Typical Russian women’s costume consisted of a shirt and a dress called

sarafan. For the manufacturing of

traditional costumes of the late XIX - early XX century both home-

produced and purchased fabrics were used.

Women's costume

Basically it was a two-colored or three- colored cloth, sometimes checked, striped or floral.

Women's hats were very different. The most common headwear was kokoshnik, decorated with beads, mother-of-pearls and gold embroidery

Men's costumes were not so diverse. They

consisted of a long shirt of plain cloth and canvas pants. Men wore trousers with belts.

The most common Russian shoes were lapti.

For household chores people used galoshes.
