GREETINGS FROMCHINA！n behalf of China University of Petroleum (Beijing) and SPE CUPB StudentChapter, we are here formally inviting you, together with your university’srepresentatives, to join us in the upcoming 2014 Future Petroleum Engineers

Forum and participate in its campaigns and activities.

Hosted by SPE Student Chapter of CUPB, our forum will be held from May 15th2014 to May 19th 2014, during the period there will be a lot of superb events such asPaper Contest, Petrolbowl and fascinating social activities, entertainments andone-day tour. This forum will prove to be a good opportunity to broaden your sight.Meanwhile, we will present to you a feast of Chinese culture.

Last year our forum witnessed participation from many SPE chapters in the world andeveryone had a great time in China. This year, we are keen to invite more friends tojoin us. We’ve gained supports from SPE North Chapter International, ChinaUniversity of Petroleum as well as the sponsorship of many oil corporations. Asorganizers, we provide for our guests accommodation from 15th to 19th May (5 nights)in hotel, and also cover the cost of food.

We are making efforts to invite and promote the interaction of colleagues and studentsall over the world. In this regard, we shall be deeply honored with your presence inour forum.

This guide includes introductions to this forum and its activities, along with rulesand notes of all campaigns. To get registered and participated, please go throughthis guide firstly, find out your interests, and follow the steps to get engaged!

Get Know About FPEFFuture Petroleum Engineers Forum, also known as National Doctoral

Forum before 2012, is an academic activity of oriented for students who have greatpassion in fields related to petroleum engineering and would like to share theirachievements with talents from all over the world. It provides series of technicalconferences, competitions and talks related to petroleum engineering. The main ideais to build up a platform to exchange knowledge, minds, and research results. Also,plenty of fun can also be found during the event, thus makes the forum become achance for you to experience an academic and cultural exchange.

From May, 17 to May 21, 2013, the 2013Future Petroleum Engineers Forum, washeld in the China University ofPetroleum (Beijing). The forum wassupported by three oil institutes,including World Petroleum Congress ofChina's National Committee, ChinesePetroleum Society, China PetroleumSociety for Education, and China andInternational Petroleum EngineersAssociations. The forum attracted students majored in petroleum engineering of 22universities from all over the world, and was sponsored by 16 companies.

Attached pictures were taken during the forum this year. With more activitiesand campaigns scheduled, we are getting well prepared for the next round!

Our University, Our CampusChina University of Petroleum, Beijing (CUP), is located in a scenic

region of tourist interest in Changping District, Beijing, about 5 miles to the MingTombs and 15 miles to the Great Wall. CUPB offers not only engineering programs inoil and gas science including chemical engineering, petroleum engineering,geoscience and mechanical and electronic engineering, but also, in computer science,business management and Chinese Language Study programs of a full range fromdiploma, bachelor and master to doctoral programs.

For its great achievements in education and research, the university, as a national keyuniversity, has successfully passed the prejudication conducted by all the authorizedorganizations of different levels for a government-launched "211 Project" , and hasbeen selected as one of the first institutions implementing the project by China StateEducational Ministry. It has also be selected by the Government as one of the topuniversities to implement "985" project.

The university has 4 faculties, 5 departments and 3 schools and 1 research center,offering 25 bachelor's , 99 master's and 32 Ph.D. programs and one diplomaprogram in Chinese Language Study. It has 13 research institutes, 31 researchgroups, 30 laboratories, 5 centers, and 2 national key laboratories.

About UsSPE CUPB SC was once the CUPB Youth Petroleum Engineering Association,

which was founded in 1995. At the same time, they made their own periodical—ThePioneer. With the help of plenty people, the association established connections withSociety of Petroleum Engineers and 2005 witnessed the successfully found of the firstSPE Student Chapter in China, known as SPE CUPB SC.

Since then we has devoted a great deal to building an “International academic studentorganization”. In the past eight years, our chapter has gained great influences in ouruniversity and among students.

The International Petroleum Engineering Association president of 2009 BehroozFattah and the president of 2011 Alain Labastie both fully appreciated our ability inscientific research, student training and talents cultivating. We are delighted that SPEinternational has also formally acknowledged our excellent performance, and this hascontributed to our chapter being regarded as the Best Chapter of the month forJanuary, 2011.

In 2012, our chapter won the honor of “Outstanding Student Chapter” which makes usthe first and the only one Asian student chapter having this achievement. Thanks tothe rich experience in holding meetings and activities, we will continue to be theorganizer of the forum.

1 Student Conference

We will hold this conference before all the other events getting started, introduce the arrangementsto your course and have you known to our volunteers serving the forum.

2 Fusion Talks

The talk is free for asking questions. After a short introduction of every guest, the host will begintheir talk in a relaxed way. The topics can be chosen by the guests themselves or the host. Studentswho are interested in SPE Student Chapter, or any areas related to petroleum industry can raisetheir hands and ask questions at any time.

3 SPE Culture Night

To strengthen cultural exchanges, we suggest all participants to dress your traditional costume inthis night and each chapter to prepare one or two shows. We encourage you to introduce yourtraditional culture with a PPT limited in 5 minutes. Moreover, Chinese food and culture willpresent for you in the event. Culture night will be an interesting experience for you.

4 Petroleum Industry Exhibition

Dozens of oil companies will be invited to join this Exhibition. You can learn the history of the oilcompanies, and communicate with HRs face to face about interns and careers. Other interestingactivities and beautiful gifts will prepare for you.

5 E-Posting

To preheat the academic atmosphere of the FPEF, there will be an informal way of carrying outthe academic activity. We will provide you a exhibition stand to deliver your ideas amid thePetroleum Industry Exhibition surrounded by the audience of the forum participants (Engineers,Professors, Representatives, Students and so on).It’s an easier way to share your ideas with themand it’s also a chance to practice your skills of paper presentation before the Paper Contest.6 Sports Culture Gala

This is a gala containing dozens of spots games. Each participant will have fun cooperating withhis or her teammates and communicate with students from other universities.

7 Contests

7.1 Paper Contest

The Paper Contest, as an important part of FPEF, is trying to create a good platformfor students to learn and show their abilities, promote a communication of youngscholars in the field of petroleum engineering. In this competition students shouldmake some research or study as an innovation related to the development ofpetroleum.

7.2 Petro Bowl Competition

This competition is Interesting Petro Bowl for all SPE student chapter membersactually. The questions will be simple and interesting. Through this competition, youwill learn knowledge in a cheerful and relaxing environment!

7.3 Drilling Rig Design Competition

The competition takes the form of participating in a team. Each team should limit thenumber of the participants from 3 to 5. The competition was divided into two parts: oil

rig design and making, then your oil rig model will be displayed and judged. The oilrig model must be built based on the items given by the committee. Combined withyour innovative thinking, the oil rig that is designed and produced should at least meetthe basic requirements. And then, it is necessary to make a presentation about yourmodels. At last, you would answer the questions from the judges and the audience.According to the operation of the oil rig and your performance on the presentation, thejudges will award the final rankings.

7.4 Petroleum Engineering Design Competition

This is a new event for you. You should design an oil field development projectaccording to the base oil field data by your team. Your team is limited to 5 persons. Wehave successfully held this event since 2011 in Beijing. 17 petroleum universities inChina with over 500 groups and more than 2000 people have participated in the firstconpetition, with a larger sum of particitators engaged in 2012. The contest hadtremendously increased the students' passion to devote to academic research, andconstituted a brand new way of education.

8 Technical session

Technical session is one of the most featured activities in the Doctor Forum. We aimed atfaciliating the academic exchange, broadening the research vision, stimulating the passion forinnovation and building up the scientific concepts of the students. Many famous experts and manyinnovative opinions will come forth, and we would like to invite the leading experts in the field ofpetroleum to share their great and profound opinions. This event will be held on May 18th, 2014for whole day long. At that time, we will give the floor to the experts. They will decide the formsof the lectures.

9 Round-table Meeting

It is a valuable chance for all the participants to join together, chatting freely with each other. Youcan learn of other SPE Student chapters from different countries and have communication with theother foreign students. You will certainly have better understanding about the different culture,different background of petroleum industry and any other things. This will also be the best way forall of you to get familiar and make different friends with each other.

10 One-Day Tour in Beijing

On the last day of the Forum, we will prepare you with a one-day trip of famous scenic spots inBeijing. Two scheduled trip lines are provided and each guest only can choose one to follow. Andwe will charge some fee for the transportation and tickets.

Accommodation and RegistrationAs the host of FPEC’2014, we will provide the free accommodations in Beijingduring May 15th to 19th, 2014; however your flight fees are not included.

1. HOW to Get Engaged

You need to complete the Forum’s registration form in the attachments file to fill in all theinformation, and please sent the complete registration form to E-mail: 2014fpef@gmail.combefore March 15, 2014.

If you are not alone to participate in this forum, your registration form can be sent by your teamleader to the mailbox all together. If you are interested in attending one of these games, pleasereference guide in the introduction and rules for each game, which can referred to the abovementioned requirements, rules and the organizer mailbox, and please send the requiredinformation to the corresponding mailbox before the deadline.

There is no restriction on number of the representatives of your chapter to come, but each contesthas its own rule on the participators’ number, you can check it out in the introductions of thosecontests respectively. Every student must take part in at least one competition from Oil RigCompetition, Paper Contest, Petro Bowl Competition and Petroleum Engineering DesignCompetition.

2. Registration Fee

The registration fee will be 200 RMB for each person. Please prepare the cash and pay when youcheck in.

3. Invitation Letter and Hotel Reservation

The invitation letter attached to this guide is officially available. If you need an invitation letter toindividuals or group, please send a name list to 2014fpef@gmail.com.

If you need a hotel reservation in applying for visa, please mark it out in your registration form.Please note that only reservations between 15th and 19th are available.

Rules and NotesEach single contest has its own rules and notes. Please read them carefully before yousign up for a competition.

In order to ensure you successfully participate in various contests, you need to fill inall the required information in advance and send these forms, including such asthe registration form for each contest, essay contest papers, oil cup samplequestions, team members and other information to a specified mailbox.

Hereby Attention: for the competitions need to be in group, you can make group withyour classmates in advance or you can sign up individually, we provide you with ateammate in the forum at random. However, the petroleum engineering designcompetition organized by the Forum has been on before the form, as you prepare toparticipate in the competition, please visit the website ahead of tournament organizingcommittee and team up.

Rules and Notes for Paper ContestINTRODUCTION

The Paper Contest, as an important part of FPEF, is trying to create a good platform for students tolearn and show their abilities, promote a communication of young scholars in the field ofpetroleum engineering. In this competition students should make some research or study as aninnovation related to the development of petroleum.

RULESThe subject of the paper must be related to theme of “NEW DEVELOPMENT IN Oil and Gas

INDUSTRY”.

There are four different paper contribution aspects:

Petroleum geology and exploration

Drilling and completion engineering

Development and production engineering

Machinery and storage & transportation engineering.

Participants will be arranged in related group to attend the forum. Participant in the same group

would present the paper in the same speaking room.

Time limits for different candidates are:

Doctoral candidate: 15 minutes per person to present the paper, 5 minutes for interaction after

the speech.

Master’s degree candidate and undergraduate student: 10 minutes per person to present the

paper, 5 minutes for interaction after the speech.

English is required through the whole speech and interaction.

Bell will be rung to alert the time. First ring will be run 30 seconds before the time limit, and

the final ring would be run when time is up.

NOTES Every participant should sign in at their speaking room 15 minutes before the activity is

started. Participant would make the speech in arranged order.

Microsoft Office is recommended to write the abstract and PowerPoint and other digital

documents. Please format them to Office 2003.

Details of the patterns of the paper is attached to this guide.

For each participant: Prepare an English version of PowerPoint by him/herself and copy it to

forum’s computers before the forum is open.

Rules and Notes for Oil Rig DesignCompetitionGENEALRULES Teams must register using the prescribed Registration Form. Teams need to submit their

registration forms before the deadline given.

Each team has to send three (3) to five (5) respective participants to compete in Oil Rig

Competition.

Teams may build their model rigs (specified: jacket model) a day before competition

(presentation). Place will be provided and each team has to complete their model rigs within

four (4) hours.

All presentations, verbal communications, written documentation, and the competition itself

will be in English.

Material for constructing Oil Rig will be provided, based on recycle material.

No other materials are allowed to be used for the construction of the model.

A briefing on the competition rules and other details will be held for 30 minutes before

competition started.

Competition rules are subject to change. Any rules changes, clarifications, and/or agenda will

be announced to all participating universities during the competition briefing.

Each university can only send their participant maximum one (1) team.

REGISTRATIONS Participants need to submit their completed registration form to

spesecretariat2013@gmail.com before the deadline with their photos.

The registration is opened from 1st February – 15st April 2014.COMPETITION FORMATOn the first session, each participant will be allocated time to build an oil rig model based on anoil and gas platform technology.The rig model to be constructed should range from between 250 mm to 300 mm in length andfrom between 250 mm to 200 mm in breadth with a minimum height of 350 mm.

JUDGING CRITERIAThe oil rig model will be judged according to several criteria as follows.

Based on the price of item given, every team will be evaluated based on the cost spends to

build their oil rig.

Every oil rig model will be tested by stability of putting load. Points will be given to teams

that build an oil rig model that can accommodate higher load capacity with a less cost.

Oil rig model also will be judged by an attractive design and model.

Presentation skills and judgers’ impression will occupy a relative portion in the ultimate

score.

AWARDSResults of the competition will be announced and awards will be distributed during the closingceremony.There will be 3 (three) winners in this competition, which are:

- 1st winner, prize: 2000￥

Rules and Notes for PetroBowl ContestGAME FORMATWe run the knockout system for the contest. It depends on the number of team participating in this

game, so the grouping will not be announced until May 17th.

REGISTRATIONPlease fill out the registration form for PetrolBowl Contest, and send it to

TOURNAMENT OFFICIALS Judges: Each game will have several judges. All judges' decisions concerning compliance to

the rules and awarding of points will be final.

Moderator: Each game will have a moderator. The moderator will read all questions.

Scorekeeper: Each game will have at least one scorekeeper. The scorekeeper(s) will keep the

official score and individual statistics. Games will not be considered final until the

scorekeeper has declared the official score.

Timekeeper: Each game will have one timekeeper. The timekeeper will enforce time limits

and supervise the game clock
