TIRELESS DISCIPLESHIP The stories we’ve been hearing these weeks come from the very first chapter of Mark, and they show us the public ministry of Jesus in its infancy. Today’s account shows some of the strain or adjustment of his new life of preaching the reign of God, healing the sick, and casting out demons. Notice that after sunset, when darkness ended the workday, people brought the sick and possessed to Jesus. The following day he rose before dawn to get away by himself to pray, but to no avail. Simon Peter and the others don’t just look for him, they pursue him, filled with the fervor that his ministry has incited. With the self-sacrificing example he gave until the end of his earthly life, he tells his followers that this is his whole purpose. Through Mark, he is also telling the early church, and he is telling us, that this is our purpose, our vocation: to be tireless in our pursuit of proclaiming the Good News, and in bringing the healing, reconciling touch of Christ to the world. The longest married couple at the liturgy will be recognized and honored. The Mass will be held at St. Aloysius Church, 2025 Stuart Ave, Baton Rouge. EUCHARIST: OUR HOLY MEAL OF THANSGIVINGIn the fall of 2017, parishes in the Baton Rouge Diocese began retraining Extra Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. This was under the Office of Worship and guided by Fr. Tom Ranzino, Vicar General. More than 80 parishioners attended the sessions held in Marian Hall and found the training informative and nourishing to their faith. As a result of the tremendous excitement created by the renewed awareness that Eucharist is the single most important event in Catholic faith, we at Holy Family are ready to take the next step. In line with the recommendations of the General Instructions of the Roman Missal we will be adding communion under both species, Body & Blood of Jesus Christ, at our Saturday, 4 PM vigil masses. This is something expected of all Catholic Church’s for several years now. However with the shortage of trained ministers it was not practical for us till now. Beginning the 1st Saturday of Lent, February 17th, communion under both species will be offered for all weekend liturgies, masses. Remember that one form, the Body or Blood, is not more holy or more completely Christ over the other. They are equally Jesus. It is however in reception of both, if possible, that we fully reclaim the actions of the Last Supper and what Christ invited all to participate in as his disciples at the altar of sacrifice and service. Remember there is one time an individual would rightly choose not to receive the “precious blood”. If you have a cold, flu or some oral illness, common sense says please wait till you are fully healthy. Be assured our communion vessels are carefully purified/sanitized prior to each liturgy. Our extra ordinary ministers careful wipe the cup after each communicant receives. I pray more of you will consider reception of the fullness of Christ’s real presence in the great and humbling thanksgiving meal of our Lord’s body and blood, the Eucharist.

UPCOMING TRIPFather David will be escorting a group on the November 9, 2018 Viking River Cruise sailing from Nuremberg to Budapest.
