+Gospel Jesus feed the five thousand (John 6:1-14)

Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the signs he had performed by healing the sick. Then Jesus went up on a mountainside and sat down with his disciples. The Jewish Passover Festival was near.

When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?” He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages[a] to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!”

+Gospel Jesus feed the five thousand (John 6:1-14)

Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”

Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.

+Gospel Jesus feed the five thousand (John 6:1-14)

When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.

After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.”

Discussion

How is Faith different from

Religion?

Page 13: + FAITH AND RELIGION Arambulo, Guillermo, Dolojan, Sabinosa, Sumayo

+Religion

Public practices

For example: hearing mass, praying the rosary with the family, doing novenas, going on retreats, doing the sign of the cross, prayers before/after meals

Faith

Observed privately

Praying before bed, living in God’s faith (following the 10 Commandments etc.)

Page 14: + FAITH AND RELIGION Arambulo, Guillermo, Dolojan, Sabinosa, Sumayo

+FIDUCIAL FAITH

Showing your faith through religious practices (masses, communion, novena, etc.)

ILLUMINATIVE FAITH

Deeper understanding of faith (retreats, bible reading, etc.)

PERFORMATIVE FAITH

Imitating what Jesus did when he was living, giving service to others (donating, helping in relief ops, etc.)

Page 15: + FAITH AND RELIGION Arambulo, Guillermo, Dolojan, Sabinosa, Sumayo

+Religion does not necessarily demand you to subject yourself into observing public practices, observing faith in private is fine because religion is about living a life of compassion

When you do something with a full heart, this is what religion and faith truly is

Everything should be done with compassion Everyone is your neighbor, even if you are different in race,

color, ethnicity, social status, etc., we are all children of God We should always have open arms to help one another Jesus is the perfect role model of someone who lived a life of

compassion and we should follow all of his actions and wordsThe “kingdom of God” also means living out a true Christian

lifestyle

+Closing PrayerPrayer of Generosity

Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous

Teach me to serve You as I should

To give and not to count the cost

To fight and not to heed the wounds

To toil and not to seek for rest

To labor and ask not for reward

Save that of knowing that I do Your most holy will

One word Prayer
