Postgraduate Certificate: Catholic School Leadership Who is the Postgraduate Certificate aimed at? This postgraduate certificate has been designed for those in middle/ senior leadership positions in Catholic schools and also for aspiring Catholic school leaders, including school governors and other professionals, in order to develop their knowledge and understanding of leadership within Catholic settings and to respond to specific issues facing Church school leaders today. The Postgraduate Certificate comprises of two modules: Educational Leadership in Catholic Schools and Change Management in Catholic Schools. Sessions will be led by University staff with support from Catholic school leaders. Progression - If you undertake another elective module and the compulsory Research Methods module, you will gain a Postgraduate Diploma - If you then undertake the final dissertation within a Catholic School Leadership focus you will graduate with an MA Education or MA Education (Catholic School Leadership) Benefits - An opportunity to continue your professional development - Gain a qualification in Catholic School Leadership at masters level - Supports succession planning, recruitment and retention within Catholic Schools - An opportunity to meet others interested in leadership from across other Catholic schools - Access to University facilities (eg library, IT systems, Student Support Services) - May gain credits towards the CCRS for those who have not completed this award - Builds on the CCRS for those who have completed this award, but no requirement to have completed the CCRS to undertake the Postgraduate Certificate in Catholic School Leadership - Sessions will be delivered by academics who are recognised internationally within the field of Leadership and Management, PGCert Catholic School Leadership 13-05-15 EXPECT TO ACHIEVE

Module Summary:

Educational Leadership in Catholic Schools (30 credits)

The module explores the theoretical underpinnings of Catholic School Leadership and the distinctive nature of educational leadership within Catholic school settings, in order to enhance practice. Students will critically reflect on and evaluate the impact of different approaches to leadership and models of leadership, considering spiritual and ethical leadership in particular. The module will assist teachers and others working in church schools in the task of integrating Christian principles and concepts into their professional responsibilities as leaders. Assessment: 4,000 word assignment regarding a chosen aspect of Catholic School Leadership

Change Management in Catholic Schools (30 credits)

The module develops knowledge and understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of change management and the distinctive nature of managing change within Catholic schools, including an introduction to Appreciative Inquiry. It focuses on the development of professional relationships, networks and community learning contexts which establish an environment in which change can happen and becomes part of the sustainability of Catholic schools.

The module will assist teachers and others working in Catholic schools in the task of integrating Christian principles and concepts into their professional responsibilities as agents of change management. Assessment: 4,000 word assignment regarding managing change in Catholic schools

Sessions

Modules are delivered via 6 x 2 hour twilight sessions spread across the year. Sessions are at Newman University from 5.30 – 7.30pm. Educational Leadership within Catholic SchoolsSemester 1 session dates: 17-09-15; 24-09-15; 08-10-15; 22-10-15; 05-11-15; 03-12-15Catholic Management within Catholic SchoolsSemester 2 session dates: 21-01-16; 11-02-16; 03-03-16; 17-03-16; 14-04-16; 28-04-16For large groups sessions can be delivered at a venue of your choice with dates and times to suit you.

Cost (2015-16): The fee for the Postgraduate Certificate: Catholic School Leadership is £1501 (for alumni, those employed in a partner organisation and Birmingham Catholic Primary Partnership members)/ £1668. For an additional £150 you can also gain national professional recognition via the Teaching & Learning Academy (TLA) from your masters level work.
