NTSA Newsletter February, 2016 of 1 6 : Fellow NTSA Shooters: Welcome to the February edition of our monthly newsletter. Well, it looks like 2015 will go in the books as a great year for NTSA. Record participation in matches, increases in shooting revenue for most all venues, no major safety violations, and no reported injuries. The match directors are getting all the matches in line and it looks like we are up for a full year. The Poker Chip benchrest match continues to be very popular, winners in December were Denny Henderson & Tim Olsterdorf shooting 34 of 40 chips. We are looking for a few new games to play; the .22 rimfire precision poker chip shoot may be a good one. The details still need to be hammered out. We may also see about shooting some ARA matches. That is a benchrest game for the .22's. The skeet program needs help and is going to get it. I want this year’s skeet program to be better and see the same good participation we had in the past. 5-Stand leagues will be starting, watch the website and newsletter for dates. Several NTSA trap shooters are in Tucson shooting the winter chain shoot, Mike Turner, Bill Stoeppel, & Russell Carpenter have all been posting high scores and winning events. The board meetings happen on the 2nd Wednesday every month. If you have any issues, or just want to see what’s going on, come on out, it starts at 6:30. Thanks, and I’ll see you on the range. Rich Hatler © Presidents Corner — Rich Hatler NEWSLETTER Hazardous Weather Awareness A recent tornado outbreak in North Texas prompted me to call this message to your attention. If you are at the NTSA and need immediate shelter, it is recommended to use the trap bunkers, the skeet houses, or finally the club restrooms to ride out a storm. Be aware of your surroundings and have a prepared plan of action. Board Votes to Follow the New Texas Open Carry Law As of January 1, 2016, holders of a Texas CHL or LTC are able to openly carry handguns in the same places that allow concealed carry with some exceptions. The NTSA adopted the following rule to address the new Texas law while on NTSA grounds. NTSA recognizes and honors Texas state law. Open carry is permitted for those members authorized by law to do so. Open carry firearms must remain holstered at all times unless in use during a live fire on a hot range. Match Directors may declare a cold range during NTSA sanctioned competitions and may prohibit open carry on ranges under a Match Directors control.

Hazardous Weather Awareness A recent tornado outbreak in North Texas prompted me to call this message to your attention. If you are at the NTSA and need immediate shelter, it is recommended to use the trap bunkers, the skeet houses, or finally the club restrooms to ride out a storm. Be aware of your surroundings and have a prepared plan of action.

Not a lot of trap this last month, the weather was a factor. In February a group of NTSA trap shooters will be competing in the Spring Grand in Tucson AZ. Several have been tuning up at the club this month so we can expect some

very high finishes at this very prestigious event. Details will be in the March newsletter.

Trap Report — Lyla Malzahn

NTSA Action Pistol Match was held Saturday, January 16th 2016. It was cold, with temperatures holding in the low 40's for the entire match.  A threat of rain loomed, but it stayed dry until shortly after the match.  We shot 5 stages in 3

squads and finished at approximately 11:30.Twenty-one shooters braved the cold, 11 members and 10 guests. I want to thank everyone for attending and all the help with setup and take-down.  Thanks to Juan M and Ron M for running squads 1 and 2.
