Rationalizers have the opportunity to organize this year’s exhibition IWIS which presented innovative solutions from more than 80 scientific entities (research institutes, colleges, and universities). The International Jury awarded the exhibitors for their inventions with the following medals: platinum, gold, silver, and bronze. and bronze. In addition, the exhibitors have received a number of special awards to the individuals and organizations that participated in this year’s exhibition. The main task of the International Exhibition of Inventions IWIS is to present achievements of polish scientists and inventors to national and foreign entrepreneurs and institutions. This creates the opportunity to establish commercial contracts for the implementation of innovations to the industry, which

will have a contribution to the growth of the polish economy. Another important aim of IWIS is to promote innovative attitude and innovation-based perception of the world among young people, what can be the motor for taking on new challenges. The Opening Ceremony of the 13th International Warsaw Invention Show IWIS 2019 was accompanied by Rector of Warsaw University of Technology prof. Stanisław Wincenciak, minister Piotr Ziółkowski from Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the President of the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations Mr. Alireza Rastegar. task to select the best solution, each of them presented very high substantive and technological level. Finally, Grand Prix IWIS 2019 went to Oil and Gas Institute – National Research Institute from Poland for “A biocidal-stabilising composition for biofuels”. The invention subject consists of a biocidal – stabilizing composition for biofuels, in particular for fatty acids methyl esters as a biocomponent to the diesel oil or an independent alternative fuel to the diesel oil. It is known that biofuel storage and distribution conditions increase its susceptibility to microbiological infection. This manifests in precipitation of deposits and slurries, biofuel propensity for emulsification, and permanent emulsions increase the bioesters propensity for hydrolysis and increased acid number. A microbiological infection results in the fuel turbidity and in filterability deterioration, in increased pollution in the form of deposits, in fuel colour and smell change, and increased viscosity. In many cases microbes in contact with water form a biofilm strongly adhering to tanks surfaces. The biofilm matrix structure is stabilized due to extracellular polymeric substances (EPS). A biofilm formation is a process consisting of many stages. In the first, stage microbes are initially connected to the tank surface by weak bonds, remaining in permThe biofilm matrix structure is stabilized due to extracellular polymeric substances (EPS). A biofilm formation is a process consisting of many stages. Biofilm affects electrochemical processes proceeding on the metal surface. The electrochemical processes proceeding on the metal surface break the passive layer and pitting or even crevice corrosion occurs, very difficult to monitor and is the reason for tank walls damage, threatening with fuel leakage. A biocidal – stabilizing composition for biofuels features improved biocidal – stabilizing properties through inhibition of biofilm matrix formation and prevention of microbiologically induced corrosion. It contains a surfactant with properties highly wetting the surface, preventing irreversible adhesion of microbes and a biocidal compound, containing in particular an oxazolidine groups, an oxidation inhibitor, a hydrocarbon solvent, and a co-solvent.The Main Award of International Federation of Inventors Associations IFIA went to JIW INWEX Sp. z o.o. from Poland for the invention „Polish Health Foods – a panecea for chronic diseases”. In Poland, the list of chronic diseases is published in the Journal of Laws, by way of a Regulation of the Ministry of Health and Health Care. The list includes over 150 disease entities. The most important diseases include cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, neoplasms, epilepsy, and obesity. Chronic diseases constitute a group of diseases that are currently incurable, last all life, and cause premature death. The chronic disease incidence rate is increased by more than ten percent each year. The main cause for these diseases is the total lack of macro, micro- and ultra elements in the soil, and thus in the whole food chain, as well as the presence of toxic pesticides. The creators have developed a comprehensive technology of fertilising the soil with micronised supplements in the amount of 100 easily accessible elements, as well as ecological fertilizers and plant protection products. In the course of the past few years, laboratory, garden, and industrial research have been performed which demonstrated a two- or three-fold increase in organic crops with multiple amounts of supplements, vitamins, tannins, and enzymes. During the IWIS 2019 not only research institutes presented their achievements. Among exhibitors were also enterprises, universities, schools, and individual inventors. All solutions were classified according to 12 different categories ranging from ecology and environmental protection, mechanics, electronics, energy to medical solutions. World Competition of Chemical Inventors is the contest organized by the International Federation of Inventors’ Association IFIA. During this year’s exhibition, the 8th edition of the World Competition of Chemical Inventions has taken place.

The main prize of the 8th World Competition of Chemical Inventions went to Malaysia for the invention “Utilization of Biomaterials Derived from Cockle Shell Waste as Bio-scaffold in Bone Tissue Engineering” from UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA PAHANG. The ultimate objective of this study is to develop bone scaffold derived from cockle shells that have good physicochemical, mechanical and biocompatibility properties to be applied as material in dental application for bone tissue engineering. The process of fabricating the bone scaffold involved four main stages; pre-treatment of cockle shells, production of Hydroxyapatite (HAP), fabrication of bone scaffold using HAP and Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) and verification of bone scaffold for its physicochemical, mechanical and biocompatibility properties. Based on our research, the production of bio-scaffold derived from cockle shells is feasible in terms of those properties as compared with the natural bone. This work is in collaboration with Faculty of Restorative Dentistry University of Malaya as the end-user of the bone scaffold. Overall, the development of this product will eventually help to reduce the cost of dental/bone implant. In summary, the 13th edition of International Warsaw Invention Show IWIS 2019 was a great success. The event every year attracts more and more exhibitors and visitors. We hope that the exhibition will result in a number of implementations of the presented inventions and innovations.Congratulations to all participants of the exhibition.

Sajjad Ebadi, IFIA Advisor, PhD in International Policy-MakingMasoud Tajbakhsh, IFIA Academic Coordinator Section

IntroductionAs you know the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) gives international recognition to the property rights in IP and serves as the linchpin in the monetization of IP. With the ever-expanding spread of innovations and technology in the new age, for instance in 2017 Trademark filing activity totaled 14.3 million and this growth has been double digits in most developed and developing countries since last year; as a result, we are facing an increase in the share of intellectual property in world trade and of course WIPO will play an increasingly important role. In this article we are going to present an overview of the activities of WIPO and NGOs. The significance of the same will demonstrate the crucial case of the upcoming general secretary of WIPO.

WIPO and Observers

WIPO is the global forum for intellectual property (IP) services, policy, information, and cooperation. It is a self-funding agency of the United Nations, with 192 countries as members. WIPO's mission is to lead the development of a balanced and effective international IP system that enables innovation and creativity for the benefit of all. Around 250 non-governmental organizations (NGOs) like IFIA and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) have official observer status at WIPO meetings. WIPO welcomes the inclusion of stakeholder organizations and interested groups as observers at the formal meetings of member states. Nongovernmental organizations Task-oriented and driven by people with a common interest, NGOs perform a variety of service and humanitarian functions, bring citizen concerns to Governments, advocate and monitor policies and encourage political participation through provision of information. WIPO also seeks to involve NGOs, IGOs, industry groups, and all other partners as widely as possible in consultation processes and debates about current issues. These NGOs all work in different areas of WIPO intellectual property ranging from legal to scientific, research and commercial.Today, WIPO handles much of the governance of governments with NGOs in the field of IP.WIPO monitors work on the following committees that cover the organization's missions:Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR), the Law of Patents (SCP), Law of Trademarks, Industrial Designs and Geographical Indications (SCT), Intergovernmental Committee (IGC), Development and Intellectual

As we all know, the position of WIPO’s General-Director and the selection for the position is crucial in the current circumstances, since for the next six years, the future of the innovation and invention world will be totally subordinate to this important decision. It can help to enhance the cycle of innovation and invention with a new point of view, and it may also benefit the new, young inventors.Suitable guidance and direction in this field can execute a noticeable role in this area where it is required to have someone having worked with NGOs to be proud of this position in his/her career. Someone who has equalized his or her national and worldwide organizational potentials with the development of nations.By publishing this article, IFIA demonstrates that it is one of the main supports of WIPO and wants its 176 members to be aware of the importance of this election and to work together to deliver the best achievable result for the associated organization. Both parties (IFIA and WIPO) have collaborated for a long time considering each other's progress as an excellent goal. In particular spearing joint venture projects have also been successful in recent years

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2020:EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN

Invention and innovation are not a gender-differentiated issue, the creative talent is inherent in people of every age, nation, sex, class or color. It is a neutral potential waiting to be identified, unleashed, nurtured, and developed. However, throughout the centuries, values have been ascribed to it and right into the 19th-century women were deprived of the right to gain a patent for their innovative creations under their own names since the patent was considered an intellectual property of which women were denied.Other discouraging factors included lack of equal educational opportunities, shortage of economic resources, and inappropriate tags for women inventors. In addition, cultural norms further perpetuated such disparities and inequalities; Women were not urged to pursue scientific and technological opportunities. By contrast, they were expected to do domestic chores, care for the kids, or focus on the social traditions and customs by being involved in daily issues. While men participated in various classes of science, philosophy,

and business, women were permitted to take part in art-related courses. Those who acted against the norms were considered social outcasts.Today, despite all the barriers imposed on women, most of our everyday ease and comfort are brought about by them. The invention is no more a male-dominant field and women of different nations are coming up with cutting-edge innovations that are radically changing our world. However, women inventors are not well-represented.

Henceforth, the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA), as the only non-profit organization aiming to disseminate invention and innovation, is committed to promoting women’s accomplishments and creative endeavors. The following female inventors are among only a few who have been recognized around the world.

Hind Hobeika, from Lebanon, whose new product, Insta-beat®, is a revolutionary swimming device that can seam-lessly and instantaneously track an athlete’s workout. Mounted to any pair of swimming goggles, it displays con-veniently, Google Glass-like, your heartbeat, calories, and the number of laps and flips turns, giving real-time feed-back and syncing to your mobile app or computer to track progress over time.Little surprise that her target goal of raising $35,000 was more than twice surpassed in the first days of her cam-paign. Contributors came from the U.S., Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

And Gil Soon Lee, from South Korea, who has developed AIRVITA products that act as an air purifier and active deodorizer that removes 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, and molds in the home. In addition, the technology does so without the use of filters thus making it very user-friendly to operate significantly extending the product shelf life and without incurring ongoing consumable costs. Its com-pact size minimizes visual spacing, the wonderful design enhances room styling and the direct plug-in maximizes physical space usage.

IFIA invites all of the members to celebrate the World Intellectual Property Day on April 26 to appreciate the role that intellectual property rights play in stimulating innovation and creativity. This year WIPO has established the “Innovate for a Green Future” The 2020 World Intellectual Property campaign puts innovation – and the IP rights that support it – at the heart of efforts to create a green future. Why? Because the choices we make today will shape our tomorrow. The earth is our home. We need to care for it.The campaign also celebrates the many inspiring inventors and creators around the world who are betting on a green future – the women, men and young people who are working on cleaner alternatives to legacy fossil-fuel-based technologies and better and more sustainable food and natural resource management systems, and who are using the IP system to support their work and its uptake and use in society.IFIA encourages you to participate in activities on World IP Day in order to raise awareness of IP and promote innovation. You can share your activities at [email protected] April 26, we celebrate World Intellectual Property Day to learn about the role that intellectual property (IP) rights play in encouraging innovation and creativity.World IP Day 2020 puts innovation – and the IP rights that support it – at the heart of efforts to create a green future. Why? Because the choices we make today will shape our tomorrow. The earth is our home. We need to care for it.Carving a pathway to a green future is a modern-day imperative. We all share in this challenge and each has a role in building a green future. It is a complex and multi-faceted endeavor, but as the well-known naturalist David Attenborough has noted, “as a species, we are expert problem solvers.” We can create a green future. We has collective wisdom, ingenuity, and creativity to come up with new, more effective ways to shape a low-carbon future. But we must act now!The choices we make today will shape our tomorrow. The earth is our home.We need to care for it.
