If player gets ejected make sure that you tell your on-site supervisor immediately

Forfeits◦ 2 forfeits in one season drops that team from further

competition◦ A 5 minute grace period will be given if a team does not

have enough people at game time (1 person must be signed in)

◦ 1 points will be given to the other team for every minute that is used (Forfeit score is 5-0)

Defaults◦ Any team can call the Intramural Graduate Assistant office

(x4095) to default a game◦ Count as a loss but do not affect playoff status◦ Defaults must be called in before 2pm on the day of the

game or 2pm on Friday for Sunday games

Jewelry◦NO Jewelry is allowed◦Captain’s will be given a warning before the

game◦Any player caught with jewelry during the

game will receive a 2 minute illegal equipment penalty

◦After the illegal equipment penalty is given, if anyone else on either team is caught with jewelry on they will be ejected and the game will be forfeited

Player Equipment◦ FULL Mouth Guards- No mouth guard= 2 min illegal

equipment penalty (must be in mouth completely) Required

◦ No Pockets◦ No Bandanas◦ No cut-offs or tank tops◦ Shirts must have a number◦ Must wear athletic footwear – no 5 finger toes shoes,

chucks, or Sperry shoes

Goalie’s Equipment◦ In order to have goalie privileges, a player MUST

have: Chest Protector (provided) Face Mask or Helmet (provided) Goalie Pads (provided) A Goalie Stick (provided) A baseball glove (provide own)

◦ Players with own equipment must get it approved by myself, Don, or Hollie Illegal equipment unless noted otherwise

3- 12 minute periods- Clock stops on all whistles in last 2 minutes of each period

5 on 5- 4 floor players and a goalie Must have at least 4 people present to play

◦ 3 on floor, 1 goalie Each team gets 1, 30 second time-out per period

◦ Doesn’t carry over Game starts with a face-off Mercy Rule

◦ If a team is up by 6 goals or more at the 7 minutes or less in the 3rd period, the game will end.

Puck Movement◦ Puck may be advanced by using stick◦ Hands may be used only to catch and drop the ball

straight down. Any advancement, movement, or covering of the ball with the hands is considered a violation, causing a face off.

◦ Goalies can throw sideways or forward, but not passed the first white line (face-off)

◦ Goals can only be scored with stick, deflections are fine but cannot be intentional

◦ Players may kick the ball to advance it, but a goal may NOT be scored off it.

◦ 3 line rule!!!

Puck In Play◦ Always in play unless it goes onto the bench, hits

ceiling, or gets caught in net◦ If a ball hits the ceiling without a deflection it’s a

delay of game penalty◦ A ball which lodges on top of the net will result in a

face-off from the nearest face-off circle Scoring

◦ Goal is scored when the ENTIRE ball crosses the goal line

◦ Players may kick the ball/puck to advance it, but a goal may NOT be scored off it.

Crease Play◦ No part of any offensive player may break the

plane of the crease- violation results in faceoff at center

◦ No goal will be counted if offensive player goes into crease

High sticking When a player raises his stick above his waist and contacts the puck or another player

Slashing If a player swings his stick at another player hard and intentionally

Unsportsmanlike Conduct A player gets a penalty if they:◦ Argue or challenge a referee’s decision

or penalty call◦ Deliberately throw any piece of

equipment outside of the playing surface or knock the puck out of the way of a referee retrieving it

◦ Use profane or abusive language towards any player or referee

◦ There are many different ways a player can receive an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty, including swearing, inappropriate gestures and even for Diving/flopping.

Cross-checking To hold your stick with both hands across your chest and push out, striking another player with the shaft of your stick. This is a minor penalty.

Hooking When a player holds another player with his stick and tugs and holds him with his stick

Tripping When a player uses his stick or a part of his body to knock the legs from under an opposing player or cause him to fall

Boarding When a player body checks another player and causes them to be thrown against the boards

Holding When a player grabs on to another player and doesn’t let go for more than three seconds

*The 5th box related penalty recorded in a period will result in a penalty shot for the opposing team. Whether or not the opposing team scores on the penalty shot, the player committing the penalty must serve the 2/5 minute penalty. The only way that person will be released from the box is if the opposing team scores once play has resumed.

Substitutions◦ On the fly◦ Must wait till player reaches the bench◦ Teams switch sides every period◦ Officials need to be informed before goalie changes are

made◦ A team with an ejected player plays down for 10 minutes

Overtime◦ If a game is tied after regulation time expires a best of 5

shoot-out will occur. Teams will alternate shots.◦ The supervisor will meet with each team captain and do

rock, paper, scissors to determine who will shoot first.
