A party of natives who had previously been on board the schooner were on shore, and assisted in caiTying water to the dingey. Suddenly the natives turned on Rickinson and Shenton, and although the latter shot one dead, both wore ultimately murdered before they could reach the boat. The natives then attacked the chinaman (who had remained in the boat), but he succeeded in escaping with a slight wound. They then ransacked the schooner, and before the remainder of the crew returned from pearl fishing, had carried off a large quantity of jirovisions, clothing, &.C.

The chinaman (Chan You) can identify several of the natives, and gives the names of three as "Charley," " Harrv," and " Daly." - '/. i-,.
