OUR PROCESS
1. All transmissions and differentials are cleaned and then completely disassembled.
2. After disassembly, each unit is then cleaned again in a heated pressure-wash system and then completely dried.
3. After the secondary wash, every component is thoroughly inspected. All bearings, races, seals, friction material components (synchronizers, clutch plates, etc.) and hoses are discarded. Any castings or gearing that do not meet OEM specifications are discarded.
4. All parts are then replaced with OEM or equivalent components.
5. All cases are cleaned then painted.
6. Any updates are performed on the individual unit at this time to insure that it meets the latest OEM specifications.
7. The unit is then completely reassembled and visually inspected and manually tested for proper tolerances and function.
8. All units are tagged with a model number, ratio if applicable, and a serial number.
9. After manual testing, all manual and automatic transmissions are then fully tested on a dynamometer under load and at operating temperature. A final inspection is made to ensure a high-quality appearance.
10. All applicable component protection devices and warning labels are installed, and the unit is then appropriately packaged for shipment.

CORE POLICY
CORE RETURN POLICY
• The core should be returned on the pallet originally received with the replacement unit. Properly secure the unit to the pallet. Any damage to the core during shipping due to poor packaging will be reflected in deductions from the core credit.
• Credits for the returned cores will be issued to the original purchaser.
• Cores that are returned that have not been completely drained of oil will receive a deduction of ten (10) percent of the full core value.
EVALUATION
Cores that are returned in an unusable condition will not be accepted or processed for credit. By not processing for credit, the customer does not lose return eligibility. However, the customer will be responsible for freight charges associated with the return of an unusable core. The following are examples of unusable conditions:
• Full of tar (i.e. synthetic and mineral oil mixture)• Gears that are blue or burned due to lack of lubrication• Excessive rust that causes pitting and damage• Missing internal parts (due to physical removal, not failures)• Cases or housings that are cracked, broken or bulging• A disassembled core with missing parts
No core credit will be issued for cores returned in unusable condition. Customers will be charged back freight costs for cores that are submitted in an unusable condition.
CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Confirm the model of the core you are returning. Cores must be “like for like” unless prior arrangements have been made.
2. Make a thorough inspection for visible cracks, especially in the high stress areas of the cases.
3. We recommend removing the top cover/shift-bar housing on transmissions to inspect the internal components. We will remove the top cover during our inspection. To avoid the deduction for disassembly or missing parts, the top cover must be reattached to the transmission in such a manner as to avoid part damage or loss during shipping.
4. Make sure the unit is complete.
5. Make sure to remove and transfer to your replacement unit, all other external equipment not supplied (i.e. yokes, shift-tower, PTOs,bell housing, etc...)
You will be notified by phone if any core returned is unacceptable or if there are deductions to the full core credit based on our criteria. Any cores deemed unacceptable may be returned to you F.O.B. Chicago at your discretion.
Cores are processed daily and credits will be applied to your account within 5 business day after arrival on our dock. Cores returned without the proper core tag are subject to delays in this process.

Heavy-Duty Transmission Core Return Procedures
General Policies
All cores should be returned freight collect within 12 monthsof purchase to the designated Eaton core return location.(See map, page 14.)Warranty units must be returned to the designated locationwith completed return documentation. (See page 14 forshipping addresses.)The value of the transmission cores returned must be equalto or less than the core value of the unit purchased. Customerwill receive core value of unit returned. See core groups listedon this page. Cores cannot be “banked” or returned in excessof units purchased. In summary:• Only one core can be returned for every one transmission
purchased having a core charge.• The value of the core returned must be equal to or less
than the core value (core group) of the transmissionpurchased.
If possible, return the core with the pallet and/or originalcontainer received with the unit, and properly secure the coreto the pallet. Damage in shipment due to negligence in pack-aging will be the responsibility of the dealer. When returning a non-warranty core, use the OEMs coreconsolidator or ship the core 3rd Party Eaton to the designat-ed Eaton core return location using an Eaton approved freightcarrier identified within the purchased unit’s core returnpacket. Use of any freight carrier other than those approvedwill result in $100 being deducted from core credit.Determining Acceptability of a Core:
The dealer must remove the shift bar housing to properlyinspect the core to determine if the core is acceptable. Noother disassembly is required. Cores must be returned inassembled condition.
Cores returned in the following condition are unacceptableand will be returned to the dealer freight collect or scrapped.1. Internal Rust (see Figure 1, right)2. Missing parts such as Shift Bar Housing or Range Section.3. Core that cannot be completely drained because the oil
has gelled, hardened or turned to “tar”(see Figure 2, right)4. Three or more housings cracked (see Figure 3, right)Freight charges for a second core returned to replace an unac-ceptable core if permitted, are the responsibility of the dealer.Questions on core credits should be directed to your OEM.Do not call regarding core credits.
The following instructions are necessary to conductproper evaluation of cores. Steam cleaning, which isrecommended by Eaton prior to returning the core, should precede the evaluation to allow a more thoroughand accurate inspection.
Transmission Core Evaluation
1. Determine the core model. Transmission cores with mis-matched front and auxiliary sections assume the core value of the lesser model.
2. Make a thorough external inspection for visible cracks. Look closely at highly stressed areas around capscrew holes, rear transmission support studs, etc.
3. Verify that the core is complete. Warranty cores do not need to be assembled. Required items include; main case and range section, shift bar housing, and all internalcomponents.
4. Remove and retain other external equipment andaccessories.
5. See page 9 for instructions on how to locate eligiblemodels online.
6. All transmissions with a core value are assigned to groups based upon the core value of the units.
7. Lightning core credit will only be issued against acorresponding Lightning transmission purchase or an Eaton approved Lightning transmission conversion.
Core Groups
300 1000 1500 2200 3000 4000With each purchase of a transmission, core eligibility will beapplied against a specific core group of equal value to the corecharged. When the OEM/dealer returns a core, eligibility will bechecked against the core group for the value of the corereturned. If eligibility exists within that group, core credit willbe applied equal to the core value of the unit returned, minusany deductions. If the OEM does not have eligibility within thecore group, the core will be returned, freight collect, scrappedor offer to purchase (if preauthorized). Transmission Core Deductions
- One or two broken, cracked or welded housings* $225- Failure to completely drain $100- Failure to use approved freight carriers $100
for returned core- Missing serial tag $100- Missing air module $100*If three or more broken, cracked or welded housings, core isunacceptable. Do not return for credit.Unacceptable Cores
Figure 1: Rust Figure 2: Gelled Lube Figure 3: Cracked Case
GTP recommends steam cleaning the core prior to inspection for proper evaluation. A clean core will allow your inspector to identifycracks that may not have been noticeable when dirty.
6. Please attach the core tag that was shipped with the unit and make sure that it is thoroughly completed with the proper information.

Ring Gear & Pinion IdentificationDana has highly developed primary axle gearing which is only used in matched sets. These sets are identified by the mating parts listed below.Within any Dana production drive axle or genuine Spicer® Gear & Pinion service kits, these mated part numbers will appear. Because they aredeveloped as a set with precision machining, never mix gears and pinions from different mated sets within an axle. Shortened gearing life, noise and failure may occur. Always use genuine Spicer® products.
• Ring Gear and Drive Pinion are matched parts and must be replaced in sets
• Complete Identification is stamped on both parts as shown on the drawing below.
• All Service Gear sets include ABS option cutout on ring gear. Tone rings are sold seperately.
• ABS is only designed to work in the following ratios: 4:30, 4:88 & 5:38.
