Introduction

As well as our standard range of products, goods

can be custom-made to tailor-suit a specific site

or requirement.

Our team has over 20 years experience in the design,

manufacture and installation of street furniture. Risk

assessments and method statements are carried out in

accordance with CDM regulations. All work is covered

by our Personal Indemnity Insurance. If necessary,

where planning permission is required, a qualified

architect will facilitate the application on your behalf.

Costs for this service will vary for each project.

Shelters are designed to meet the structural integrity

standard BS 5950-1990 (structural use of steelwork in

building, Part 1).

Goods and installations are guaranteed for 12 months

parts and labour.

INSTALLATION

All shelters are supplied in kit form with

comprehensive installation instructions for ease of

assembly. Alternatively, we can provide a full quotation

for the manufacture, delivery and installation including

ground works, where necessary. We offer a free-of-

charge nationwide site survey to assess the site and

offer expert advice on the most suitable product for

the application.

Please note, that if you are installing a full concrete

plinth for a shelter, please allow an additional 500mm

of concrete to the width and length of the base.

DELIVERY

From receipt of order smaller items take approximately

3-4 weeks delivery. Shelters are on a 5-6 weeks lead

time from order. Bespoke products are 6-8 weeks from

acceptance of drawings. If you require goods sooner,

please ask as we can sometimes improve on

these estimates.

STEEL WORK FINISHES

Hot dipped galvanised – to BS EN ISO 1461:1999

This treatment offers a low-maintenance, long-lasting

finish for all types of environment. It is dull silver in

appearance. If requested when ordering, a certificate of

conformity can be supplied.

POLYESTER POWDER COATING

Powder coating has excellent outdoor exposure

qualities, as well as offering an attractive consistent

appearance in a variety of colours.

The importance of the finish is not only the visible top

coat, but, equally, the pre-treatment of the steelwork.

All Apex products are shot blast to SA2.5 to degrease

the surface and provide a key for the subsequent

processes. The steel is then etch-primed with Zinc

Phosphate anti-corrosive Primer then the final coat of

Polyester Powder is electrostatically sprayed onto the

surface to a thickness of 80 - 110 microns. The treated

steelwork is then heat-cured, melting the Polyester

Powder into a continuous phase and bonding it into

the steelwork. Polyester Powder Coats give high

durability and high resistance to weathering plus

excellent colour stability.

Another option available for powder coating is Extra

Life. This is a programme of coating systems that

offers product protection for up to 12 years. It

incorporates the latest powder primer technologies.

There many stock colours to choose from so we have

listed our most popular colours below;

If, however, you require a colour we do not stock, this

will incur an additional charge. Alternatively we can

match your required colour to the nearest stock BS or

RAL Colour. Please speak to our Sales Department.

If requested, goods can be polyester powder coated on

top of the galvanized finish to give a more durable

resistance in extreme weather conditions. This does give

the products a rougher texture than the standard powder

coating due to the galvanized undercoat.

The reverse of the plastisol sheet comes as standard in a

grey polyester. The exposed face is supplied in a 200 micron

external grade PVC coating. The sheeting is non-

combustible and will not contribute to a fire. The roofing

sheets achieve a Class 0 rating in the Building Regulations.

CODES

To try and simplify our catalogue referencing a number

of standard pre-fixed are used throughout relating

cladding and racks. An example of this is the Theta

Tbep iR12, Theta is the model, Tbep transparent roof,

back panel and end panels and integral rack for 12

cycles. A key is listed below to refer to:

P – Plastisol Roof Cladding

Pep – Plastisol Roof and Transparent End Panels

T – 5mm thick transparent PET roofing

Tep – 5mm thick transparent PET roofing and end panels

B – back panel, this can be plastisol or PET

iR– Integral Rack, if there is a number following this it

relates to the capacity of cycles the rack holds.

R – floor-mounted rack

iMC – Motorcycle Rack

SCS – Single-sided Scooter Rack

SCD – Double-sided Scooter Rack

BF – Base Fix

SF – Submerged Fixed

P – Pedestal

I – Integral

AD – Additional Bay/Unit

Jnr – Junior Cycles, if sub-fixed after the shelter, it

refers to a smaller style shelter and rack if sub-fixed

after the rack it depicts a junior style rack.

Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)

These high quality sheets are solid plastic – available in

transparent, smoked grey or opaque. They are extremely

impact-resistant and have an excellent fire rating

complying with BS 476:Part 7. The resistance to

weathering is guaranteed for 5 years (10 year available

upon request). They have a high chemical resistance so

even graffiti can be removed using an acetone free

solvent cleaner. PET is environmentally friendly with

ideal re-cycling properties. If not specified the sheets

will be supplied in 5mm thick transparent for the

cladding. There is an 8mm option available in both

transparent and opaque – there would be an additional

charge for this option.

Plastisol Coated Steel

Plastisol cladding (HP200®) offers excellent resistance to

corrosion and moderate weather resistance. Guaranteed

for a minimum of 10 years, it presents a hard-wearing

option available in 6 standard colours:-

Contemporary Shelter suitable to accommodate

cycles and/or motorcycles. Cycle racks can be adapted

to hold junior cycles and/or scooters (shelter showing

the incorporated scooter racks is shown on P54).

Motorcycles can be free-standing or the shelter can be

What is BREEAM?

BREEAM is a tool to measure the sustainability of

non-domestic buildings in the UK. By using a

straightforward scoring system BREEAM addresses a

wide-range of environmental and sustainability issues

and enables developers and designers to prove the

environmental credentials of their buildings to

planners and clients.

What are the BREEAM Requirements for Cycle Storage?

> The space is covered overhead and protected from rain

> The covered area and the cycle racks are set in or fixed

to a permanent structure and allow both the wheel

and the frame to be locked securely. Our racks are

located in a locked structure fixed to or part of a

permanent structure with CCTV surveillance.

> There is a minimum distance of 1.0m between cycle

racks, where the racks allow for two-sided parking,

and 0.8m for one-sided parking to enable bikes to be

easily stored and accessed.

> Racks positioned in a circular array and spaced in

accordance with the guidance in the New

Metric Handbook.

> There is a minimum distance from any obstruction of

300mm for single-sided use and 900mm for

double-sided use.

> Adequate Lighting is provided in accordance with

BS5489 part 1.

> The facilities are in a prominent site location that is

viewable from the building.

> The majority of the cycle racks are within 100m of a

building entrance (ideally within 50m). Or, in the case

of further or higher education buildings on a campus,

where it is not feasible to meet the 100m requirement

the assessor justifiably deems that the facilities are in

an easily accessible location for building users, the

credit may still be awarded.

Zeta Umbrellas are a low-cost solution to provide cover

to large areas. They can provide valuable outside

teaching, seating and eating areas, preventing

over-exposure to the sun and let’s not forget the rain!

The fabric of the shade is a high quality polyester fabric,

230 grammes per square meter. It blocks out UV rays

and is waterproof – even in the heaviest of downpours!

Opening and closing the umbrella is made easy with a

removable crank or super- quick clamp handle

mechanism. The clamp mechanism can be opened and

closed in seconds and locked securely with the supplied

padlock to protect your investment.

The umbrellas are designed to withstand winds of 22-28mph dependent on size and model.

There are two methods for fixing the umbrellas. Option 1is an Inground Sleeve System. This consists of a lowersleeve which is anchored into the concrete and lies flushwith the ground. The outer sleeve is bolted to it withtamper resistant fixings. The sleeve is then secured tothe umbrella via a double clamp and a lockable bolt(again, lock supplied). Option 2 is a portable stand. Thisis a heavy duty galvanised steel base with the same

mechanisim as the inground sleeve clamp fixingattached. Concrete slabs supplied are then used tocreate a weight to secure the umbrella into position.Around 8-24 concrete slabs are supplied alongside eachumbrella depending upon the size of the umbrella. Thebase has adjustable feet positioned in each corner tolevel the umbrella if the ground is uneven.

Optional valances can be added to the umbrellas andalso a guttering system can be provided. Please call theSales Office for a full quotation.

specifically designed for the customer's requirements.

Helmet Lockers

PLASTIC LOCKERS

Cube lockers offer individual, personal security in the

school or workplace. Ideal for external use, these cube

lockers can be stacked together or bolted on top of

other lockers for extra storage space. Available with a

cam lock (supplied with 2 keys) or a hasp and staple or

padlocking (padlock not supplied). Finish is Grey body

available with a choice of colours for the door; blue,

cream, green, grey, red or white.

All walkways and canopies are designed in accordance

to with BS5950 (Structural use of steelwork in

buildings) by an in-house drawing team.

Our designers can create a bespoke design dependent

upon our customers’ individual site requirements.

Canopies are also an excellent way to provide shade in

playgrounds, ether to cover external seating or provide

shade whilst children are queuing.

A site surveyor can attend site, free-of-charge to

measure up the area and provide a full quotation. This

can include all necessary ground works and installation

costs, if required.

On receipt of order CAD drawings will be supplied for

your approval. Once the drawings are approved this will

then go into fabrication.

The range of framework colours can be found on P??? of

the catalogue.

The roofing available for the walkways and canopies are

as follows:-

Which is supplied as standard in 5mm transparent

PET, however, is available in 5mm Opal, Smoke Grey

> Filon GRP Cladding

Filon is a Glass Reinforced Polyester (GRP) available in

a choice of Opaque or Translucent finish. This option

offers good UV resistance and is an extremely strong

cladding. It also complies with the UK Building

Regulations and BS476 Fire tests.

> Triple Wall Polycarbonate

16mm triple wall poly is available in clear, bronze and

opal. Polycarbonate carries a 10-year warranty

covering loss of light transmission and loss of strength

due to weathering.

Paisley Entrance Canopy

The Paisley Entrance Canopy offers a contemporary

yet robust design. It is manufactured with heavy

duty square hollow section legs with a solid

polycarbonate roof. It can be tailor-made to suit

your requirements.

Each Canopy/Walkway is custom-made to suit any

area or application. A free-of-charge UK site visit

is available.

The roofing sheets are 16mm triple

wall polycarbonate.
