941 BUTCHERS LAMBS THURSDAY 11:30AM

Auctioneer: Gwyn Williams 07785 350588

Strong demand again on all sorts, although today’s entry contained a greater proportion of plainer Lambs in need of a bit more finish to satisfy butcher and wholesale buyers’ requirements. Well-finished, inside-fed Lambs, in particular, sold like hot cakes, along with any well-fed outside Lambs, but there were several runs of Lambs showing the effect of a long wet winter which could have benefitted from some additional feeding. Indeed, several feeding buyers were in action today, helping keep trade to recent levels on all sorts.Jackie Trueman’s best Texel Crosses topped the day twice at 251 p/kg, with other top quality above 240 p/kg from Messrs Bailey and Billington, and all quality, well-finished Lambs above 220p/kg, with well-finished Swales and horned Lambs up to 205 p/kg.We do try to look after our Vendors every week……and pay you on the day! So come to BEESTON for friendly, professional service, a top trade….and take your money home with you! We’re not so far away! Plenty of vendors from North and East Cheshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Derbyshire, N Wales and Anglesey have found the way to Beeston-why not give it a go?!Don’t Forget- We offer a FREE, Confidential on-farm advisory service. Please use us to help you! Distance no object. Please call to arrange a visit: Gwyn Williams 07785 350588.

44 MONTH END DAIRY SALEAuctioneer: Simon Lamb 07815 188125

HEIFER’S AVERAGE £1866 AT BEESTON’S MONTH END

The February Month End Dairy Sale incorporating the Western Holstein Club’s Focus Milk Sale saw a much reduced entry of 44 in light of the large Mid Month Sale the previous week.

What we lacked in numbers, we certainly made up for in trade. Pedigree Heifers averaged an incredible £1866, Pedigree Cows £1700 and Pedigree In-calf heifers £1723. Such was the consistency of trade, trade topped at £2000 and nothing sold under £1510 within the in milk section.

Topping the day was a strong heifer from local vendors EV & B Boughey & Son, originally bred at Burnbrae, this Fantasmic daughter was sold giving 30 kg daily having calved at the beginning of the month. In-calf heifers were a wonderful trade, peaking at £1900 for a close calving heifer from JJ & JD Hughes, in-calf to the Angus and a daughter of Lemust.

WRIGHT MARSHALL of Beeston Castle Auction, Cheshire were the Auctioneers.

Short on Continentals but a relentless trade, sell your Continentals at Beeston and witness the trade were having. 96 STORE CATTLEAuctioneer: Jonathan Farrall 07796 952948

A few less stores about, somewhat of a disappointment given the levels of trade that are about at this moment, today certainly was no exception, fresh buyers around the ring once again and a definite feeling that many more could have been sold to advantage.

HF Langley & Partners consigned a cracking pen of forward Sim x steers off Monty cows, topping the sale at £1305. Still a good number of forward cattle over £1000 but decent youngsters also finding another gear with 13mo Charolais x steers to £955 for JH Kirk & Sons. One or two pens of good Friesians in the ranks today, a super pen from “The Willingtons” selling to £970.

Heifers looked dearer on the week, some better quality helped and, P Lloyd was out in front with fleshy continentals to £1140. Dairy bred Blues sold to £1005 for G Lewis and again, youngsters with shape were eagerly sought, 13mo Charolais to £860 for Ian Hollinshead who also sold a pedigree Charolais bull at £1335.

Thank you all for your continued support and if you have stores to sell, bring them where the buyers are; EVERY WEEK AT BEESTON, 18 recorded purchasers once again, many more unable to get started!

Remember, when stock is wanted, the Auction system is the only true way to value them AND guarantee payment.

Don’t hesitate to call Jonathan for any advice on marketing store/beef cattle or better still try some next week.

Basic Payment Scheme 2018It’s the time of year again in which BPS claims need to be completed, please find below a summary of this year’s updates :-

The RPA have undertaken proactive land change detection (PLCD) mapping updates which can lead to incorrect land data. Therefore it is extremely important to check your online maps and query and incorrect updates, these can include land cover changed, temporary electric fences mapped as permanent boundaries etcIs your land currently, or sometime doing the year going to be affected by transport or utility works? If such works last for over 28 days you must withdraw the land from your BPS application to prevent a penalty, compensation for the loss of BPS payment can be claimed for.Transferring land to a new owner or tenant can be completed online, if an error occurs during this process you must complete a paper RLE1 form to transfer/remove the affected parcel. We have now began the process of transferring entitlements, we expect further entitlements to come onto the market in the coming weeks therefore ensure that you have the current number of entitlements to match the eligible hectares in which you are claiming on. If they are not used, you will lose them! New greening rules, with key changes including ‘trees in a line’ under the EFA hedges option, the inclusion of field margins under the EFA buffer strip option and EFA fallow cover now converts to permanent grassland and the management rules have now changed. We are now taking instructions to undertake BPS claims for 2018, do not hesitate to contact Andrew, Jonty or Stephen if you would like to book an appointment or require further information.
