What Are the Five Pillars of Islam?

The Five Pillars of Islam are duties which many Muslims carry out as the foundation of their Muslim life, and to live in a good and responsible way.

They play an important role in Islam, and carrying out the Five Pillars shows that Muslims put their faith before anything else.

Today we will be learning about the first pillar of Islam. Many people believe this to be the most important pillar.

The Five Pillars

Pillar One: Shahada

This pillar is the main belief of all Muslim people and it is a declaration of their faith. The English words are:

“There is no god except Allah, Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”

Muslims say this when they pray. Anyone who says these words and means it can become a Muslim.

(Declaration of Faith)

This belief is whispered to new born babies and is shouted from minarets to call Muslims to prayer.

The Shahadah is the first Pillar of Islam. Shahadah is the Declaration of Faith. So basically its TO SAY that one believes In Allah and his final Prophet.

It is something that every person must believe in order TO BE A Muslim. It is the most important pillar of all pillars.

Muslims believe you cannot be a Muslim if you don’t say and believe in the Shahadah. It is not enough to just say they believe – they MUST ACT on what they believe.

Why do you think the Shahadah is the first and most important pillar of Islam?

The Shahadah in Arabic :

‘There is no God But God and Muhammad is his messenger.’

What does it mean when it says – there is no God but God?
