Congratulations!

Your weighted cumulative Grade Point Average makes you eligible for consideration for membership in

the KHAS. Additional consideration will be made on the basis of Character, Service and and Academics.

For the KHAs, it is your activities and accomplishments you have achieved since entering AFJROTC Unit

PA-20062 that the NCOIC will be considering. The attached forms will enable the NCOIC to evaluate

your candidacy in a more objective manner.

Before you start the application process please read over the KHAS article sections.

Kitty Hawk Air Society (KHAS)

Article I

Section I – Preamble:

“As a member of the North Penn AFJROTC Chapter of the Kitty Hawk Air Society (KHAS), I promise to

demonstrate my integrity and do what is right, strive for excellence in all that I try to do and provide my

service before self to my school, my community and my fellow cadets to the best of my ability. I, as a

member of the KHAS, in order to uphold academic standards and promote further interest in academic

achievement, create closer and more efficient relationship with the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps

(JROTC), serve the school and the community, develop patriotism and good citizenship, do hereby the

establish of this constitution. I acknowledge my affiliation with the Air Force Association and will

support their efforts to further aerospace education.”

Section 2 – Objectives

The main objective of the KHAS is to promote academic excellence, followed by dedication to their

community and school by doing community service events, developing leadership capabilities, and help

encourage others with academic excellence by tutoring or any other academic support. Students who put

great effort on academics but cannot attend extra-curricular activities will be recognized as a member of

the KHAS if he or she meets the requirements. A student who does both academics and extracurricular

may also be part of this Kitty Hawk Air Society.

Article II

Section I-Memberships

a. Active (requirements): Members have to be a citizen of the United States or a legal immigrant in the

United States of America, and members also have to be a full time school student at North Penn High

School, Pennbrook Middle School, Penndale Middle School, or Pennfield Middle School. Invitations to

the KHAS will be extended to anybody who is eligible and interested in the honor society. Eligibility will

be extended to those who have at least an A in the AFJROTC class and an overall “C” average,

WITHOUT any failing grades within other classes. A member must maintain these standards to remain an

active member.

b. Honorary: The superintendent, principal, the State President of AFA, and Air Force Junior ROTC

instructors will automatically be honorary members. Other honorary members are those who have

positions within the KHAS. Adults, such as school officials and distinguished visitors, may be made

honorary member from time to time.

c. Membership Procedures: Individuals who wish to become active members must meet the criteria of

Article II, Section 1a. When the commander and the KHAS advisors meet with the eligible individual,

they may approve the membership. The KHAS advisors and those with positions within the KHAS may

also nominate member who have made outstanding contributions to KHAS for honorary members.

Article III

Section I- Punishments

a. Probation: Any member, who no longer meets the requirements of Article II Section 1a on interims,

when grade point averages are checked, will be put on probation. When an active member is put on

probation from KHAS, the member has time until the next time grades are checked to fix the reason they

were put on academic probation. In those two weeks’ time, if the member is not meeting with standards

(Article II Section 1a), the member is kept on probation. If the member meets or excels standards within

that time period, he/she is taken off probation, and may again be an active or honorary member. If the

member is an active member, they are allowed no more than two probations in an academic year. As an

honorary member, after two probations, the cadet is fired from her/his position within KHAS and may

still be an active member. After being fired from their position, the cadet is a normal active member and is

allowed one probation before he or she can be removed from the KHAS. A member who is on probation

or removed may no longer keep their Kitty Hawk Air Society badge.

However, members on probationary status may attend Kitty Hawk meetings and activities; but they may

not hold position within the KHAS or vote on any of the society business.

b. Expulsion: Expulsion from KHAS can be attained multiple ways. If an active member is put on

probation, on their third time, that member will be expelled from the KHAS. Expulsion can be obtained

from the organization for other than just academic reasons. In a case of which the member had been seen

with reasons for expulsion will meet with the commander and the SASI and/or ASI if he or she is to be

expelled or not. Any honorary member, who misses two or more consecutive meetings without the

approval of the commander or the vice-commander, will be required to resign from the office. Any active

member, who misses two or more consecutive meetings without any notification, will be responsible for

his/her expulsion.

Article IV

Section I- Organization: The KHAS will be organized so as to conform to school policies concerning

other like organizations. As a minimum there will be a Commander (President), Vice Commander (Vice

President), Administration Officer (Secretary), and Probationary Officer. New Officers will be elected at

least once per academic year by a majority vote of the organization’s general membership and approval of

the Commander and the SASI and/or ASI.

Section II- Commander: It shall be the duty of the commander to preside at all meetings of the

organization and to further with all due earnestness the interests thereof. The commander will be an ex

officio member of all committees. The commander will be a special assistant to the corps commander and

will ensure that the activities of KHAS do not conflict with those of the corps.

Section III- Vice Commander: It shall be the duty of the vice commander to perform the duties of the

commander in his or her absence or inability to act. The vice commander will be assigned additional

responsibilities as determined by the commander.

Section IV- Administration Officer: The administration officer will be held responsible for recording all

meetings, maintain necessary files, and handle routine correspondence as assigned by the commander or

vice-commander.

Section V- Probationary Officer: The probationary officer will oversee all matters related to probation and

academic failures. It shall also be the duty of the probationary officer to check grade point average of the

KHAS members when the interims or report cards come out and meet with the commander with any

discrepancies and/or academic confirmation. The probationary officer will also be in charge of keeping

tracks of the badges each member earns while contacting with the commander.

KITTY HAWK AIR SOCIETY PLEDGE FORM

enthusiasm for the KHAS pledge form and the ideals of the society.

furnish four references – including a minimum of two NPHS faculty (can’t be Major and Chief) – using

the recommendation form. You will need four copies to distribute. Faculty recommendations must be

II. Service

Service is the culmination of Community Services. To qualify as a KHAS member each cadets must demonstrate at least 15 hours of Community Service within this academic year. Community Service should not be completed only over two or three days. It should be a continuous and ongoing

commitment. Community Service during the school day as part of a student’s schedule or as a requirement of a course does not count nor does babysitting or tutoring for family members . If all of your volunteer hours were earned in JROTC, please check with Cyber Datal to get a copy of your AFJROTC Cadet Transcript.
