Database Administrator

Purpose of roleCased Dimensions Ltd are currently seeking suitable candidates for a Database Administrator. The role will be responsible for managing and maintaining databases including migrating and support. The person will direct or perform all activities related to maintaining a successful database environment. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and maintaining the database system; establishing policies and procedures pertaining to the management, security, maintenance, and use of the database management system; and training employees in database management and use. The DBA is expected to stay abreast of emerging technologies and new design approaches. Location Belfast Hours 9:00am-5:30pmJob Type Permanent Reporting to Service Delivery Director

Key Responsibilities

Main Roles and responsibilities;DB Software

DB Installation, Database creation and setup Database minor version update implementation & patch management Open TAR’s with Microsoft Support

Files & Tables Physical tablespace layout (data & log file location) Database file management Storage segment administration including table, Index, LOB, rollback &

temporary segments Table Partitioning scheme generation and implementation

Database User Admin User creation, quota assignment, object-level privilege administration,

security management and role creation Network connectivity management

Back-up & Recovery (Advanced) Database Backup & Recovery implementation and management

including instance failover to standby server, dataset propagation, incremental backups, full backups, logical recovery

Logical (RMAN) and Physical (file) backup & Recovery supported Database refreshes from production to non-production environments Advance replication implementation and management including log file

shipping, SQL Cluster Enterprise, Hyper-V Cluster and Hyper-V Replica Instance load-balancing Development of customized scripts for performing automated

maintenance (maintenance plan) Standby Server Implementation Instance failover automation

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential Criteria 3rd level qualification – ITIL v3 Foundation Certification - Solid understanding of ITIL v3 Best

Practices 2 years experience and expertise working as a DBA (SQL 2003 – SQL 2008) using ITIL best practice 2 years experience with ITSM Tools (ServiceManager is a plus) Proficient use of Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, Word and

Powerpoint, Project experience would be useful.

Desirable Criteria Failover clustering, SAN replication, and other high availability

technologies SQL Server merge, peer to peer, or transactional replication Analysis Services, Integration Services, or Reporting Services
