• The “book burning” was a fruitful time for the gospel…the Lord’s word grew vv. 19-20
• This also impacted the idolatry industry• Demetrius led his co-workers into a “no small
disturbance” vv. 23-27

• Based upon Demetrius’ defense of Diana, the city was thrown into chaos vv. 28-34• Two of Paul’s companions were apprehended• Other friends of Paul convinced him efforts to
rescue them would not succeed

city in jeopardy with Rome

are open…let them use legal means• He then dismissed the assembly

for Macedonia• Specifically, he goes to Troas after leaving
Ephesus to find Titus 2 Cor 2:12-13 7:5-7• He wanted a report on how Corinth had
received the first letter

“sentence of death” in him 1:8b-9 The “Ephesian Riot” fits well Acts 19:23-41

Leaving Ephesus, Paul tried to find Titus in Troas 2:12-13
He was so focused on hearing about Corinth he did not take advantage of another “open door”…he went on into Macedonia

Later, in Macedonia, Paul did find Titus in Troas and heard what he wanted 7:5-16
The Corinthians had repented!! Apparently after this meeting with Titus,
Paul wrote the 2nd letter

Paul had sent him to Macedonia Acts 19:22 He was also to go to Corinth…Paul was not
sure if Timothy would arrive there before he did 1 Cor 4:17 16:10-11

Events Leading Up To The Epistle… Paul’s “changing traveling plans” –
He wanted to “spare” the Corinthians, giving the 1st letter time to work, “bear fruit” 1:23
This “change in plans” led some to slander Paul, trying to discredit him as “fickle”… a charge he addresses & answers 1:17-24

needy saints chs. 8-9 The Corinthians had already spent a year
gathering their funds 8:10 Paul encourages them to finish 8:11 God “loves a cheerful giver” 9:6-7

into the heart of Paul than this letter Sadly, it is a book often over-looked, or
even ignored Paul speaks often of affliction and anxiety
1:4-6, 8-10 4:8-12 11:23-28 12:7-10

into the heart of Paul than this letter More importantly, Paul speaks of the
“comfort” gained by serving God in the greatest of causes…His kingdom 1:4 2:14-17 4:6-7, 16-18 5:1-11 7:6, 13

The Epistle… Emphasizing the gospel ministry 1:1 – 7:16
God “comforts” His people 1:3-11 Used 10 times – comfort comes from
brethren, His word, the gospel work Paul is proud of the Corinthians…he knows
the feeling is mutual 1:12-14
