High Town Festival 2013

Saturday 13th – Sunday 14th JulyVarious venues in High Town had an array of entertainment and community activity, including music, art, dance and food.

SATURDAY

- Shop 33 hosted a selection of acoustic musicians from 12:00-18:00, accompanied by homemade cake, provided by local artist and baker, Laura Woods.

- The Welbeck car park’s community stage displayed a mixture of dance acts, acoustic performers and gospel singers, as well as presenting an award ceremony for the hand made hats that were crafted earlier in the day, at the opening of Hi-Hats on High Town Road, who put on a hat making workshop for the festival.

- All throughout the day, people were able to give their views about High Town at the ‘Your Say, Your Way’ tent so that locals could comment on what is important to them, and music was played freely by buskers, filling High Town Road with wonderful sounds.

- The Scandinavian café organised an arts and crafts fair for the day, and put on festival orientated food.

- The Methodist Church set up a stall with crafts, clothing and face painting and opened their doors so that people could appreciate the architecture within the church itself and look at photos of years gone by.

- Later on in the evening a selection of local bands performed at both The Painter’s and The Freeholder, including Irish folk group, Midnight Hour, and local singer, Tony Bignell.

- From 6pm onwards, a local music promotion called Brainstorm was put on at Charlie Brown’s, which comprised of an assortment of acts, including the legendary High Town band, The Knockouts, rock and roll group, Johnny Chocolate and The Milkshakes, drum and bass DJ, AMC, alternative rock from Death of Flexy Boys, an open mic Hip-Hop session, and a list of more.

SUNDAY

- The Painter’s Arms marked its one hundred year anniversary with an open Irish music session in the day, and a traditional Irish buffet, and local band, Right As Rain playing in the evening.

- Live bands played in the afternoon, including jazz fusion act comprising of members of 33, Mantrata, and folk band, The Nimblewitts.

- Shop 33 started the day with a cello performance from Chris Doggett moving onto a spoken word session with the likes of Lee Nelson, and ending off with a vinyl party, where people brought there vinyl and played a selection of their favourite albums.
