IUCN hosted the World Parks Congress 2014 in Sydney, Australia, with the generous support of Australia and the State of New South Wales. It generated the Promise of Sydney, to scale up protection, especially in the oceans, and involve all of those who govern and manage the world’s protected and conserved areas; to inspire all people

to experience the wonder of nature through protected areas; and to invest in nature’s solutions to halt biodiversity loss, mitigate and respond to climate change, reduce the risk and impact of disasters, improve food and water security, and promote human health and dignity.
