I Contactless eID – Retrospect and Status Quo (1)
ePP market„International ID document“Very well defined and standardized
eID card market„National ID document“Hardly defined, countries might follow own interests and technical specs

eID documents are existing all over the world. In the past these were mainly passports and national ID documents, often based on paper with more or less sophisticated security features.
There was political pressure for the introduction of ePassports (ePP) in the VisaWaiver countries. Other countries started to introduce the technology as well,
For national ID cards (eNID) the political framework in the developed countries is hardly existing. No political pressure. Discussions, delays etc. are reality.

III Contactless eID – Retrospect and Status Quo (3)
VWP participants (developed countries) Changing international requirements and increasing concerns about fraud and forgery have led countries gaining security by following international standards and a political goal
• Mostly have an own state- or privately owned "State Security Printer" • Manufacturing high secure plastic cards (i.e. eNID cards)
No VWP participants (often emerging countries) Desire for increased security, but also other
motivation• Often missing of proper birth registration, hardly
any benefit of a „proper“ ID card• Stille need of Visa to travel abroad to Europe/
USA• Often do not have State Security Printer or
secure card manufacturers

Smart solution Chip integrated
Secure solution Defined by a „security profile“, the whole lifecycle is being guided by rules to ensure security. Development - Personalization needs to be done by certain rules.
For contactless inlays Mainly production environment and conditions and integration in the final product is being adressed

SMARTRAC unites three main antenna technologies under one roof
Proprietary, patent protected wire-embedding technology
An antenna is embedded into a carrier substrate using ultrasonic energy
Core competence of SMARTRAC
Etching technology
Antenna structures are etched out of a metallized carrier substrate
Advantages for eTickets and applications in ultra high frequency (UHF) range
Coil winding
The antenna is embedded into different packagings
Complementary technology for components where wire embedding and etching can not be applied
Production in Thailand, USA, Germany and Brazil
Production in Germany and Malaysia (ramp-up)
Production in Thailand and Germany
