Space Shuttles

Space Shuttles allowed astronauts to live in space for up to two weeks to complete experiments or repairs on space equipment.

It lands like an airplane

Space Shuttles were reusable. The names of the existing shuttles are: Discovery Atlantis EndeavorUnfortunately, Challenger and Columbia

are no longer part of the fleet because they were both in accidents.

The Shuttle’s Boosters

The pair of solid rocket boosters are the first to die out and two minutes after launch they fall back to the ocean where they are collected and reused.

Payload Bay

Sometimes the Payload Bay holds objects to be delivered into space, such as satellites. Some satellites take pictures of Earth and space, others receive and send signals like television or telephone signals.
