B IBLE STUDY

THEME: GODLY LEADERSHIP:POLITICS AND CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP,
Study 1/1 January 6 EpiphanySUB THEME: Introductory StudyTOPIC: General Introduction to theme & series.TEXT: Dan.4:24-27; Luke 12: 42 – 47.
AIMS: To help participantsi. grasp the meaning of the theme ii. recognize godly leadership, andiii. be challenge to have a desire to raise
godly leadership.
INTRODUCTION: The call for godly leadership in the political arena and Christian discipleship may be indicative of a society that has strayed from God’s pattern and ordained style of leadership. What then is leadership? It is “the capacity of someone to lead others;” “having or occupying the position as a leader of a group, organization, etc.” Godly leadership is the leadership that recognizes “that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses,” (Dan.4:25) and knows “that heaven rules” (Dan.4:26).
The cardinal question in this study then is with so many leaders lacking in the godly virtues of humility and selflessness, has human society not been engulfed by ungodly leadership?
STUDY GUIDE
1. What does godly leadership mean to you as individuals and as a church? Luke 12:42, 43, Mark 10:42-45.

2. InDan.4:24-27; Mark 10:41-47; Luke 12: 42, 43; Phil.2:4 mention and discuss some traits of godly leadership.
3. Define and discuss the following about godly leadership: Characteristics
of godly leadership;i. Characteristics of ungodly
leadership;ii. Why and how to raise godly
leadership;iii. Godly leadership in relation to
Christian discipleship.iv. What do godly leadership and
politics share in commonv. Why should we desire to raise godly
leaders and leadership? Prov.29:2; 14:34.
CONCLUSION: Christians ought to always remember that all the authority and power that leadership position confers on us are for us to provide godly leadership wherever we are, and in our respective levels of service.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Acknowledge heaven’s rule andyou’ll have the key to a meaningful rule on earth.

THE FAITHFUL GOD.
“Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth Covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations.” Deut. 7:9.
The book of Deuteronomy records the last three messages that Moses delivered to Israel. Moses, undoubtedly aware of Israel’s past mistakes, is recounting the past and urging the people not to repeat the same mistakes. Part-way into the second of these messages we come to 7:9 where Moses exhorts the people to know their God and not forget two important truth about Him.
First, He is God. He is the one and only true God. All other gods are “worthless idols (I Chronicles 16:26). Here is a strict caution against all friendship and fellowship with idols and idolaters. Those who are in communion with God, must have no communication with the unfruitful works of darkness.
Second, He is faithful and demonstrates His faithfulness by keeping His covenant with His people and by His steadfast love for His people.
Three verses earlier, Moses reminds the people that they were chosen by God “out of all the people on the face of the earth” to be his “treasured possession” (vs. 6). He chose them not because of their greatness (vs. 7), but because He is faithful – “Keeping the oath” that He swore to their fathers (vs. 8).
What is remarkable is that Moses reiterates in verse 9 that God’s faithfulness was conditional. It would apply only to those who “love him and keep his commandments.” The year’s ahead proved that these chosen people on whom God had “set his love” (vs. 7), failed to meet the condition. They broke God’s covenant and failed to “love him and keep his commandments.”
After about 1,200 years of Israel recurring failures and
God’s enduring faithfulness and steadfast love, God
promised through the prophet Jeremiah that the day was
coming when “I will put my law within them, and I
will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each teach his neighbour and each his brother, saying, ‘know the LORD; for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more” (Jeremiah 31:33-34).
After another 600 years, the writer of the book of Hebrews recalls these words from Jeremiah and announces that through the blood of Jesus, a “new and living way” had been opened for all who “draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.” Then the writer exhorts all who are in Christ to “hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering for he who promised is faithful” (Hebrew10:20-23).
Dear friends, as we start another year, remember God’s love, His power, His provision, His law, His judgements and blessings so lavished on you in the past years. Let this memory keep you humble, faithful and obedient and He definitely will be faithful to you in every possible way in the course of the year.
