BJÖRN ULVAEUS (Music & Lyrics)was born in 1945 in Gothen-berg onthe west coast of Sweden. After asuccessful local career in Swedenwith a folk group in the mid-1960s,he started his collaboration withBenny Andersson. They then wenton to form ABBA with Agnetha Falt-skog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. Evenduring the ABBA years, the idea ofwriting a musical seemed appealing

and, in 1981, Björn and Benny metTim Rice and co-wrote Chess withhim, which opened in the West Endin 1986. In 1995 Björn and Bennyopened a new musical calledKristina Från Duvemåla, whichplayed for three years in Sweden.Their most recent musical is theStockholm production Hjälp sökes,which opened in 2013. Bjorn is one ofthe producers for Mamma Mia! TheParty,which opened in Stockholm inJanuary 2016.

Before long, he was bookingrock shows (Jefferson Starship, Rush)and other types of live entertain-ment, which eventually led to thepresenting and producing of Broad-way productions. One such showwas an appearance by the legendarymime artist, Marcel Marceau. Aspresident of Broadway Productions,Bill presented national tours such asAnnie, Amadeus, Dancin’, Peter Pan,Rocky Horror Show and Mark Twainstarring Hal Holbrook, throughoutNew England including Worcester,Springfield, Portland, Maine andBoston. Aside from his work reopen-ing Theatre By The Sea in 2007, oneof Bill’s crowning achievements wasthe 2010 purchase and re-opening ofNorth Shore Music Theatre, a land-mark 1,500 seat professional theatre,

which is entering its ninth successfulyear of operation in Beverly, MA(nsmt.org). Bill’s ongoing work withboth theatres inspires him to con-sider acquiring additional perform-ance venues at which he plans tosomeday share his productions.Throughout his career, Bill has stayedfocused on his movie theatre chainhaving bought, built, owned, oper-ated and sold more than 30 cine-mas. His company, EntertainmentCinemas, currently operates sevenmovie complexes in four states. In2009, Bill was elected President ofthe Theatre Owners of New England.Bill has been named to the NorthShore Top 100 by the North ShoreChamber of Commerce. THOM WARREN* (Associate Pro-ducer), a resident of Staten Island NY,began his association with TheatreBy The Sea as an actor playing Harrythe Horse in the 2000 production ofGuys and Dolls. He then returned in2013 to become the Company Man-ager, a position he held until 2015. In2017 he appeared as Maurice in Dis-ney’s Beauty and the Beast. A mem-ber of Actors’ Equity and SDC, he isalso a casting associate for TheatreBy The Sea. In NYC he was the Com-pany Manager for the Off-Broadwayplay Psycho Therapy. As a performer,Thom began his career with Pitts-burgh Ballet Theatre before movingon to musical comedy. Appearing inclose to 100 shows, he has per-formed at North Shore Music The-

THEATRE BY THE SEA, which is onthe National Register of HistoricPlaces, has had many incarnationsover the years. The Tyler family pur-chased the property in the early ‘20s.After Alice Tyler was left a widowwith three young children, she ranthe property as a summer camp forgirls. When the depression hit, shedecided to create jobs and provide afuture for her children by turning thebarn into a theatre. The 300-seat the-atre opened on August 7, 1933 with aproduction called Strictly Dynamite.That initial season lasted four weeksand featured four different plays, oneof which was taken to New York. In1938, a Yale Cooperative took over.Then, on September 2, a hurricanehit. The back wall of the theatrecaved in and the stage roof wasblown off. During the repairs, thetheater was expanded to include abalcony. The newly enlarged theatreoperated through 1941 and thenwent dark during the war. In 1946,the theatre’s most glamorous andstar-filled period began. The theatrebecame what is referred to as a “star-system” house opening with a showcalled Dream Girl which starred JudyHolliday. Other headliners who were

Following the1958 season, the property was sold tothe Bontecou family, who leased itsporadically for several years, and by1966 there were plans to tear downthe theatre. Upon hearing that thetheatre was to be destroyed, TommyBrent, who had previously worked asa publicist for the theatre, returnedand saved the theater from demoli-

tion. His first show opened on June23, 1967 and he ran the theatre suc-cessfully for twenty-two years. In1988, FourQuest Entertainment,which consisted of Laura Harris, (whohad previously worked at the theatrefor eleven summers), Renny Serreand Richard Ericson, came on board.Following extensive renovations,FourQuest reopened the theater inthe spring of 1989 and continuedproducing high quality summer the-
