India Smart Utility Week 2019The 05th Edition of India Smart Grid Week, rechristened as India Smart Utility Week (ISUW), the five-day long international conference and exhibition was held in New Delhi from 12 – 16 March 2019 which was attended by over 1800 eminent experts from around the world. The event was inaugurated by AK Bhalla, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India. Other dignitaries present at the inaugural ceremony were Richard Schomberg, IEC Ambassador; HE Tomasz Kozlowski, Ambassador of the European Union to India; HE Alexandre Ziegler, Ambassador of France to India; Praveer Sinha, MD & CEO, Tata Power Company Limited; Ravi P Singh, CMD (In-charge), Power Grid Corporation of India Limited; Takashi Omote, Executive Director, NEDO, Japan; Pitamber Shivnani, President, Powergrid Division, ABB India; Ganesh Natarajan, Founder and Chairman, 5F World; Debasish Banerjee, MD, CESC, Kolkata; Karin Widegren, Chairperson, ISGAN and RejiKumar Pillai, President ISGF and Chairman GSGF.

ISUW 2019 witnessed 377 presentations/speeches by 288 experts from 41 countries. The event offered an excellent platform for Utility Leaders, Regulators, Government Officials and Technology Providers for networking and experience sharing with their peers from around the globe. The event held at Manekshaw Center in New Delhi was supported by Ministries of Power, New and Renewable Energy, Science and Technology, External Affairs, Heavy Industries, Environment, Forest and Climate Change; Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation; and Institutions such as IEC, CIGRE, ISGAN, WWF, IEEE, Korea Smart Grid Association, Global Smart Grid Federation, TERI, Skill India, CII, CEEW, PhD Chamber of Commerce, CBIP, CIGRE India and many more.

From India 400+ senior officers from utilities, regulatory commissions and government departments converged to discuss on the latest developments, trends and technologies related to Cyber Secure Energy Transition and Utility Transformation. Key themes of ISUW 2019 were digitalization, mainstreaming renewables, energy storage and mobility transition. Several top-notch experts on these subjects delivered keynote addresses at ISUW 2019. Parallel workshops on variety of topics such as (i) Blockchain for Utilities organized in collaboration with Energy Web Foundation and Energy Blockchain Consortium, (ii) Future Skills 2030 – Skilling for Jobs in 2030 organized in collaboration with Indian School of Business, CII and Skill Council for Green Jobs, (iii) Results of Smart Grid Projects organized in collaboration with NEDO, Japan and NSGM. (iv) Power Market Design organized in collaboration with European Commission and the Florence School of Regulations, (v) Advance Microgrids organized in collaboration with US Department of Energy, (vi) a high level roundtable of grid operators from ASEAN, SAARC/BIMSTEC and GCC regions on Interconnection of Regional Grids in Asia – ASEAN GRID, SAARC/BIMSTEC GRID and GCC GRID attracted large participation. There were full day sessions on Water and Gas Distribution. In addition, three bilateral Smart Grid workshops were held with France, US and the European Commission to facilitate experience sharing, project partnerships, collaboration and knowledge dissemination. For the first time ISGF conducted a roundtable of women in energy in partnership with C3E and IEA to discuss the challenges faced by women and actions required to achieve gender equality in the energy sector in this era of energy transition and digitalisation.

About ISUW 2020

ISGF has been organising its flagship annual event, India Smart Grid Week (ISGW) since 2015 and it is considered as one of the top five international events on Smart Grids and Smart Cities

With launching of 100 smart city projects by the Government of India, water and city gas distribution utilities will also need to equip themselves with latest technologies for improved operational efficiency and successful integration into the smart city systems. However, lack of effective policy and regulations both at the central and state level along with inadequate safety guidelines, standards, business models act as barriers for its growth. Henceforth in order to address all the challenges and to discuss future technologies and opportunities, we have transformed the India Smart Grid Week (ISGW) to India Smart Utility Week (ISUW) in 2019.

From the overwhelming feedbacks we received, ISUW 2019 was an astounding success, attended by over 1800 + delegates and 288 speakers from 41 countries.

Moving forward we are happy to announce that we have finalised 03 – 07 March 2020 as the dates for ISUW 2020.

ISUW 2020 will be organised as an International Conference and Exhibition on Smart Energy and Water for Smarter Cities. ISUW 2020 will bring together India’s leading Electricity, Gas and Water Utilities, Policy Makers, Regulators, Investors and world’s top-notch Smart Energy Experts and Researchers to discuss trends, share best practices and showcase next generation technologies and products in smart energy and smart cities domains. ISUW 2020 will include plenaries, interactive workshops, keynotes, and technical sessions.
