Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” They said, “Caesar's.”

Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar

the things that are Caesar's, and to Godthe things that are God's.”

Matthew 22:20-21

Twenty Third Sunday after TrinityOpening Words.

God in Christ has revealed his gloryCome let us worship

From the rising of the sun to its settingThe Lord’s name is greatly to be praised.

Give him praise, you servants of the LordO praise the name of the Lord.

Opening Song: Father we adore YouFather we adore YouLay our lives before You HallelujahJesus we adore You..Spirit we adore You..

We pray…

All Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known,

and from whom no secrets are hidden:cleanse the thoughts of our heartsby the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you,and worthily magnify your holy name;through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Summary of the LawThe response to the Summary is: Amen. Lord, have mercy.

We reflect on the need for the Lord’s mercy after hearing the great commandments to love.

KyrieLord, have mercy. All Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. All Christ, have mercy.Lord, have mercy. All Lord, have mercy.

The Collect:

Page 3:  · Web viewKit de Bolster warden@holytrinityutrecht.nl Treasurer Henry Miechielsen treasurer@holytrinityutrecht.nl Council Secretary Simon Urquhart secretary@holytrinityutrecht.nl

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, give to us the increase of faith, hope, and charity; and, that we may obtain that which you promise, make us to love that which you command; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

- 10 -Prayer after Communion:

[a moment of silence]All Father of all,

we give you thanks and praise, that when we were still far offyou met us in your Son and brought us home.Dying and living, he declared your love, gave us grace, and opened the gate of glory.May we who share Christ’s body live his risen life;we who drink his cup bring life to others;we whom the Spirit lights give light to the world.Keep us firm in the hope you have set before us,so we and all your children shall be free, and the whole earth live to praise your name;through Christ our Lord.Amen.

The priest pronounces the Final Blessing

Notices After the notices we stand to sing the final song

Final Song: There is a dayThere is a dayThat all creation's waiting forA day of freedomAnd liberation for the earthAnd on that dayThe Lord will come to meet His brideAnd when we see HimIn an instant we'll be changedWe will meet Him in the airAnd then we will be like HimFor we will see Him as He isAmenThen all hurt and pain will ceaseAnd we'll be with Him foreverAnd in His glory we will liveAmen

The trumpet soundsAnd the dead will then be raisedBy His powerNever to perish againOnce only fleshNow clothed with immortalityDeath has now beenSwallowed up in victorySo lift your eyesTo the things as yet unseenThat will remain nowFor all eternityThough trouble's hardIt's only momentaryAnd it's achievingOur future glory

Song: I surrender allAll to Jesus I surrenderAll to Him I freely giveI will ever love and trust HimIn His presence daily liveI surrender allI surrender allAll to Thee my blessed SaviourI surrender all

All to Jesus I surrenderHumbly at His feet I bowWorldly pleasures all forsakenTake me Jesus take me now

All to Jesus I surrenderMake me Saviour wholly ThineLet me feel the Holy SpiritTruly know that Thou art mineAll to Jesus I surrenderLord I give myself to TheeFill me with Thy love and powerLet Thy blessings fall on me

New Testament Reading: Philippians 3:17-21Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us. For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Song: GuardianKing of love and grace my GuardianAll my hopes and fears are in Your handsI'm in Your handsWhere You go I'll go show me the wayEv'ry step I take be now my guideGod on my sideYou go before meYou're there beside me

When I hear You say trust and obeyI will walk by faith and not by sightGod of my lifeSo let Your kingdom come Your will be doneAll Your promises will stand foreverYou're my defender

And if I wander Love will find meGoodness and mercy will always followYou go before me my Guardian

You are God our great defenderStrong in love forever faithfulWe are Yours and we will trust in You

The Gospel: St Matthew 22:15-22Priest: Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Luke. All Glory to you O Lord. Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to entangle him in his words. And they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are true and teach the way of God truthfully, and you do not care about anyone's opinion, for you are not swayed by appearances. Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why put me to the test, you hypocrites? Show me the coin for the tax.” And they brought him a denarius. And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” They said, “Caesar's.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.” When they heard it, they marveled. And they left him and went away

Priest: This is the Gospel of the LordAll Praise to you, O Christ.

The Talk

The Creed

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,eternally begotten of the Father,God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,begotten, not made,of one Being with the Father;through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary

and was made man. - 8 -

All We do not presume to come to this your table, O merciful Father,

trusting in our own righteousness, but in your manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord, whose nature is always to have mercy. Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh your dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body and our souls washed through with his precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.

The CommunionBaptized persons who are communicant members of other Churches which subscribe to the doctrine of the Holy Trinity and are in good standing in their own Church are welcome to Communion. Come forward with faith, hope, and love, discerning the Lord’s body. Those who do not wish to receive communion are welcome to come forward for a blessing – you may indicate by crossing your arms over your chest at the altar rail.

Medley during CommunionWho am I

Who am I that the Lord of all the earthWould care to know my nameWould care to feel my hurtWho am I that the Bright and Morning StarWould choose to light the wayFor my ever wand'ring heartNot because of who I amBut because of what You've doneNot because of what I've doneBut because of who You areI am a flower quickly fadingHere today and gone tomorrowA wave tossed in the ocean

A vapor in the windStill You hear me when I'm callingLord You catch me when I'm fallingAnd You've told me who I amI am YoursWho am I that the eyes that see my sinWould look on me with loveAnd watch me rise againWho am I that the voice that calmed the seaWould call out through the rainAnd calm the storm in me

- 7 -Hear us, merciful Father, we humbly pray,and grant that, by the power of your Holy Spirit,we receiving these gifts of your creation, this bread and this wine,according to your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ’s holy institution,in remembrance of his death and passion,may be partakers of his most blessed body and blood;

who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying:

Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you;do this in remembrance of me.

In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks;he gave it to them, saying:

Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.

All Amen.[a moment of silence]

Let us pray. All Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;thy kingdom come; thy will be doneon earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.And lead us not into temptation;but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Agnus DeiAll Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world,

have mercy on us.Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, grant us peace.

Page 9:  · Web viewKit de Bolster warden@holytrinityutrecht.nl Treasurer Henry Miechielsen treasurer@holytrinityutrecht.nl Council Secretary Simon Urquhart secretary@holytrinityutrecht.nl

- 4 -For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose againin accordance with the Scriptures;he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The Intercessions (we kneel or sit)

The intercessor prays: Lord, in your mercyWe respond: Hear our prayer

And at the end: Merciful FatherWe all say: accept these prayers
