Ah, November! One of the top 12 months of the year, and a time when walks along the Wellington waterfront are enhanced by the burgeoning number of 80s movie and TV star wannabees or adult movie* lookalikes seemingly on display!

* As an aside, it has recently been reported that the declining number of adult movies has impacted New Zealand's Office of Film and Literature Classification https://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/tv-radio/98447188/classification-office-refocuses-future-due-to-lack-of-pornos-and-a-evolving-digital-future.

For this month, supporters of the charity Movember (mŏ-vember) may be growing beards and moustaches to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men's suicide.Keen to support the charity, but not keen to cultivate her own facial hair, Valerie has embarked on her own Movember (moov-ember) goal. Valerie has pledged to move 10000 steps a day for the month of November (according to her fitbit), and you can support her, monitor her progress or donate to Movember via this link https://mosista.co/13644652?mc=1 (main site https://nz.movember.com ). And for all those Mŏvember supporters who cannot bear to remove their fabulous facial creations at the end of November, here is a Christmas idea…

+ Post – September/October 2017:Who knew? Apparently 'extra' is in the top 7 slang words you need to know in 2017…

EF Education First describes itself on its website as "an international education company focussing on language, academics, educational travel, and cultural experience". A recent EF blog described the 7 slang words you need to know in 2017 if you want to stay totally on fleek (ie on point). And 'extra' was number 6:

6. ExtraPerhaps the word gaining the fastest popularity right now is extra, which describes someone who’s over-the-top or trying too hard. Knowing this might even force you to realise you yourself are extra about something, which is a distressing but ultimately necessary discovery.

So we are getting Extra Law Limited up and running whilst it is still cool to say 'extra', and to show that we're still snatched (which is apparently the new fleek, according to yet another website – it's difficult to keep up!), here is even a relevant meme:

Friend: It's super casual, don't be extraMe:

NB Yes, that's a peacock…

Homage to the Ministry of Education and a Ministry staff member's sense of humour…

The lift opened briefly one day this year in Mātauranga House (the Ministry of Education's National office in Wellington), revealing a scene which evidenced both a staff member's sense of humour AND his or her knowledge of the oeuvre of a New York stand up comedian, Jay London. To pay homage to the Ministry, as first Valerie's employment and then her temporary secondment there comes to an end, we recreated the moment (using a beautifully restored Ministry taonga) and record it here for posterity:
