All about Move it BoomMove it Boom, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust’s award-winning physical activity campaign for primary school kids is back for the third time, and we’d love your school to get involved!

Move it Boom is completely free for schools to enter, and we have some great prizes on offer. Move it Boom launches on Monday 5 March and will run until Friday 29 June. The overall winning school will be announced on Friday 6 July.

Move it Boom is hosted on the Health for Kids website (www.healthforkids.co.uk/moveitboom), and is a fun way for children to learn about the importance of physical activity for overall health and wellbeing.

In 2016, 218 schools across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland took part in the competition, with children logging a phenomenal 47,053 activities. This year we’d like to go even bigger and better!

How kids can take partWhen children first visit the site, they will be allocated an anonymised username and password. Class teachers may like to give out login cards (included with this digital pack) to children as a reminder. Children will also be asked to select their school from a drop-down list.*

The Move it Boom site provides lots of suggestions (including video clips and links) for how children can get moving and having fun, either by setting themselves individual challenges or by joining in with friends and siblings.

Once they’re ready to record their activity, children choose from 12 pre-selected broad categories, which include ‘playing games at home’, ‘inventing a game’ and ‘challenge yourself’. They click on the appropriate icon and straightaway will see their points score increase. As they add more and more points, they will see their unique robot develop and change, with upgraded parts reflecting the nature of the activities they have been doing.

As well as the main schools competition, children are encouraged to work together to invent their own games which they think others will enjoy playing and to create a demonstration film. The best films will be uploaded to the Move it Boom site, with an overall winner selected at the end of the competition. Children will need adult support to do this - more information can be found at www.moveitboom.co.uk/your-ideas

*Please note that the points being added for each school are monitored throughout the campaign in the interests of ensuring a fair competition. If any usernames are logging an unusually high number of activities, we will query this with you.

Why your school should take partTaking part in Move it Boom brings a number of benefits for the school, as well as health benefits for children.

It provides evidence of how your school is supporting children’s health and wellbeing, which can be used in your school Self-Evaluation Form (SEF). Move it Boom can be used to evidence the physical activity aspects of the Healthy

Schools accreditation, if applicable, or to support Ofsted reporting. The Healthy Schools team is particularly interested to see how schools use local and national campaigns to encourage healthy behaviours in and out of school, as well as how the whole school community is involved. Move it Boom is a great resource for schools to use to show this.

Throughout the competition, you will receive regular updates on where your school is positioned on the leaderboard, how many and which types of activities have been logged. We’ll also send you ideas about how to keep children motivated and involved.

Prize for the best game demonstration film submitted

The film submitted to us with the best game demonstration will win a tour of the King Power stadium and tickets to an Under 23s match, provided by Leicester City Football Club.

Full terms and conditions for these prizes are set out below.

Promoting Move it Boom in school and to parentsIn previous years, what the winning schools had in common was their ability to maintain momentum and continue to encourage children to log activities throughout the competition. Here are some ideas to help you promote Move it Boom with your school community:

Make sure you display the posters prominently in school where everyone can see them.

Set aside time in school for children to login and register. Throughout the competition, invite them to share their robot’s upgrades with classmates.

Ensure children who may not have access to a computer have opportunities at school to log their physical activity.

Make checking the leaderboard part of your school routine, for example as part of a weekly assembly. That way, children will be reminded to keep recording their activities. Share this information with parents and carers in your school newsletters, on your website and through your social media channels.

Set the task of creating a game or trying out one of the challenges as homework.

Use the lesson plan included with this digital pack to encourage children to make up their own games. Older pupils could then teach younger children to play the games at playtimes.

Look at creating school records for the various challenges – who can do the most star jumps in a minute? Can they beat a teacher?

Use the challenges suggested on the site as warm ups in your P.E. lessons. Share what your school is doing on social media using the hashtag

#MoveitBoom – social media resources are included on below.

Our school is supporting the #MoveitBoom physical activity competition for children organised by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust. By taking part in physical activities (anything from running and swimming to dancing, skipping, ball games or yoga), children will get points for our school, helping us to be in with a chance of winning some great prizes, including some customised wooden playground equipment worth £1,000. Children have been given an anonymised username and password in school so that they can access the Move it Boom website (www.healthforkids.co.uk/moveitboom) and record the activity they’ve been doing. The website has some great ideas for games and challenges to keep them busy at home too! And, as they log their activities, children get to have fun building and upgrading a virtual robot. Dear Parent/Carer

Encourage your child to take part in Move it Boom and win prizes for your school

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust has teamed up with local sports partners and is launching the new Move it Boom physical activity competition on Monday 5 March. We’d love you child to take part and win prizes for their school.

Move it Boom is hosted on the Health for Kids website (www.healthforkids.co.uk/moveitboom). Children record the activities they have done and earn points. As they do so, they will get to build and upgrade a virtual robot. The more physically active they are, the more advanced their robot will become, and the more points their school will receive.

Healthforkids.co.uk/moveitboom has plenty of ideas to inspire children to challenge themselves and try something new. They can even invent their own games and submit a demo film. The best films will be featured on the site.

Why your child should take partThe winning primary school will be the one with the most activities recorded when the competition closes at the end of June, and will win £1,000 wooden playground equipment donated by Red Monkey (www.redmonkeyplay.co.uk).

Other great prizes on offer include the opportunity to spend the day at Loughborough University’s Olympic training facilities, stadium tours at Leicester City Football Club, Leicestershire Cricket Club and Leicester Riders, match tickets and taster sessions in school.

Throughout the competition, your child will be able to track their school’s progress and find out if they’ve made the top 10 weekly leader board.

Page 7:   · Web viewDear Headteacher. Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust is delighted to bring you the new Move it Boom physical activity competition for primary school children

How does it work? Encourage your child to login to

www.healthforkids.co.uk/moveitboom. They will be given an anonymous username and asked to select their school.

On the site they’ll find ideas for each of the twelve activity categories. There are lots of suggestions to keep children active at home with minimal equipment (a great alternative to screen time) as well as things they can try at the park, at school or at a sports club.

Children then record the physical activity they have done, getting points for their school. The more activity they do, the more their robot avatar is upgraded.
