ΤΟΚΟΣ ΚΑΙ ΣΧΕΣΗ ΧΡΗΜΑΤΟΣ-ΧΡΟΝΟΥ Η πλειονότητα των οικονομικών μελετών συσχετίζεται άμεσα με την επένδυση κεφαλαίων για μεγάλες σχετικά χρονικές περιόδους που οι επιπτώσεις του χρόνου στο κεφάλαιο πρέπει να ληφθούν υπόψη. Για να είμαστε σε θέση να υπολογίσουμε τις επιπτώσεις αυτές πρέπει να κατανοήσουμε ότι το κεφάλαιο αποτελεί έναν παραγωγικό και δυναμικό παράγοντα για τις επιχειρήσεις και συνεπώς δικαιούται «μισθολογική αποζημίωση» όταν χρησιμοποιείται. Έτσι μπορούμε να τον λάβουμε υπόψη στις οικονομικές μελέτες. Το αντικείμενο αυτού του κεφαλαίου είναι η αποτίμηση του κόστους του κεφαλαίου που χρησιμοποιείται. Απόδοση Κεφαλαίου Σε μία καθαρά ανταγωνιστική οικονομία που χρηματοδοτείται από ιδιωτικά κεφάλαια, οι προμηθευτές του κεφαλαίου αναμένουν κάποιο όφελος από την διάθεση για χρήση των κεφαλαίων τους. Αυτό το όφελος από τη διάθεση για χρήση του κεφαλαίου είναι γνωστό στους οικονομολόγους σαν απόδοση του κεφαλαίου, κάτι ανάλογο με το μισθό για τον εργαζόμενο, ή τα χρήματα που δαπανώνται για την αγορά πρώτων υλών. Βέβαια και όταν η προμήθεια του κεφαλαίου γίνεται από κυβερνητικούς φορείς, υπάρχει μία απαίτηση για τον υπολογισμό της απόδοσης του εν λόγω κεφαλαίου διότι και για την κυβέρνηση αυτό το κεφάλαιο έχει κόστος αφού μπορεί να προέρχεται από δανεισμό (π.χ. ομόλογα του δημοσίου) ή από φόρους που επιβάλλει στους πολίτες. 1
