3+CCSD Course Scope:This one-year course is designed to familiarize students with theatre and its purpose, structure, effectiveness, and cultural value. Class work focuses on student performance through demonstration of various acting skills. Continuous emphasis will be made to develop awareness and self-expression, to increase general knowledge of theatre, and to encourage social adjustment. This course will fulfill either the one art/humanities credit or one of the elective credits required for graduation.

4+CCSD Course Goals: To create performance through improvising scripts based on

personal experience and heritage, imagination, literature, and history.

To act by developing, communicating, and sustaining characters in improvisations and informal productions.

To interpret dramatic texts, and organize and conduct rehearsals for informal productions.

To discuss cultural and historical information in support of artistic choices.

To explore and make connections between art forms by analyzing traditional theatre, dance, music, visual arts, new art forms, and other academic disciplines.

To evaluate informal and formal theatre productions.

To distinguish the components of theatrical production including play script writing and directing.

+Grading Policy

Student grades are based on Daily Skills Practice (30%), which includes but is no limited to tech work plans, and working during class hours

Journal/Notes (15%) which includes think tanks and vocabulary

Pre-Performance/Tech hours/Quizzes (20%)

Performance Evaluation (35%) which includes but is not limited to projects, tests, peer and self evaluation of theatre department required performances.

6+Required Class Materials

-Students are required to have a composition notebook for this class.

-Students are expected to keep all course materials and notes for the duration of the semester.

-Students may write in blue or black ink or pencil in this course.

-Students are expected to come to class prepared, with all materials, daily.

8+Classroom Rules:

1. Follow directions

2. Be in class when the bell rings, seated and ready to work

3. Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself

4. Consume lots of water

5. No other drinks, food or gum are allowed in the classroom

6. Do not abuse or misuse equipment and materials.

9+Classroom Rules:

7. Consequences for Mischievous Behavior (not following classroom rules):

1. Warning

2. Held after class for 30 seconds

3. Teacher detention (notice given a day in advance)

4. Phone call home

5. Dean’s referral

8. Immediate Dean’s Referral for Severe Behavior:

1. Fighting

2. Vandalism

3. Overt Defiance

4. Stopping Class from functioning including violating safety regulations.

10+Classroom Rules:

Dress Code Regulations: Students are required to follow Liberty High School SSA policies and procedures as well as CCSD Regulation Dress Code.

Beginning and Ending of Class: Students will take assigned seats as soon as the bell rings at the beginning of each class. Reading, Vocabulary and “Think Tank” journaling will begin immediately while roll is being taken. At the end of each class please pick up around your area and dispose of any trash.

Corridor Pass Procedures: Students are not allowed to leave the room without

the instructor's permission. Restroom passes will be given only in emergencies and theatre restrooms are not allowed to be used during regular school hours.

The instructor is the only one with the authority to release students at the end of class.

11+Classroom Rules:

Phrase all criticism positively when giving feedback to other class members. In a theatre class we depend on feedback from others to improve our performance. It is essential that we work together to provide a positive learning environment.

Stay on taskObserve all safety rules whether posted or spoken.

Take your education seriously. No rough housing, fighting or goofing around.

12+General ExpectationsPlease remain in your assigned seat during Class unless otherwise instructed by the teacher.

Students are responsible for the care of the choir room. Clean up after yourself!!!

STAY INFORMED by updating your personal calendar! Listen; read all communications for updates; check the calendar; ask, if you are unsure of something. The more involved you are, the more fun theatre can become.

13+Discipline policy

1st offense: Warning/Conference with student. This will be documented by student signature and date.

2nd offense: Phone call to parent/guardian. Documented and dated.

3rd Offense: One hour detention after school. Phone call to parent/guardian. Documented day and time. No show for detention will result in a referral to the Deans’ office.

If a student causes a major disruption or blatantly breaks the school/class rules, he/she will be sent directly to the Deans’ office and parent/guardian will be notified.

+  THEATRE I REQUIRED PERFORMANCE ATTENDANCE:All Theatre I Students are required to attend at least one performance of all major LHS Productions listed

below:

If a student is unable to attend or participate in a production due to prior commitments, an alternate assignment will be given to the student after the instructor receives a note from the student's parent explaining the conflict

Required performances :“The Addams Family”-- November 12-15Student directed one-acts – Jan 8-10“The Lost Boys”-- February 19-21“Vanities” and “Stand and Deliver” – May 2015 dates TBA
