American Impressionism was a style ofpainting related to French Impression-ism, practiced by American artists in thelate 19th and early 20th centuries. Dis-satisfied with the conservatism of theAmerican art establishment, ten artistsfrom Boston and New York joined to-gether in 1898 to form ''The Ten,.. withthe intention of creating their own soci-ety that valued originality, imaginationand exhibition quality and with the pur-pose of exhibiting their work as a unifiedgroup of Impressionist painters. Bethwill discuss the lives and achievementsof ..The Ten," with emphasis on WilliamMerritt Chase, a member of this groupwho painted some of the most beautifuland beloved pieces of American art.Many of these works can be viewed atMuseum of Fine Arts, Boston.

The South Caucasus region is markedby long-term tense relations betweenTurkey and Armenia (stemming from theArmenian genocide,1915-1921); thetransition to democracy in Armenia (theVelvet Pevolution of 2018); the conflictbetween Armenia and Azerbaijan overthe disputed area of Ngorno-Karabakhthat led to a war this year; and the over-arching ambition of Pussia to reassertits control over the region. We will ex-amine each of these.
