COORDINATION AND INTEGRATION OF PROGRAMS

The main focus areas of our school are in the areas of Reading, Language Arts and Math.

Our technology programs are integrated into all of our curriculum subject areas and most of our short cycle assessments are administered via computers.

Some of our subject areas, such as integrated science, have web based curriculums. Smart Lab utilizes technology throughout the school year to generate projects that require different writing requirements etc. We also have career cruising which is a program provided by CESDP out of highlands University but has outlying services here at NNMC. It provides students the opportunity to do interest surveys that provides them with data about their strengths and career paths to get students into career opportunities for their future careers. CESDP through our Title I Budget Allocation provides annual professional development support for our Leadership Teams and support staff. We have worked with them to increase parent involvement, instructional support to reach out to ELL students, and strategies on how to support administration with behavioral problems in our school.

This is done in conjunction with our AVID Program which provides students with additional support to get ready for post-secondary education.

In the area of math we are partners with MC2 . They provide considerable amounts of Professional Development (PD) to our staff and pay one of our teachers to work part time as a math instructional coach / math teacher.

Dear Parents and Students, Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year. We are very excited to have you and your children as part of the Carlos F. Vigil Middle School Family. Every staff member has been working very hard to prepare for the return of our wonderful students. We have set very high expectations and made plans to guarantee that every student at Carlos F. Vigil Middle School will be successful this school year.  Student academic success is the main goal of every staff member at CFVMS. We believe that every student will learn to the highest level and we are prepared to offer more time and support to every student that needs it. We ask for your support and participation in this effort by sending your child to school every day, monitoring your child’s homework, and asking your child to share what they learned at school each day.  We are very excited about the start of the new school year. In hopes to keep you well informed we will hold 7 th Grade Registration on August 5, 2013 and 8th Grade Registration on August 6, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please bring your child’s birth certificate, a proof of address and up to date immunization records.  School starts for 7th grade on Thursday, August 15, 2013 and for 8th grade on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 7:50 a.m. and ends at 3:20 p.m. every day. Students are allowed to come on campus at 7:15 a.m. but not before. For your child’s safety and security, DO NOT drop him/her off before 7:15 a.m. You are invited to come to school with your child on their first day of school to meet their teachers and familiarize yourself with the school and staff. This will assist us in building a relationship with you and your child before the school year starts. Please bring your child’s school supplies at this time.  The Espanola Public School Board has a mandatory dress code for all middle school students. A dress code encourages students to express their individuality through personality and academic achievements, not outward appearances. A copy of the student dress code and school supply list can be found on our website www.k12espanola.org and at the Espanola Wal-Mart Supercenter. You may contact your child’s teachers, principals and other staff at any time via email. All staff email addresses can be found in the 2013-2014 CFVMS Cardinal Handbook. Please remember to read and go over the Cardinal Handbook.  The handbook contains information that will answer most questions that you will have concerning Carlos F. Vigil Middle School.  Refer to the CFVMS handbook to find out about fees, athletics, dress code, field trips, and lots of other pertinent information.  We look forward to working with you and your child during the upcoming school year.  Help us to develop a positive working relationship between the home and school to provide your child with the best opportunity to be a successful student at Carlos F. COMMUNITY SUPPORTThe LANL Foundation provides a tremendous amount of financial and

technical support. We recently received $54,000.00+ to purchase science kits for our science classrooms plus the PD so they can use them effectively. They provide Summer Science Academies for our science department and provide our school with technical support for our science fair initiative. They have also provided staff with MOBYS to use in their instructional programs in conjunction with the PD to use them properly.

Our Special Education Department also supports our instructional programs in the form of equipment, materials, PD and financial support. We have numerous students in inclusion programs and both the staff and students benefit from these services.

Another very supportive agency is the City of Espanola Police Department. They provide our school with a resource officer who ensures a safe learning environment for our staff and students. The Espanola Police Department donates magazines to the CFVMS library on a monthly basis for students and staff, to encourage reading and literacy. They have also held presentations on gang awareness and drug abuse to speak with students about these dangers.
