As designers we hold a great responsibility - to set the tone and behaviors of the general public. We provide options and education for our clients to make good choices. With all that is going on in this world we have the duty to design sustainability and responsibility. We possess the knowledge and its up to us to use it. Not only to protect the planet but to give our clients the best experience possible, even long after we have completed the project.
My design philosophy is based on values rather than aesthetics. I aim to create functional spaces the invigorate and elevate daily users. To create spaces people want to be in rather than have to be. To design not only for the peoples health but the planets as well. I believe this is our duty as designers.
“Determined to better the world, one space at a time.” -Patricia Ashleigh
Purlieu A place where one can roam at large.
How do we enjoy luxury travel without damaging the planet? How do we create a luxury resort that is also integrated into its surroundings? This is the mission of Purlieu. We aim to design an intimate eco-resort without sacrificing luxury and comfort.
Working as part of a team, I was personally responsible for the concept and HUB design.

Site Map
Located south of Mt. Hood and Government Camp in the Mt. Hood National Forest, Purlieu is a small collection of cabins and central HUB. It is also a 1/4 mile from the Pacfic Crest Trail.
The site is located on Little Crater Lake campgrounds which was a bare campsite prior.
We have designed the cabins and HUB to run on Solar and Geothermal energies.
Both systems visible to encourage visitors to learn about alternative energies. A solar road will lead them to their cabins while the large geothermal soaking pool allows them a place to relax.

The Hub Floor Plan - NTS
Biophilia:Vertical reclaimed wood slats line the wall along the running track to simulate the feeling of running through trees in a park or forest. They also act as wayfinding tool and subconsciously guide patients down the hallway toward the open gym space. Custom 3 Form Panels create a sense of privacy inside the Yoga Room but allow daylight to still enter the space from the windows across the hall.

Providing quality views was a key element carried throughout Purlieu. Wither indoors or outdoors visitors are surrounded by the natural environment.
Interior finishes were predominately natural finishes local to the area. Reclaimed walnut from the Willamette Valley makes up all the case work in the HUB. Floors move from a light, cream colored travertine to a deep onyx slate. FSC certified doug fir planks were used for decking.

Conceptual Renderings:Using Revit to model the project, views and daylighting was explored through renderings in key spaced. Large windows in the main dining room allows for framed views of the campgrounds. The glass dining room being completely surrounded by a curtain walls as well as facing south allows for daylighting to fill the space with natural light. The back porch allows for a nice place to sit down and relax while enjoying the smell of fir trees.

GAP Kids Commercial Project
The client’s space is a new office headquarters in Portland, OR for GAP Kids. The office space is meant to represent GAP Kids as a brand and house a local head-quarters with offices, work space, a conference room and training spaces as well as collaborative spaces.
The objective is to effectively space plan the office in regards to the way GAP Kids works best. As well as represent the brand through visual cues and provide the employees with an invigorating place to work. The office space will be secure from the general public as most doors will require a key card for entry as it is a shared space with other businesses.

All-American denim blue greets you at the door, while high-gloss white expands the feel of the space. Sophisticated grays house you in chairs and couches while a bright green and an icy blue provide invigorating accents for the eye.

Final Floor Plan - Modified Open - NTS
The final floor plan design for GAP Kids Portland office is a modified-open plan. It worked best for the client to provide an organized workspace and appropriate proximities between departments and their leaders. Existing furniture was utilized in the workroom, marked by the green hexagon symbol, ‘ ‘.

Workstation Electrical Plan | NTS SAYL Chair
Providing GAP Kids employees with not only fictional but comfortable workspaces was a necessary consideration.
Building a workstation from Herman Miller’s Ethospace Hive provided functionality and the ability to collaborate when it was needed. This workstation paired with Herman Millers SAYL chair make for a healthy and ergonomic workspace.

Equilibrium was born from the task to design a physical therapy office that embodied the healing elements of nature. The road to recovery through physical therapy is not easy, this space offers elements that help ease patients through biophilia.
Working as part of a team I worked to create a safe and healing environment through unique design solutions and specific FF&E selection.

Design Concept:Equilibrium Physical Therapy was inspired by the desire to connect the physical healing with the mind, body, and spirit. The office will embody this by having a yoga space, a gym area, and traditional physical therapy office elements. The finishes throughout the space will help clients feel calm and connected to nature.
Client Needs:• Emphasis on healing patterns• Unique wayfinding and signage• Safe and stress-easing environment• Soft hues and finishes with minimal pattern/texture

Deceit Furniture Design
Inspired by display cases you would find in a high-end jewelry store, Deceit is a small credenza meant to display your favorite treasures. And while it allows the viewer to think that they can see everything housed within it, only the owner knows of its hidden secrets.
Deceit does not only hide your valuables but it is also a master of illusion in its craft. Born from a 4’ x 8’ sheet of simple plywood, the credenza is given an elevated aesthetic with a rich walnut stain, a glass top and a pair of brushed brass legs. Simple joinery blends together to create a modestly beautiful case good.
