early childhood was mostly very pleasant. Mary Theresa Eleanor Higgins was born on December 24, 1927 in the Bronx, New York. Her father Luke Higgins was an Irish immigrant and so was his wife Nora. Higgins Clark has an older brother Joseph and a younger brother Johnny. She composed her first poem when she was six years old and would create short plays for her friends so they could act them out together. When she was seven years old she started a daily journal. Her family owned an Irish pub. When Mary Higgins Clark was about ten her family started to have financial trouble because their customers were not able to pay their tabs.
