ABSTRACT

Experiment on Seabass, Lates ealearifer (Bloch) rearing was conducted in a waterrecircu1ation system using polyethylene net bio-filter 80 and 40 kg in weight comparing to thecontrol; open system. Seabass average weight of 1,84±O.12 g and length of 1.91±O.08 inchwere stocked in densities of 500 fish/ton in each experiment. At the end of the experimentafter 50 days of rearing, productions of the recirculation system, using 80 kg polyethylene netbio-fiher showed a significant highest performance (p<0.05) which were average weight44.65±1.39 g , length 5.92±O.01 inch , growth rate 0.86-J:O.03 g/day, specific growth rate6.38± 0.06 %/day, FCR 1.25±O.01 and production 22.32 kg/ton. On the other hand the opensystem showed lowest growth and production, amount of 490.10of the Seabass died after 45days of rearing. This was probably attributed to the results of low oxygen (3.20 mg/l), due tohigh metabolic waste (total ammonia nitrogen 1.050 mgIl and nitrite 0.944 mg/l). The waterquality and total bacteria in both of recirculation system were found in safety levels andshowed no effect on growth and survival rate of Seabass. The water quality was better afterthe water pass trough the polyethylene net bio-filter
