What Are Correctives To Us?

We believe that our method of corrective action has students take responsibility & ownership of their learning

Correctives are having students look at the mistakes they have made and then embrace those mistakes

What Is Corrective Action? According to the Business Dictionary (2014),

corrective action is an “identification and elimination of the causes of a problem, thus preventing their recurrence.”

According to the American Society for Quality (2014), corrective action is “a solution meant to reduce or eliminate an identified problem.”

Why Correctives Are Important To Our Students

We believe, correctives are important because most kids don't learn by just listening or watching us, they learn by doing it themselves.

In order to be successful in life, students must know how to learn from their mistakes. Then by doing things differently, and hopefully correctly, students can truly learn and be successful in anything they attempt in life.

Why Are Correctives Important? Based on the scientific method of Francis Bacon

(Novum Organum, 1620). The scientific method can be written as "hypothesis"–"experiment"–"evaluation" or plan, do and check.

According to Moen & Norman (2011), “A fundamental principle of the scientific method is iteration—once a hypothesis is confirmed (or negated), executing the cycle again will extend the knowledge further. Repeating the cycle can bring us closer to the goal, usually a perfect operation and output.”

How Do We Do It?

Homework contract - “The Rules”______ Corrections are considered to be part of my homework. Not having them completed by the start of class on the day they are due will result in mandatory AR (unless other arrangements have been made prior to the start of class)

______ Homework corrections need to be done in a bright color so they are easy to read. Yellow highlighter is not easy to read.

______ Homework corrections are not considered to be complete until all incorrect answers have been corrected, INCLUDING SHOWING WORK, on how to complete the question correctly
