The TabletHow does it work? What does it do? Since this document was prepared updates have taken place on the clubs Asus tablets. Wherever I am aware of these changes I will add them without deleting the original instructions. There seems to be more flexibility in the operation of the device.

I assume this means that it should be easier than ever to set up your device according to your needs, to teach it to do things the way you want, and to teach it to recognise and respond to your voice and accent.

Asus Tablet 2

Here is a diagram taken from the Manual

NB 5, 7, and 8 don’t appear on the SeniorNet version.

Asus Tablet 5 Back to the real world of one syllable instructions:

5. If a picture of a battery appears, it means the battery needs recharging before the tablet will open up. This only takes a few minutes once it is plugged in. To check the level of charge in the battery go to, Settings, Battery, and the level will show.

6. At this stage you can add a PIN number or a password if you wish. Go to Settings, Security, Screen Lock, PIN, or Password.

from any part of the tablet to the Home Screen, like going back to the home page in a desktop or a laptop. The same icon of a house is used.

4. The shadowed rectangle opens a list of recently opened apps. 5. ( Apps are the applications which are loaded into the tablet to

There will probably be 2 screens of Apps on your tablet. 3. Tap on Widgets and you will get all the Widgets on your tablet.

There seem to be 4 screens of Widgets. 4. Tap on each icon to get into the programme. Just a few of these

Apps and Widgets are loaded on the Home Screens by default. 5. We can explore these now if you wish. I cannot guarantee what

the results may be here.

Question: What is a Widget? A more sophisticated programme than an app.Answer: From the Website (http://www.androidcentral.com/what-is-a-widget)

“Android widgets come in all shapes and sizes and range from the utilitarian 1-by-1 shortcut style to full-page widgets that blow us away with the eye-candy. Both types are very useful, and it's pretty common to see a widget or two on the home screen of any Android phone. A full-page widget, like HTC's weather widget for late-model Android phones, tells you everything you need to know about the current conditions, and is also a quick gateway to the weather application where you can see things like forecasts and weather data for other cities. At the other end of the spectrum, the Google Reader 1x1 widget watches a folder in your Google Reader account and tells you how many unread items there are, and opens the full application when pressed. Both are very handy, and add a lot to the Android experience.

10

Asus Tablet 11Most Android phones come with a handful of built-in widgets. Some manufacturer versions of Android offer more than others, but the basics like a clock, calendar, or bookmarks widget are usually well represented. This is just the tip of the iceberg though. A quick trip into the Android Market will dazzle you with the huge catalogue of third-party widgets available, with something that suits almost every taste. With Ice Cream Sandwich supporting things like higher resolution screens and re-sizable widgets, it's going to be an exciting year seeing what developers can come up with.”

To add more Apps or Widgets icons to the home screens: 1. Go to the Apps or Widgets screen. 2. Hold the chosen App or Widget and drag it right down to the

bottom of the screen. 3. It will then appear on a home page.

To remove Apps or Widgets icons from the home screens:

1. Hold the icon until the word Remove appears at the top of the screen.

2. Tap on it. 3. Or drag the icon into the Remove area.

Frequently Used Apps: These can be placed at the bottom of the Home Screen, and will

automatically appear at the bottom of every Home Screen.

To connect to Wifi: 1. The Settings icon is on the Home Screen. 2. Tap on it, tap on Wifi until it shows ON. 3. Here in the suite tap on SenNet, and follow the instructions. I will

give you the Password needed to connect.4. You will only need to do this once for any Wifi connection you log

into.
