Aboriginal Advisory Board

TERMS OF REFERENCE

The Acacia Prison Aboriginal Advisory Board was established by Serco Australia to provide relevant support and advice to Management on issues, programs and services, which affect Aboriginal prisoners incarcerated at Acacia Prison.

The Aboriginal Advisory Board will work with the Assistant Director Offender Management; the Coordinator Indigenous Affairs and other members of the Senior Management Team at Acacia Prison to provide advice and direction on policies, initiatives, services and programs for Aboriginal prisoners in the following areas:

Community, cultural and spirituality; Post release support

Health & wellbeing; Diet; Education;

Skills and Vocational training; Work programs; and

Post release support

Reconciliation

Department of Indigenous Affairs Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs)

The Department, in partnership with Reconciliation Australia, is working with other agencies, organisations and communities to overcome disadvantage and to Close the Gap - particularly in the areas of health, housing, education, law, justice and employment.

Using the outlined Terms of Reference (14 points) this Consultancy Project will review Acacia Prison’s Aboriginal population and service delivery by collecting, recording and commenting on the perceptions and views of Indigenous prisoners to:

Identify programs, services and initiatives that are meeting the needs of the various Aboriginal groups.

Identify programs, services and initiatives that are not meeting the needs of the various Aboriginal groups.

Make recommendations on operational strategies to address the identified gaps.
