwork,afterensuringthatatleasttwoyearshavebeencompletedfromthedateof registration, thePh.D. Scholar shall submit to thedoctoral researchadvisory committee,convened by the supervisor, a synopsis of the research, including bibliography. If the Committee issatisfied about the quality of thework and finds it suitable for submission as a Ph.D. thesis, itmayadvisethestudenttoprepareasynopsisandsubmit6hardcopiesandasoftcopyinPDFformattotheResearchandPublicationCommittee(RPC).Ontheotherhand, if thecommittee isnotsatisfiedwiththe quality of work done, it may recommend revision of the work on specific lines and direct thescholartorepeatthepresentationafteraspecifiedperiod.PUBLICATIONSANDPRESENTATIONOFRESEARCHThe research scholar is mandatorily required to make at least two paper presentations of his/herongoingresearchinconferencesandseminarsandsubmitthecertificatesofthesame.Thecandidateismandatorilyrequiredtopublishatleastonepaperinarefereedpeerreviewedjournal.Thereceiptofsubmission/and/ortheauthorreprintsaswellaspaperpresentationcertificatesneedtobesubmittedalongwiththethesis.TheResearch Scholar,whose thesis is approved for submission, shall submit six set of copies of thesynopsis and thesis to theResearchandPublicationCommittee throughResearchSupervisor so thatthesewillbesenttotheproposedexaminerswhileobtainingtheiracceptancetoactasexaminers.TheResearchandPublicationCommitteeonreceiptoftheintimationfromtheResearchScholar,shalltakethe necessary steps for the appointment of external examiners and the due completion of theevaluationwiththeapprovaloftheViceChancellor.

15. SUBMISSIONOFTHESIS-PROCEDURES

1. TheResearchScholarshallnormallyberequiredtosubmittheThesiswithinthreemonthsof

the date of presentation in which the draft synopsis was approved by doctoral researchadvisory committee. An extension of another three months may be given by the ViceChancellor on a formal application from the scholar recommended by the ResearchSupervisor. Re-registration for the part time candidates, though not entertained may berecommended for those who had lapse of maximum duration of the programme. Theapplicationfromsuchcandidateswillbescrutinisedonmeritandwillberecommendedfortheapproval/nonapprovalforre-registrationbytheHead,RPCtotheAcademicCouncil.

2. Formatof theThesis: TheThesis shall bewritten in English/Sanskrit/Other languagesas thecasemaybeinthespecifiedformatprescribedbytheRPC.

16. EVALUATIONOFTHETHESIS

1. TheResearchSupervisorshallsubmitapanelofeightexaminersalongwiththeirCurriculumVitae(CV)intheareaofresearchtotheHeadofRPCthroughthedoctoraladvisorycommitteewhile forwarding the copies of the synopsis and thesis to the University. The panel mustincludeatleast50%examinersfromoutsidetheStateorabroad.ThereshallbenoexaminerfromthesameorganisationandcityasthatoftheResearchScholar.Head,RPCmaytoincludeadditionalname(s)inthepanelofexaminers.

2. TheViceChancellorupontherecommendationofHead,RPCwillappointtwoexaminersfromthe panel of eight, out of which one will be from outside the State or country where theResearchScholarpursuedtheResearchWork.

3. AllthreeexaminersincludingsupervisorshallsubmitadetailedEvaluationReporttotheHead,RPCintheprescribedformat.Theassessmentreportwillclearlyindicate:

a) TheThesisisrecommendedfortheawardofaPh.D.degree.b) TheThesis is recommended for theawardofaPh.D.degreeafterminor

revision.c) TheThesisistoberevised.d) TheThesisisrejected.e) RecommendedforpublicationYes/No/Aftermodificationf) Questionsthathe/shemayliketheResearchScholartoanswerintheviva-

4. IncaseanexaminerrecommendsrevisionoftheThesis,he/sheshallalsoindicatewhethertherevisionsuggestedrequires:

(i) SubstantialchangesintheThesisbeforeitcanbeacceptedforaPh.D.degree.

(ii) Minor additions or alterations in the Thesis before itsacceptance.

(iii) The examinermay indicate whether he/she would like to re-examinetheThesisaftertherevision

5. Incase,bothexaminersrecommendrejection,theThesisshallberejected.

6. In case oneout of the two examiners rejects the Thesis, itwill be sent to a third examiner(appointedby theRPC) for evaluation. TheThesis shall be acceptedonlywhenat least twoexaminerscategoricallyapproveit.

7. IncaseanexaminerrecommendsmodificationtotheThesis,theResearchScholarshallcarryoutthenecessaryrevision/modificationassuggestedbytheexaminerandresubmitthethesiswithinstipulatedtimebeforethecaseisprocessedfurther.

8. TheResearch Scholar,who is required to re-submit the Thesis,must do sowithin one yearfrom the date of receipt of the examiner's comments by the CVV, unless an extension isspecially given by the Head- RPC. A re-submitted thesis shall be examined by the sameexaminerwhohadrecommendedre-submissionunlesstheexaminerisunableto,ordeclinestodoso.

17. CONDUCTOFVIVAVOCEEXAMINATION

Theviva-voceexaminationshallbecompulsoryforalltheResearchScholarsandshallbeconductedbytheRPCas faraspossiblewithin twomonthsofopening thereports.At leastoneexternalexaminerandmemberofthedoctoralresearchadvisorycommitteeofthecandidatewillneedtobepresentforthepublicdefence.ThisshallbeapublicVivaVoceexaminationconductedattheCVVpremises.

18. AWARDOFDEGREE

1. TheRPCCommitteeshallgivefinalrecommendationsfortheawardofaPh.D.degreeonthebasis of performance in the viva-voce examination and the examiners' reports. TheircommendationswillbesenttotheViceChancellorforapprovalfortheawardofPh.D.degree,inhis/hercapacityasChairpersonoftheAcademicCouncil.

2. The Controller of Examinations shall publish the result and issue provisional degree inaccordancewiththedecisionoftheChairperson,AcademicCouncil

3. Along with the degree, the University shall issue a provisional certificate certifying to theeffectthatthedegreehasbeenawardedinaccordancewiththeprovisionsofUGCMinimumStandardsandProcedureforawardofPh.D.Degree,inforce.

4. Withdrawal of anAwarded Ph.D. Degree: In case there is a complaintofplagiarismoranyotherseriousacademicmisconductandifuponinvestigationbyacommitteedulyappointedbytheViceChancellor,thecomplaintisfoundtobecorrect,thePh.D.degreealreadyawardedshallbewithdrawnwithanorderinwriting.Incaseofanydisputeordiscrepancy,thedecisionoftheViceChancellorshallbefinalandbinding.

19. GUIDELINESONCERTAINCONDITIONS:CHANGEOFSUPERVISORSANDTRANSFEROFSCHOLARS

1. TransferofPh.D.scholarsfromoneresearchsupervisortoanotherresearchsupervisorcanbe

doneonlywhenthereisamutualconsentgivenbyboththeoriginalandnewsupervisor.

2. Inthecase,thechangeofsupervisorortransferofcandidatesisproposedwithouttheconsentof any one of the parties concerned, thematter shall be referred to theHead, RPC,whosedecisionshallbefinal.

3. Thesupervisorswhowishtoavail leave/lien/deputationbeyondaperiodofsixmonthsshallnominateajointsupervisorintheconcernedsubjectforthecandidate(s)registeredwiththemandthefactintimatedtoRPCinadvance.

4. ChangeofUniversityofResearchbyScholars:

5. In case of relocation of a Ph.D. scholar due to valid reasons, the research work can betransferredfromCVVtosomeotherUniversity.ThetransferrequestwillberecommendedbytheRACofthescholartotheCVVRPCforfinalapproval.

6. AspirantsregisteredwithotherUniversitycanbetransferredtoCVVPh.D.programme,onacasetocasebasisonlyifthesourceUniversityhasfollowedthePh.D.AdmissionProcessandPh.D. course work as per the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards andProcedureforAwardofM.PHIL./Ph.D.Degrees)Regulations,2016

20. CONVERSIONOFFULL-TIMEREGISTRATIONINTOPART-TIMEANDVICE-VERSA

Notwithstandinganythingprescribed in theseRules, theUniversitymaypermitconversion fromFull-timeresearchtoPart-timeresearchandvice-versainrespectofcandidatesregistered,forvalidreasonsand subject to satisfying the regulations, rules and conditions in force. Provided that in the case ofconversion from full-time research to part-time research, thewhole period put in by the candidate,willbetakenintoaccountforpurposesofreckoningtheminimumperiodofresearchtobeput inbythecandidateand inthecaseofconversionfrompart-timeresearchtofull-time,2/3oftheresearchperiodputinaspart-timewillbetakenintoaccountforpurposesofreckoningtheminimumperiodofresearchtobeputbythecandidate,tobecomeeligibletosubmitthePh.D.thesis.

21. DISCONTINUATIONFROMPH.D.PROGRAMME

1. DuringthespanofPh.D.programme,thescholars,mayvoluntarilywishtodiscontinuefromthe programme due to some reasons. This requires the recommendation of the Ph.D.ResearchSupervisorandofficialapprovaloftheProfessorinchargeofresearchProgram.

2. ExtensionofRegistration:TheResearchScholarshallordinarilycomplete theresearchwork

withinthenormalperiodasprovidedintherules,butingenuinecasesofhardship,theDeanof the concerned Faculty, on the recommendations of the Research Supervisor, may allowextensionuptooneyearwiththeapprovaloftheProfessorinchargeofresearch.Further,ifat theendoftheoneyearextensiongivenbytheRACaftertheconfirmationofregistration(total5yearsforfulltimeand6yearsforparttimescholar),theResearchScholarisfoundtohave completed a substantial part of the thesis or has published research papers in somerefereed journals, theViceChancelloron the recommendationof theProfessor inchargeofresearch, may allow further extension of one year, after recording detailed and specificreasonsastowhythisspecialextensionisbeingallowed.RegistrationofaResearchScholar,whofailstosubmitthethesiswithinthestipulatedperiodasaboveorwhofailstoapplyforgrantofextension,willautomaticallystandcancelled.Noextensionbeyondthetotalperiodofsixyearsforthefull-timeandsevenyearsforthepart-timescholarsaftertheconfirmationofthe registration shall be granted in any case. All extensions shall bewith the knowledge ofAcademicCouncil.

DE-REGISTRATION

IftheScholarsareunabletosubmittheirthesis,withinthestipulatedtime,includingextensions,the

scholarsarerequiredtode-register.Ongrantingde-registration,thescholarhastore-registerandsubmit

his/herthesis,withinsixmonthsfromthedateofre-registration.

22. PLAGIARISMPOLICY

In cases where the research work of a Research Scholar is found to be plagiarised without properacknowledgement,creditandreference,strictsuitableactionshallbetakenbytheUniversityasperitsPlagiarismPolicytoupholdthesanctityandintegrityofthePh.D.ResearchProgrammeandcredibilityof theUniversity.Theoriginality report fromthesoftwaretoolused forplagiarismcheck (hardcopy)signed by the Research Scholar and the Research Supervisor, shall be submitted at the time ofsubmissionof Thesis.A failure in the testwill, if not rectified in resubmission,will be the ground toterminatethestudentfromtheprogramme.Thesimilaritypercentageshallnotexceed15%overallandnot more than 1% from individual sources. In disciplines such as Indian Languages, where theplagiarismsoftwaredoesnotfunctionorisnotappropriate,theRPCwilldeviseitsownprocedurestoassesstheoriginalityofthethesis.

DEPOSITORYWITHINFLIBNET

Following the successful completion of the evaluation process and before the announcement of theawardofthePh.D.degree,anelectroniccopyofthePh.D.thesiswillbesubmittedtotheINFLIBNETforhostingthesamesoastomakeitaccessibletoallInstitutions/Colleges/Universities.

1. OrdinaryLeave:i) A full-time PhD student is eligible for 30 days leave for every completed year

(calculated in terms of two consecutive semesters, from the time of his/herjoining theprogramme)Saturdays,Sundaysorholidaysduring the leaveperiodarecountedtowardsleave,exceptforprefixedorsuffixedholidays.

ii) Ofthe30daysleave,amaximumof15daysofleaveispermittedinasemester.However, amaximumof5daysof such leave is allowed toavail at a stretch ifstudentishavinganyteachingassignment.

iii) However,astudentcanaccumulateleave,andavailamaximumof30days'leaveat a time in a year. The maximum number of carried-over leave, from onecompletedyeartoanother,is15days.

iv) TheProfessor in chargeof research sanctions leaveon recommendationof theresearchSupervisor.

2. Maternity/PaternityLeavei) A student is eligible for 8 months maternity/Child Care (continuous or with

breaks) leave or 30 days of paternity leave as applicable only once during thePhDProgramme.

ii) TheCentredirector sanctionsmaternity/paternity leaveon recommendationofthe research Supervisor and submission of a certificate from Senior MedicalOfficer/MedicalOfficeroftheuniversity/otherpublichospital.

3. Academicleavei) Academicleaveispermittedonthefollowinggrounds-ii) To attend conferences/seminars/workshops/trainings/short-term courses. A

maximumof30daysofleaveispermissibleinacalendaryear.iii) Amaximumof 30daysof leave in a calendar year is permissible for field trips

suchasdatacollection,surveywork,etc.iv) The coordinator of the Ph.D program sanctions academic leave on

recommendationoftheresearchsupervisor.v) Academicleaveexceeding30daysbutuptoamaximumof60daysinacalendar

year is approved by the Head, Ph.D. Program on recommendation of theresearch.

vi) Academicleaveofmorethan60daysbutuptoamaximumof12monthsisalsopermissible to carry out part of the research in another institute/ R&D Lab/industryinIndiaorabroad.Forsanctionofsuchaleave,aletterofconsentfromthehostinstituteisrequired.ThisleaveispermissibleonlyafterthestudenthaspassedthecomprehensiveexaminationandhasdonepartoftheresearchworkattheUniversity.

vii) On recommendations of the research Supervisor, the Head, Ph.D. Programapproves such an academic leave. Such cases are also to be reported to theAcademicCouncil.

viii) A student granted academic leave for one ormore semesters, pays prescribedfeesineverysemester.

ix) If a registration date falls during the period of academic leave, a studentcompletestheregistrationproceduresattheexpiryofhis/heracademicleave.

24. INTERPRETATIONANDPOWERTOMODIFY

1. AnydoubtordisputearisingoutoftheinterpretationoftheseRegulationsshallbereferredtotheDean,Faculty,whosedecisioninanintenseshallbefinalandbinding.

2. NotwithstandingallthathasbeenstatedintheaboveRules,theuniversityshallhavetherightto modify any of the above regulations from time to time with prospective or immediateeffectatthelevelofcompetentauthority.

25. GENERAL

1. NotwithstandinganythingcontainedintheseRules,allResearchScholarsshallbegovernedbytheCodeofConductandgeneralrulesandproceduresframedbytheuniversity,andinforcefromtimetotime.

2. TheAcademicCouncilcanmodifyorchangethestructure,thegoverningrulesandregulationsfromtimetotimeuponthegeneral/specificproposalfromProfessorincharge,Ph.DProgramorsuomotoanduponacceptancebytheBOM.
