Modern skyscrapers, including the Petronas Twin Towers and KL Tower dominate the skyline whilst below, elegant and gracious colonial buildings, quaint shophouses and hawker stalls compete with modern shopping complexes. Once a Hill Station for the British wishing to escape the heat, the Cameron Highlands is now where farmers grow half the vegetables eaten in Malaysia – and a lasting legacy of the Empire is the region’s reputation for growing strawberries year round. And above the green carpets of tea plantations is Gunung Brinchang, 2032m above sea level surrounded by cloud forest, and the start of many walking trails.

The World Heritage listed Melaka (Malacca) was conquered by the Portuguese in 1511 and both the Dutch & English occupied the city before it was handed back to the Malays in 1957. All had a hand in its architecture – from auburn red coloured churches to the rows of Chinese shop houses that fl ank the Straits of Malacca.
