TheNDAcampusislocatedabout17kmsouth-westofPunecity,North-wWestofKhadakwaslaLake.Itspans7,015acres(28.39km2)ofthe8,022acres(32.46km2)donatedbytheGovernmentoftheformerBombayState.Thesitewaschosenforbeingonalakeshore,thesuitabilityoftheneighboringhillyterrain,proximitytotheArabianSeaandothermilitaryestablishments,anoperationalairbasenearbyatLohegaonaswellasthesalubriousclimate.Theexistenceofanoldcombined-forcestrainingcentreandadisusedmocklandingship,HMSAngostura,on thenorthbankof theKhadakwasla lakewhichhadbeenused to train troops foramphibious landings, lentadditional leverage for theselectionof thesite.Aptly,NDAisalso located in thehuntinggroundsofthelegendaryShivaji,withtheSinhagadFortasapanoramicbackdrop.

APermanent Commissionmeans a career till retirement. Entry for a Permanent Commission is eitherthroughtheNationalDefenceAcademy(NDA)atKhadakwasla,PuneortheIndianMilitaryAcademy(IMA)atDehradun.

AttheI.M.A.ArmyCadetsareknownasGentlemenCadetsandaregivenstrenuousmilitarytrainingforaperiodofoneyearaimedatturningof�icercapableofleadinginfantrySub-units.Onsuccessfulcompletionof training Gentlemen Cadets are granted Permanent Commission in the rank of Lt, subject to beingmedically�itin"SHAPE"one.

TheNavalcadetsareselectedfortheExecutiveBranchoftheNavy,onpassingoutfromtheNationalDefenceAcademycandidatesaregivenfurthertrainingatIndianNavalAcademy,EzhimalaforaperiodofoneyearonsuccessfulcompletionofwhichtheyarepromotedtotherankofSubLieutenants.

Air Force Cadets receive �lying training for a period of 1½ years. However, at the end of 1 year oftrainingtheyaregivenprovisionalCommissionintherankofFlyingOf�icer.Aftersuccessfulcompletionoffurthertrainingofsixmonthstheyareabsorbedaspermanentcommissionedof�icersonprobationforaperiodofoneyear.

Apart from providing graduation degrees, NDA has the �inest infrastructure for professional training.Candidatesgetphenomenalopportunitiestodeveloptheirpersonalityandcultivatenewinterests.Thereare31extra-curricularactivitiestochoosefrom,suchasaero-modeling,golf,gliding,sailing,windsur�ing,astronomy,photographyandmanymore.

TheNationalDefenseAcademyExaminationismeanttobeorganizedbytheUnionPublicService

Commission(UPSC)forrecruitment into the IndianArmy, IndianNavy,andIndianAirForceand for

IndianNavalAcademyCourse.NDAexaminationisconductedbyUPSCtwiceayear(usuallyinApril&September).

(a)Nationality:Acandidatemusteitherbe:(i)acitizenofIndia,or(ii)asubjectofBhutan,or(iii)asubjectofNepal,or(iv)aTibetanrefugeewhocameovertoIndiabeforethe1stJanuary,1962withtheintentionofpermanentlysettlinginIndia,or(v)apersonofIndianoriginwhohasmigratedfromPakistan,Burma,SriLankaandEastAfricanCountriesofKenya,Uganda,theUnitedRepublicofTanzania,Zambia,Malawi,ZaireandEthiopiaorVietnamwiththeintentionofpermanentlysettlinginIndia.

(b)AgeLimits,SexandMaritalStatus:

Onlyunmarriedmalecandidatesbornnotearlierthan02ndJanuary,2000andnotlaterthan

1st January, 2003 (For NDA/NA- II 2018) are eligible. The date of birth accepted by the

Commission is that entered in theMatriculation or Secondary School Leaving Certificate or in a

certificaterecognisedbyanIndianUniversityasequivalenttoMatriculationorinanextractfroma

RegisterofMatriculatesmaintainedbyaUniversitywhichmustbecertifiedbytheproperauthority

of the University or in the Higher Secondary or an equivalent examination certificates. These

certificatesarerequiredtobesubmittedonlyafterthedeclarationoftheresultofthewrittenpart

of the examination. No other document relating to age like horoscopes, affidavits, birth extracts

from Municipal Corporation, service records and the like will be accepted. The expression

Matriculation/HigherSecondaryExaminationCertificateinthispartoftheinstructionincludesthe

alternativecertificatesmentionedabove.

NOTE1:CandidatesshouldnotethatonlythedateofbirthasrecordedintheMatriculation/Higher

SecondaryExaminationCertificateavailableoranequivalentcertificateonthedateofsubmission

ofapplicationswillbeacceptedbytheCommissionandnosubsequentrequestforitschangewill

beconsideredorgranted.

NOTE 2 : Candidates should also note that once a date of birth has been claimed by them and

entered in the records of the Commission for the purpose of admission to an Examination, no

changewillbeallowedsubsequentlyoratanysubsequentexaminationonanygroundwhatsoever.

Candidates must undertake not to marry until they complete their full training. A

candidatewhomarriessubsequent to thedateofhisapplication thoughsuccessfulat thisorany

subsequentExaminationwillnotbeselectedfortraining.Acandidatewhomarriesduringtraining

shallbedischargedandwillbeliabletorefundallexpenditureincurredonhimbytheGovernment.

12thClasspassofthe10+2patternofSchoolEducationorequivalentexaminationconductedbya

StateEducationBoardoraUniversity.

(ii) ForAir Force andNavalWings ofNationalDefenceAcademy and for the 10+2Cadet EntrySchemeattheIndianNavalAcademy:—12thClasspassofthe10+2patternofSchoolEducationorequivalentwithPhysicsandMathematicsconductedbyaStateEducationBoardoraUniversity.

Candidateswho are appearing in the 12thClass under the 10+2pattern of School Education orequivalentexaminationcanalsoapply for thisexamination.SuchcandidateswhoqualifytheSSBinterviewbutcouldnotproduceMatriculation/10+2orequivalentcertificateinoriginalatthetimeof SSB interview should forward duly self attested Photocopies to ‘Directorate General ofRecruiting, Army HQ, West Block.III, R.K. Puram, New Delhi110066’ and for Naval Academycandidates to ‘Naval Headquarters, DMPR, OI&R Section, RoomNo. 204, ‘C’Wing, Sena Bhavan,NewDelhi-110011’failingwhichtheircandidaturewillbecancelled.Allothercandidateswhohaveproduced their Matriculation and 10+2 pass or equivalent certificates in original at the time ofattendingtheSSBinterviewandhavegotthesameverifiedbytheSSBauthoritiesarenotrequiredtosubmitthesametoArmyHQorNavalHQasthecasemaybe.CertificatesinoriginalissuedbythePrincipalsoftheInstitutionsarealsoacceptableincaseswhereBoards/Universitieshavenotyet issued certificates.
