CONTENTSOver the years, we’ve steadily honed and refined our luthieryskills. We’ve pioneered new designs and production techniquesto guarantee class-leading instruments of sublime quality. Andnow here in 2005, our product range is more expansive anddiverse than ever before, giving you far greater choice.

But do take some time thinking about the sort of instrumentyou need. What will work best for you will depend upon anumber of factors, such as the type of music you play andwhere you play it. For example, the rich powerful delivery ofa Nashville electro-acoustic with the new CoolTube preampwould be ideal for a gigging and recording guitarist playingmodern rock. By contrast, the warm tonal delicacy of thesmaller bodied, cedar-topped Takamine AN45 SuperNatural, might better suit the solo fingerstyle exponent playing fortheir own enjoyment. But these are far from hard and fastrules. The best thing you can possibly do as part of your decision making process is spend some quality time withyour nearest Takamine specialist.

Audition the ranges – listen to the difference between spruceand cedar soundboards, but bear in mind that spruce typicallytakes longer to ‘play in’ than cedar. See how different bodystyles feel to hold. Plug in a couple of electro-acoustics and putthe preamps through their paces. Then, look carefully at thedifferent range of finishes we offer – in short, use all your senses to help you decide.

One thing you can take for granted is that all Takamine guitarsare finished to an exceptionally high standard. Examine thefretting, the componentry, the finish – inside and out. It doesn’t matter which Takamine you choose, we promise to giveyou the highest quality instrument we can within your budget.

Invest some time now seeking out the guitar that’s right for you and you’ll reap the rewards for years to come. Wereckon there’s a good chance the guitar you’ll settle downwith will have Takamine on the headstock.

Enjoy the journey.

THE ART OF INNOVATIONB R I N G I T T O L I F E

The Takamine story started four decades ago in the town

of Sakashita, Japan, with a small group of luthiers crafting

modest numbers of high quality acoustic guitars following

established designs and using traditional methods. Forty

years on, and Takamine guitars are cherished by thousands

of players the world over and championed by some of the

most talented and celebrated musicians on the planet.

And in this time we’ve introduced technological innovations in orderto meet the needs of musicians who are themselves constantlypushing the boundaries of acoustic music. In this, dedicated UKbrochure, we showcase the skill and technical expertise of ourcraftsmen in some of the best instruments we’ve ever made – bothacoustic and acoustic-electric. To this day, our Japanese guitars arestill for the most part, assembled and finished by hand. Carefullyselected tone woods are stacked, turned and gently seasoned formany months in precisely controlled atmospheric conditions beforeuse. We check guitar tops for resonance, grain and quality, whiledifferent levels of flexibility are compensated for by subtly varyingthe dimensions of the bracing. And whilst we’ve always held the traditional skills of the luthier in the highest esteem, we’ve neverbeen afraid to advance the art of guitar building by embracing newtechnology and ideas.

It was way back in 1978 when we introduced acoustic-electric guitars suitable for high-power amplification into the marketplace –and musicians everywhere simply couldn’t wait to get their hands onthem. These guitars incorporated the first incarnation of the now

legendary palathetic pickup, which set the standard for the industry.Unlike the retro-fit pickups used by other manufacturers, our pickupis an integral part of the bridge assembly, collecting both string andsoundboard information. Now in its latest state-of-the-art form, itcontinues to be highly revered by the acoustic guitar connoisseurs.

And in 2004, we achieved another industry first when we partneredour famous pickup with an on-board preamp system having a vacuum tube at its heart. The exalted CoolTube preamp delivers adegree of warm acoustic tonality that was previously only attainablewith a perfectly placed esoteric valve mic, in a studio environment.

But these are just two innovations of many that Takamine has developed in pursuance of the ultimate amplified acoustic tone, andwe’re still very much on the case. We don’t think anyone has mas-tered the art of blending the skill of the luthier with groundbreakingtechnology as consummately and effectively as we have. But don’ttake our word for it, try one for yourself and we’re sure you’ll agreethat Takamine amplified acoustic guitars are without equal.

1962A small family business located at the base

of Takamine mountain, starts making fine, handcrafted acoustic guitars.

1968Mr Mass Hirade joins the company heading updesign and production, and shortly thereafter,

introduces the first Takamine world-class‘Classical’ guitar.

1975The company begins overseas trading as a

result of Takamine’s rapidly growing reputation.

1978Takamine introduces its eagerly anticipated

acoustic-electric guitars featuring the stunning new palathetic pickups.

1986The first Natural Series guitar is launched and

receives plaudits the world over.

1987Takamine introduces its first Limited Edition

model to celebrate 25 years of master luthiery.

1988The Takamine Parametric EQ preamp is launched

and immediately becomes the standard by which others are judged.

1989Takamine develop the replaceable preamp package

system featuring the innovative external battery box.

1994Takamine pioneer the use of lasers to enable

stunningly intricate and precise inlays.

2004Launch of the revolutionary CoolTube preamp,

providing the warmest amplified acoustic tones yet.

Complementing the carefully crafted tone woods is the exceptional CoolTube preamp, which does an exemplary job ofinterpreting every sonic detail with astounding naturalness. So whether you’re playing live on stage or acoustically in thesolitude of your own special place, the ’05 Limited makes the perfect companion. We’re only making a small number ofthese unique instruments, so don’t delay in contacting your nearest Takamine specialist to audition one.

The tops are of hand-selected, ‘bear claw’ spruce, a beautiful, naturally occurringrippling pattern in the grain creating an eye-catching shimmering effect. It iswidely acknowledged amongst luthiers that the sought-after bear claw figuringsignifies that the wood is more mature and of a superior quality. Having passed a visual inspection, craftsmen will tap each piece of wood in turn to assess itsresonance and acoustic response before making the final selection.

The Nashvilles come with either solid bookmatched Indian rosewood or mahoganyback and sides. Each has its own distinctive tonal signature, so take time out toplay and listen to both versions. Ebony is used for the fingerboards which aretopped with nickel silver frets. These are levelled and finished by hand for perfectplayability and intonation.

Despite their obvious heritage, these top-end instruments are far more than different takes on a classic style. The Nashvilles come complete with the revolutionary CoolTube preamp, bringing harmonic depth and richness to youramplified tone that you won’t get from any other electro-acoustic guitar*.

So if you’re looking for a rich, powerful and open acoustic tone with visual presence to match, then you need look no further than the Takamine Nashvilles.

* The Nashvilles are available in pure acoustic form too. See pages 16/17.

EASTERN ART. Bookmatched rosewood or mahogany backs.

You can specify your SuperNatural with either a solid spruce or solid cedar sound-board. The spruce-topped version delivers a rich, bright tonality that rewards eventhe most forceful playing – and what’s more, the sound will improve with age andregular use. The honey-coloured cedar models possess an alltogether darker, more luxuriant tone with a rounder bottom end making them the perfect choicefor fingerpicking.

Both the spruce and cedar models benefit from hand-scalloped X-bracing whichwe fine-tune to suit the characteristics of the different soundboard materials. The backs and sides are of beautiful bookmatched rosewood, chosen to comple-ment the inherent tone signature of the tops. The solid backs are braced to control bottom end response and maximise projection.

The SuperNatural Series does much more than pay homage to the master luthier. These truly are vintage instruments of the 21st century featuring technical innovations that have made Takamine famous. The acoustic-electrics*come equipped with our palathetic bridge pickup linked to the CoolTube preamp. This combination captures even the finest sonic nuance, delivering a warm, clear amplified acoustic tone that is simply breathtaking.

* We produce pure acoustic versions of the SuperNaturals too. See pages 16/17 for more information.

The SuperNatural – a little bit of guitar history in the making.

SUPERNATURAL HISTORY.Everything about our SuperNatural Series exudes world-class pedigree, from the beautifully understated styling to breathtaking vintage tone. None of which should come as any surprise giventhat we’ve spent the last 40 years perfecting the art of designing and building outstanding acoustic guitars. And the SuperNaturals are truly outstanding because of the time, materials and knowledgewe put into them.

The Takamine Natural is the quintessential acoustic, painstakingly assembledusing the finest materials and with ornamentation kept to the minimum. We evendecided against a pickguard to allow the soundboard greater freedom to vibrate, thereby generating richer tone and providing longer sustain.

PLAY THE FIELD.With the G-Series, we’ve developed a range of guitars to suit a diversity of applications. They come in different body sizes and shapes so you’re bound to find one that sounds right for your playing style. Pick up one of our smaller-bodied instruments such as the OM, NEX and FXC and see how comfortable they are to hold. The OM body style delivers a beautifully balanced tone with a slightly more pronounced midrange when compared to a dreadnought. And the thin profile version of the FXC makes it more resistant to feedback in higher volumeenvironments. So you can see that choosing your next acoustic guitar demands serious thought, but put yourself in the hands of a Takamine specialist and it’ll be incredibly good fun and highly gratifying.

1. CTP1 COOL-TUBEWith the launch of the groundbreaking CoolTube preamp, we once again demon-strate our talent for innovation. In the quest for the ultimate amplified acoustictone, we took the bold step of building a vacuum tube preamp into an instrumentcrafted from delicate tone woods. Following two years of research and develop-ment, the CTP-1 has arrived, providing tone with the organic warmth only previously achievable with a perfectly placed tube mic in a studio environment.

The low-voltage, low-temperature 12AU7 vacuum tube brings harmonic depth, richness and subtlety to your amplified tone that you simply won’t get from anyother electro-acoustic guitar. The preamp’s EQ, blend control and an input for an additional magnetic pickup, expand the sonic possibilities even further.

The CoolTube preamp is now available in our celebrated ‘05 Limited Edition, Nashville,Supernatural, Santa Fe and Classical models, so make a date to visit your localTakamine retailer and prepare to hear the warmest amplified acoustic tones yet.

2. CT4BIIThe CT4BII is a wonderfully warm-sounding preamp possessing a 3-band graphicequalizer. It also features an extremely stable and accurate chromatic tuner making it perfect for non-standard and open tunings.

3. ACOUSTIC DSP (DSP1) This is the first onboard digital preamp for acoustic guitar and features para-metric EQ, a chromatic tuner plus a digital reverb for an almost unlimited rangeof sounds and effects with which to add ambience to your performance – it caneven memorise your favourite effects settings. A feedback absorber and muteswitch are also built in.

4. TRIAX We are delighted to introduce our very first add-on acoustic guitar pickup – the brand new Takamine TRI-AX.

We teamed up with acoustic amplification specialists Lloyd Baggs, to produce ournew pickup – a tri-axial dynamic body sensing, soundhole-mounted unit, systemmatched to the CTP-1 CoolTube preamp. When feeding the CTP-1 auxiliary input, the TRI-AX gives the player a greatly expanded palette of tonal possibilities.

The TRI-AX also produces excellent results when used as a stand-alone pickup onany good quality acoustic guitar, and delivers unsurpassed levels of realism andfidelity. The TRI-AX can function either passively or actively, and features a volumecontrol in active mode.

OM | JUMBO | CLASSIC |

The most popular body shape of the past half century, the Dreadnought covers a lot of acousticguitar bases. With a strong low end and plenty ofvolume, its original purpose was to be the drivingforce in a bluegrass band.

Length 20 1/16" (51cm) Depth 4 15/16" (12.5cm)

Upper bout 11 1/8" (30cm) Lower bout 15 3/4" (40cm)

This original Takamine body is a scaled downJumbo at heart. Not as bassy as a Dreadnought, the NEX has a silky balance to the tone that provides superb support to vocals. Thesinger/songwriter’s favorite.

Length 20 1/16" (51cm) Depth 4 5/16" (11cm)

Upper bout 11 1/4" (28.5cm) Lower bout 15 3/4" (40cm)

The FXC is a great acoustic for an electric band. The smaller and thinner body (there’s even a thinline version) rejects feedback while providing a true and warm acoustic tone.

Length 19 1/8" (48.5cm) Depth 4" (10cm) or 2 1/2" (6.5cm)

Upper bout 11" (28cm) Lower bout 14 3/4" (37.5cm)

In the late 1920s the guitar was being incorpo-rated into many styles of music and the OM orOrchestra Model shape came into being. Thisclassic shape, with its strong lower midrange, is enjoying a resurgence.

Length 19 1/2" (49.5cm) Depth 4 1/4" (11cm)

Upper bout 11" (28cm) Lower bout 15 3/8" (39cm)

The biggest body we make, the jumbo excels as a rhythm guitar. Chords are big and meaty, withthe broad lower bout delivering plenty of volume. While the overall tone is deep, the balance is outstanding.

Length 20 7/8" (53cm) Depth 4 15/16" (12.5cm)

Upper bout 12 9/16" (32cm) Lower bout 17 1/8" (43.5cm)

The classic guitar was defined over 150 yearsago and Takamine respects the classic tradition. In combination with the fan bracing, the bodyshape delivers a clear tone and a strong distinctive voice.
