� Never pull the charger lead todisconnect the charger fromthe socket. Keep the chargerlead away from heat, oil andsharp edges.

After use� Unplug the charger before

cleaning the charger orcharging base.

� When not in use, the applianceshould be stored in a dry place.Children should not haveaccess to stored appliances.

Inspection and repairs� Before use, check the appliance

for damaged or defectiveparts. Check for breakage ofparts, damage to switchesand any other conditions thatmay affect its operation.

� Do not use the appliance if anypart is damaged or defective.

� Have any damaged ordefective parts repaired orreplaced by an authorisedrepair agent.

� Regularly check the chargerlead for damage. Replace thecharger if the lead isdamaged or defective.

� Never attempt to remove orreplace any parts other thanthose specified in this manual.

Battery� Never attempt to open the

battery for any reason.� Do not expose the battery to

water.� Do not incinerate the battery.� When disposing of batteries,

follow the instructions givenin the section “Protecting theEnvironment”.

Charger� Do not expose the charger to

water.� Do not open the charger.

ELECTRICAL SAFETYYour charger has been designedfor a specific mains voltage.Always check that the mainsvoltage corresponds to thevoltage on the rating plate.

Your charger is doubleinsulated in accordance withEN 60335; therefore noearth wire is required.

Never attempt to replacethe charger unit with aregular mains plug.

INSTALLATION

Fitting the charging base to thewall (fig. B)The charging base can be fittedto the wall to provide aconvenient storage and chargingpoint for the appliance.

� Find a suitable indoorlocation near a mains outlet.

� Position the charging base asshown and mark the locationof the mounting holes (6) onthe wall.

� Drill a hole (ø 6 mm, approx.35 mm deep) at each of themarked locations.

� Insert the wall plugs providedinto the holes.

� Fit the charging base to thewall using the screws provided.Make sure to guide the chargerlead through the slot (7).Excess lead can be stored atthe rear of the charging base.

BEFORE FIRST USE

Before first use, the battery mustbe charged for at least 16 hours.

� Before charging, preferablydischarge the battery byoperating the appliance untilthe motor stops.

� Charge the battery asdescribed below.

USE

Charging the battery (fig. C)� Make sure that the appliance

is switched off. The batterywill not be charged with theon/off switch in the onposition.

� Place the appliance on thecharging base as shown.

� Plug in the charger. Switch onat the mains.

� Leave the appliance tocharge for at least 16 hours.

Whilst charging, the charger maybecome warm. This is normal anddoes not indicate a problem. Theappliance can be left connectedto the charger indefinitely. Whenthe battery is fully charged,the power consumption of thecharger is negligible.

Important! Place the appliance onthe charging base whenever it isnot in use. After fully charging thebattery, the average effective usagetime is approx. 8 to 15 minutes(depeding on the model). It maytake several charging cycles beforethe battery attains full capacity.

Do not charge the battery atambient temperaturesbelow 4 °C or above 40 °C.

Operating the appliance (fig. D)� To switch on, slide the on/off

switch (1) forward.� To switch off, slide the on/off

switch back.

Accessories (fig. E & F)

V4810/V4820/V7210/V9650These models are supplied withthe following accessories (fig. E):- a hard brush (8) for furniture

and stairs (not for V4820)- a crevice tool (9) for confined

spaces

- a soft brush (10) for keyboardsand lamp shades (V4820)

V9650Two additional accessories arestored in a portable caddy locatedin the charging base:- a soft brush (10) for keyboards

and lamp shades- an extendable crevice tool (11)

for longer reach in confinedspaces

To fit an accessory, proceed asfollows (fig. F):

� Take the accessories from theappliance.

� Insert the appropriateaccessory into the front of theappliance.

TROUBLESHOOTINGIf the product does not work,follow the instructions below.If this does not solve the problem,please contact your localBlack & Decker repair agent.

� Make sure the battery is fullycharged.

� If the battery cannot becharged, check if the chargeris plugged in correctly andthe mains is working.Make sure the on/off switch isin the off position.

CLEANING ANDMAINTENANCE

Regularly clean the filters.

Cleaning the dust bowl andfilters (fig. G, H, I & J)The filters are re-usable andshould be cleaned regularly.

� Press the release button (2)and remove the dust bowl (3)(fig. G).

� Remove any dust from thedust bowl (fig. H).

� Remove the filters (12 & 13) bytwisting them clockwise (fig. I).

� Brush any loose dust off thefilters.

� Wash the filters in warm,soapy water. The bowl canalso be washed if necessary(fig. J).

� Make sure the dust bowl andfilters are dry.

� Refit the filters (12 & 13) ontothe appliance, twisting themcounterclockwise until theylock into place.

� Refit the dust bowl onto theappliance. Make sure the dustbowl clicks into place.

Important! Optimum dustcollection will only be achievedwith clean filters and an emptydust bowl. If dust begins to fallback out of the appliance afterswitching it off, this indicates thatthe dust bowl is full and must beemptied.

� Never use the appliancewithout the filters.

� Do not immerse theappliance in water (fig. K).

Replacing the filters (fig. G & I)The filters should be replacedevery 6 to 9 months andwhenever worn or damaged.Replacement filters are availablefrom your Black & Decker dealer(cat. no. VF20).

� Press the release button (2)and remove the dust bowl (3)(fig. G).

� Remove the filters (12 & 13)by twisting them clockwise(fig. I).

� Fit the new filters (12 & 13)onto the appliance, twistingthem counterclockwise untilthey lock into place.

� Refit the dust bowl onto theappliance. Make sure the dustbowl clicks into position.

PROTECTING THEENVIRONMENT

Should you find one daythat your Black & Deckerproduct needs replacement,or if it is of no further use toyou, think of the protectionof the environment.Black & Decker repair agentswill accept old Black & Deckerproducts and ensure thatthey are disposed of in anenvironmentally safe way.

Battery (fig. L)

If you want to dispose of theproduct yourself, the batterymust be removed asdescribed below anddisposed of in accordancewith local regulations.Do not short-circuit thebattery terminals.

� Preferably discharge thebattery by operating theappliance until the motorstops.

The battery is located under theback end of the appliance.

� Remove the crevice tool fromthe accessory holder.

� Push the slider (14) towardsthe front of the product.

� Remove the accessory holder.� Strike the product on a firm

and stable surface as shown infig. L to dislodge the battery.Alternatively, use a screwdriverto dislodge the battery.

� Place the battery in suitablepackaging to ensure that theterminals cannot be short-circuited.

� Take the battery to your serviceagent or a local recyclingstation. Collected batterieswill be recycled or disposedof properly.
