Some time later, the kingscupbearer offended the king. Theking of Egypt was angry andthrew the cupbearer in jail.
One night thecupbearer had adream and told Josephabout it. He said, Inthe dream I saw agrapevine with three
branches. I had thekings cup in my hand,so I took some grapes,squeezed the juice intothe cup and then gave
the cup to the king.Joseph told the
cupbearer, The threebranches are three days. Afterthree days, the king will free youfrom prison and give you back
your job.

After three days, Pharaohreleased the cupbearer andgave him back his position.However, the cupbearertotally forgot about Joseph.

Two years later, Pharaoh had a
dream. In his dream, he saw seven
fat cows
grazing by the
river. Thenseven skinny
cows came to
the rivers
shore. The
seven skinnycows then ate
up the fat
cows!
Pharaoh
called all themagicians and
wise men in
Egypt. But no one could tell him
what the dream meant.

The cupbearer thenremembered Joseph inprison and told the kingabout him.
The king commanded
that Joseph be brought tohim.

Joseph told the king, Your Majesty,
God has shown you what He is going todo. There will be seven years of plenty
followed by seven years of famine. Thefamine will be so bad that the years of
plenty will be totally forgotten.The king not only released Joseph from
prison but also made him prime minister,
the second in command over all Egypt.

During the seven years of
plenty, Joseph gathered and storedall the extra grain.
Then the seven years of faminebegan, just as Joseph hadpredicted. Joseph opened thestorehouses and sold the grain tothe Egyptians. People from othercountries also came to buy grain,
because the famine hit everywhere.

came to Egypt to buy grain.They did not recognizeJoseph, but Joseph
recognized them.Joseph gave the order
for their bags to be filled withgrain. The brothers loadedthe bags on their donkeys
and returned home.

The brotherswent to Egyptand presentedthemselves toJoseph as they
had done before.This time,
Joseph toldthem, I am

brother, who yousold to theEgyptians. The
brothers were so surprised that theydid not know what to say!

ahead of you to save you.Jacob and Joseph's older
brothers moved to Egypt andJoseph provided food for hisentire family.
