What is a “progressive” loader? We’re so used tousing these machines that we sometimes forget thatnot everyone knows what they are. If you al-

ready know, just skip over the next two paragraphs. To reload a fired cartridge case, six steps are necessary: (1)

push out the old primer, referred to as “decapping,” and re-prime the case; (2) squeeze the case down to its original size,referred to as “resizing”; (3) expand the mouth of the case soa new bullet can be pushed into it; (4) pour a measuredamount of powder into the case; (5) push a new bullet intothe case, referred to as “seating the bullet”; and(6) form the mouth of the case in against thebullet, referred to as “crimping.”

In the old days, these steps weredone one at a time in single-stagepresses and produced loadedammo at about 50 rounds per hour.Dillon progressive machines, however, doall of these steps at the same time. They work like abottling machine rotating the cartridges from station to sta-tion and produce a loaded cartridge with each stroke of thehandle. Production rates of 500 cartridges per hour arecommon. That’s why these machines are so popular.

More Dillon RL 550s have been sold than any other pro-gressive machine in the world, and for good reason. Its ver-satility is almost unlimited. It will load over 160 differentrifle and pistol calibers. Its quick-change toolhead al-lows the user to change calibers rapidly withouthaving to change and readjust the dies.

Used in conjunction with Dillon’s three-diepistol sets, the RL 550C allows crimping to be done sepa-rately in the last station. This feature makes die adjustmenteasier and produces a more consistent and accurate roundof ammunition.

Versatility was a design objective, so the XL 650 lets theuser load virtually every popular pistol and rifle cartridgeutilizing standard 7/8” x 14 dies.

The optional Powdercheck System on the third stationsounds an alarm if the powder charge in a round is out oflimits either high or low.

The toolhead removes in seconds, letting the operatoruse a conversion unit to switch calibers without changing asingle die adjustment. Every die, including the powdermeasure, on the conversion unit remains exactly the sameas the last time it was used.

Each pull of the handle automatically rotates theshellplate and deposits a completed round in the catch bin.The only actions required by the operator are cycling thehandle and putting the bullet in place. That’s it! The speedof reloading becomes a function of dexterity.

Sizing/Depriming Die (Pistol)Our sizing/depriming dies feature a unique “floating decap assem-

bly” with a snap spring that throws the spent primer off the pin andeliminates the problem of primer “draw back” that often occurs whendecapping military brass. The primary feature of Dillon’s size diedesign – the long, tapered carbide ring with a radiused opening –remains unchanged.

That radiused opening, and its importance to progressive reloading, isone of the reasons why our seat and crimp dies are better. We found away of manufacturing these dies that has enabled us to make the lead-inradius even bigger! Our quick-disassembly seat die allows the user to disassemble andclean the seat die without losing adjustment. In this manner, bulletlube and shavings can be quickly removed from the die, thereby guar-anteeing a constant seating depth. We’ve incorporated a “flip-flop”seating stem and a clip that enables you to remove the die insert andchange the seating stem from round nose to semi-wadcutter withoutunscrewing a seating stem out of the die body. cases down to function in semi- and full-automatic firearms. We stronglysuggest that a headspace case gage be used to correctly adjust the size die.

CV-2001 – The Industry Standard Dillon’s CV-2001 Vibratory Case Cleaner is

the largest in the industry. Its 12-1/2 quart bowlcapacity will allow you to polish up to 1,300.38/.357 or 550 .30-06 cases per hour.

Not only is our capacity greater, but ourmotor is larger in horsepower, internallycooled, thermally protected, and turns on preci-sion ball bearings. This is no “hobby” machine!

The RT 1500 is used just like a standardsize die. The big difference is that while

you are pushing the case into the die tosize it, an electric motor driving a carbidecutter at 4500 RPM is trimming the case tolength. Chips are drawn off through a vac-uum manifold that clamps to the outside ofthe special size/trim die. (Vacuum cleanerand hose not included.) The RT 1500 isequipped with a quick-disconnect powercord; and it can be used on any standardreloader, single stage or progressive.

ago, I was struck by how whomever it was that did the castingfor “Laura Croft, Tomb Raider” got the wrong girl for the job.

Instead, Maggie got the call to appear on “Top Shot,” andtoday she’s flying the flag for Colt, along with Bushnell, Hoppe’s,Hornady, Safariland and Surefire. Her combination of sincerityand mad shooting skills has not only brought her sponsorship, itcarried her halfway around the world, landing guest appearanceson “Shooting USA,” “3 Gun Nation,” and “Modern Shooter.”

Maggie got started shooting man-on-man steel events with herdad in Nevada, but her taste in shooting mirrors her likes infood: “As spicy as I can get it! If I’m not sweating and crying pro-

fusely, it’s not good.” Shooting man-on-man in Nevada led to theAmerican Handgunner Shootoff in Colorado, which led to theSteel Challenge in 2007.

She moved from Steel Challenge to 3-Gun to Bianchi Cup –winning three national titles along the way. She qualified to rep-resent the United States at the World Shoot multiple times(roughly equivalent to the Olympic Games), and secured herplace among the top women in the practical shooting world.

Unlike many, Maggie’s a generalist – a shooting sports ver-sion of an MMA fighter. Just as an MMA fighter would prideherself on being well rounded, Maggie “loves to do it all” –she has a broad set of skills that make her a contender in anyevent, anywhere.
