Search How-to

Quickly finding a specific feature in WebMap can easily be attained by using one of the preset searches.

1. To access these preset searches, simply click on the Query window button (it looks like

binoculars) on the Tools tab in the upper left of the map.

1. In the Queries window, use the pull-down menu to select the preset search that you wish to use.

In this example we have chosen to use: Search by Neighbourhood Name. In the Enter

Neighbourhood box, type in the name, or part of the name of the neighbourhood you are

searching for. If you would like to view a list of all possible values, click the box to the right of

the Enter Neighbourhood (identified with red circle below). This will bring up all possible

neighbourhoods as shown below. Double click to add this value to the query.

The Save as box shows how the query will be shown in the Legend and/or data window. It is

recommended that you change the default to something more representative of your search,

however this can be done after. The two check boxes allow you to customize how your query

will show on the map, whether you want it added to the map and whether you want it added to

the data window. It is highly recommended that you check the box for Add to data window.

Without this step, you cannot zoom to your queried feature.

When you are happy with your parameters, click Execute.

A couple things happen when you click Execute. First, if you had Add to map checked, your

query is added to the bottom of the Legend with the style and name that you chose. Secondly,

if you had Add to data window checked, the data window opens at the bottom showing the

record of the feature you searched for. At this point, you can close the Queries window.

NOTE: Executing a Query will NOT automatically zoom the map to your queried feature. To do

this you must click on the magnifying glass icon in the data window. Alternately, you can select

the record in the data window by clicking on it and the map will zoom to your feature.
