Image downloaded 9/21/18 from https://www.cdc.gov/healthyyouth/wscc/
PurposeThis strategy is to increase participant awareness and interest in school nursing role, scope of practice, and educational and career pathways for becoming a school nurse.
DescriptionIntroduce prospective nurses to the nursing role in a school setting through an Information Session via a powerpoint presentation, interactive group discussion, and/or hands-on demonstrations of Electronic Health Record documentation.
Instructions:
1. Choose a strategy
2. Implement the strategy
3. Complete the CQI User Survey to report your results to the ESHS Evaluation Team
PDSA Strategy1) Identify problem. There is a lack of qualified candidates applying for school nurse (per
diem / building based) positions.2) Analyze problem . Potential candidates may be unfamiliar with the role of the school
nurse and/or lack awareness of and respect for school nursing as a viable and rewarding career option. Nurse leaders need an efficient and effective way to identify and educate appropriate candidates about pathways for becoming a school nurse.
3) Generate potential solutions. Facilitate an information session including a powerpoint presentation, interactive group discussion, and hands-on demonstrations of Electronic Health Record documentation.
4) Select plan and solution.5) Implement solution on a test basis .

In order for School Nurses to obtain a professional educator license, they must either have their Master's degree or National Certification. School Nurses can obtain the initial educator license and waive these requirements once, so that they have 10 years to either get the Master's or the National Certification.
