    Dear family,

During my philosophy studies, we learned that the ancient Greek

thinker, Aristotle, used to refer to God as the “unmoved mover.”

The idea is that the “buck” stops with God. He alone creates out of nothing and is Himself not affected by

anything in the created world. He initiates but can never Himself be initiated to do anything. You get the idea.

Now I am pretty sure that Our Blessed Mother never attended a university to study Aristotle, but among the

examples in today’s readings, she is by far the better philosopher and theologian! In the first reading, King David,

who certainly meant well, is given a solemn reminder by God that it is not he who takes care of God, but God

who takes care of him. Mary on the other hand is different. Yes, she is a little apprehensive, who wouldn’t be?

She certainly has some questions, who wouldn’t? But she lets God take the lead. Both persons in the end provided

a “house” for the Lord, but Mary allows God to guide the entire process as she is “overshadowed” by His pres-

ence. In no way does Mary see herself in the driver’s seat, but trustingly let’s God take the wheel. And where do

we stand? Have we made up our own minds that we are the masters of our own destiny, or do we allow God to

work through us? By virtue of the vocation we are called to, God wants to do something amazing through us and

bring His presence to shine in our lives. Will we give Him room to work, or are we so prideful so as to think

    ourselves unmoved?

In His Anticipated Joy, Fr. Daniel
